Shao Juns Arsenal in deinen Händen

Fazit:
Assassins Creed mal anders!

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China : 60/100

+Art style and Graphics looking really good
+Lots of gadgets integrated good, makes gameplay little more tolerable
+Finally a Assassin's Creed game that takes place in China!
-Story is a classic Assassin's Creed game story. 50/50 neither good nor bad.
-Musics are not interesting
-Scripted Stealth is the worst part of this game!

honestly out of all of the chronicles assassin's creed games this one is the most interesting since it connections to Ezio auditore and its artstyle is great and I think that shao jun is an interesting character but sometime that gameplay can be a little annoying but if you ever want to play an assassin's creed chronicles game this is what to start with

Most of my criticisms are leveled at the immersion factor of the game.

Pros:
+ Once you get used to the controls, the game is pretty fun
+ Feels more like an assassin game since you get benefits for not brawling your way through a level like an idiot
+ Variety of ways to get through each level (in terms of how you choose to deal with the guards)
+ Artwork and music is good
+ Been waiting for an Assassin's Creed game set in China for a long time now

Cons:
+ The main one is that the characters speak withi a British accent. Last time I checked, this is Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, so why don't they speak with Chinese accents? It's the same thing as in Unity how everyone speaks with an English accent even though it takes place in France. I just don't understand why this is the case with a company that makes as much money as Ubisoft.
+ Similar to the previous criticism, the Chinese names aren't pronounced correctly, which just takes away from the immerson for me. If Capcom could pronounce Samonosuke properly 14 years ago (Onimusha), it seems like Ubisoft could pronounce Gao Feng properly

To summarize, the gameplay is pretty good, and I definitely recommend the game, but the immersion does leave a bit to be desired

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China is another stealth-based platform game that continues to leave a lot to be desired. The positives are around the getaway/escaping missions, some of the level design, and honestly that is it. The negatives? Well the story is bland, we have boring characters, and although the getaway/escaping missions are fun and enjoyable, almost every other mission is bland without depth and rather straightforward.

I don't think I can really recommend this game to anyone but if you are a fan of platform games and Assassin's Creed there is a chance this game could be for you.

Giving this game a negative review seems bad.
Especially since that story is really well written.
The art direction is also really beautiful in this.
But as a game, the actual gameplay isn't gud.
It honestly feels like a chore to get through it.
The controls are unintuitive, they feel broken.
Sometimes your character ignores the inputs.
The game also crashes a lot and that is awful.
It usually forced me to replay huge segments.
And that wasn't fun, It feels quite unpolished.
I actually gave up half way through the story.
Then I just watched the rest of it on youtube.
Like I said: The story is good, I love the story.
I honestly even like the art style of this game.
But sadly: It's barely playable, It feels horrible.
I absolutely hate the controls and the pacing.
And I simply despise the atrocious gameplay.
That's why I am giving this a negative review.
I literally gave up half way through, It's awful.

Gonna tell you right now DONT buy this game at FULL price. Not even worth it for as little time you play it. If anything, wait for the Chronicles Bundle to go on sale. I got it 85% off and it was a lot more reasonable. The game is basically a mobile game. Like I don't understand why the chronicles games aren't on mobile anyway. The story is good. The game play is okay. The gameplay is locked at 60fps and the cinematics are 30fps but the cinematics don't really matter since they're literally pictures. The lore is a great addition to the game. Its a good game just don't buy it at full price.

Actually this game is pretty nice. I played it more when I was younger and didn't remember much about the story! So i decided to get it again years later. I love the chase scenes in here or running scenes, such a vibe/rush all the while still having those assassin qualities in here such as blending in and some bada** stealth animation kills. I won't spoil the story but I do want to know more even after beating it in 8 something hours. Would recommend to you if you like short but go at your own pace game. Also it has a new game plus ;).

The last mysterious Assassin's Creed

There is no way I won't recommend China, it is a great AC experience for those who care about the first two games, despise its flaws. Ezio trained Shao Jun, the most stylish assassin since Altair, performing graceful stunts to kill and then vanishing like a ghost, including a feet-dagger. It is no easy task to go classic, back again as it was in the past, the game is pseudo 3D side-scrolling that looks like Chronicles of Sub-Zero. It isn't less complex than a full third person 3D game and can find its place on best AC games, maybe its just not enough for the setting. What really caught my attention the main character has the best voice acting on any AC to date and it is a waste to see that character wasted away with just a single little game.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2294034896

I really like the artwork cutscenes progressing the story telling, strikes the old Chinese artwork with such style and class. Like it was with Altair, Shao isn't human but a creature, perharps a light, winged feline, it is a extremly well fit character (acting independently from the order yet so loyal to it) for the revenge and cold lore she totally belongs to. Music and art is minimalist for such category but that doesn't mean it is insufficient, it fits right in and you can feel the era as well. Since AC has gone towards the RPG direction, the classic game-style is replicated on these three side-scrolling games (China, India and Russia). Jesper Kid used to be the mind behind Masyaf's and bureal music, Jade Raymond and Patrice Désilets the directors that made AC1 and AC2 so mysterious, and I consider China the last grasp of the old AC's direction on that regard even though it is a compeltely different team.

China's deserves a full remake it will never have, like AC1 deserves a remaster it will never happen.

Train a chimp to program and these will be the cons:

1- If you're using a keyboard, be ready to get your hands ????????????????????.
2- Some sound effects are missing during combat, or just sounds poor or out of sync.
3- Menu navigation is confusing and violates basic UI rules.
4- Very slow response between one action and another.
5- Heavy and clunky controls.
6- Idiotic achievements deludes and distracts your objective.
7- Game is too long and feels like overstaying, due the repetition.

This game was fun enough. I've completed it three times, on each difficulty. It pays in this game to be stealthy and sneaky because the combat system itself is absolute trash, but it isn't its strength anyway.

Tip. On the first playthrough, gather all the things and don't be too bothered about stealth. Then on the second playthrough (new game plus hard), do all the secondary objectives as well, and then get high enough scores to get all the upgrades. Then finally, do all the game again on new game plus. You're now superpowered and can just laugh your way through the game. If you are going to go for bad score runs though, make sure to do it on your last playthough, because every time the game doesn't register your top score, you lose any upgrade on the next run.

This game sure does have its quirks and badness, but overall, it's a good title and I would recommend you play it if you like 2d stealth games.

Don’t buy this game if you’re planning on playing it on an AMD-based notebook processor (see: RYZEN 3500 series CPUs).

Besides the asinine Ubisoft Connect garbage that is forcibly installed (and fails to connect correctly), the game executable will fail to load and actually force a restart (because it locks up everything and even kills the display signal).

It is a sneak-platformer that does some new interesting things such as having foreground and background layers... but I felt that the controls were too clunky and inexact for a fun experience. Assassin’s Creed® Chronicles: China Review

The fight continues…

Some key points that this game offers:

1. Stunning 2.5D gameplay mechanics
2. Multiple planes to navigate on
3. A new and unique arsenal at your disposal

Gameplay & Controls:

The standard layout is advised against. The way the controls are configured for Mouse and Keyboard users is not the greatest. Fortunately, you have the means to change the button loadout to a more comfortable experience. Playing with a controller works just as well if that is your preferred method.

Using a controller on the PC is an available option, albeit with limited support. It does play perfectly well with no notable issues whatsoever. On console, the controller works fantastic, fluid game control and responsiveness throughout the game. Whether it is whilst you are tactfully carrying out your revenge, or hastily pushing forward to outrun rampant flames where you can’t make a single mistake or risk dying, the controls handle perfectly here.

You are Shao Jun, the last remaining Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood. Trained by the legendary Master Assassin, Ezio Auditore himself, you return to your homeland, trained and ready for vengeance! The Tigers took everything from you; and now you will take everything from them…, including their lives!

Your journey will take you through some of the most iconic locations throughout China. The game offers freedom of movement. As with titles from the original story, the player can take the stealth route or go in sword swinging. There are a variety of methods to go about completing your missions.

Hide, sneak, and tactfully manoeuvre through enemy patrols. Strike from the shadows using your assassin skills, killing an enemy instantly. Level design is pretty decent, you get to climb up or down, to reach higher platforms or lower areas. Hang from the side of a building and make your way towards your goal. A unique mechanic that further enhances the gameplay is the use of multiple planes. Within the 2D environment, move forward or backwards to reach your destination. The use of this mechanic makes the gameplay more exciting and quite unique.

Graphics:

Quite beautiful to be frank. The visuals of the game might not look too grand however, what the developers did here is truly gorgeous. Making use of 16th-century Traditional Chinese brush strokes will leave you feeling like you are in a painting that has come to life!

The contemporary and impressionistic styles they made use of here truly sets the atmosphere for the game. The visuals truly add to the era that the game plays off in, bringing every locale to life with its beautiful artistic creations.

The game lacks any cinematic scenes, and instead of using the standard cut scenes we would normally have in games we are left with still drawn images accompanied by voice over work. In a way, these images fit perfectly well with the game, a more cinematic experience would have given more life and personality to the characters, something that the game lacks, unfortunately.

Sounds:

There are no major dialogues in the game, albeit for the one here and there where you would converse with your targets. The voice-over work is done pretty decently, however, most of the time these dialogues fail to captivate you. They simply aren’t as entertaining as they could be.

Background music exists throughout each level that adds to the experience. Being a stealth-based game, noise levels play a role here. Make too much noise and you will alert the guards, or make noise to your advantage…

Replayability:

The game offers multiple difficulties for you to play on. Complete the game once and unlock the higher difficulty. The game also has a reward system that rewards you for completing each sequence in a level.

Getting through a sequence without killing anyone and without altering the guards rewards you with the highest rating and points. Completing the level whilst earning the required amount of points unlocks a permanent upgrade for your character.
As you play through the game unlocking upgrades and improving your character you can replay previous levels to obtain missed collectables with an upgraded arsenal at your disposal.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

Assassin’s Creed® Chronicles: China isn’t the Assassin’s Creed game we are accustomed to. It was never meant to be. The developers went with a completely different dynamic and brought us something totally different whilst still offering the Assassin’s Creed experience.

The multi-layered environments is a real winner here. It made the levels a lot more fun and entertaining. The combat isn’t really exceptional, but it delivered some fluid action nonetheless; Shao Jun has her own moves accompanying her unique arsenal. The hidden shoe blade made for some entertaining assassinations for sure, along with that rope dart.
All things considered, this was a fun experience with creative level designs and beautiful visuals. The lack of a more detailed story line did dampen the gameplay, however. One of the best things for me in games is the story line, it is one of the key defining aspects in a game. The lack of a complex and driven back story kind of brought the overall joy of the game down for me.

Even though you have different methods to go about your missions; Ranging from stealth, open combat, or by carefully taking enemies out one at a time or bypassing them entirely. There is freedom of choice here, however, it does get repetitive and feel scripted after a while. This can be attributed to the 2.5D environment, Afterall there is only so much that such an environment can offer.

When it comes down to the numbers, Assassin’s Creed® Chronicles: China delivers fantastic gameplay, in a beautiful setting that will entertain you for sure.

its a short game obviously but its still pretty fun nevertheless. definitely recommend if you're looking for a few hours to play alone.

P.S. while you're at it if you're a big AC fan you can get an ezio costume for like 20 Uplay coins.

I know that many people do not really count this game (well, this game and its two brethren) as actual assassins creed games. But I do! And I must say, I really enjoyed it! Yes it was a bit different from other AC games and it was a lot shorter, but that was actually nice. Usually choosing and playing any other assassins creed game is quite a commitment, because you're going to spend a lot of time with the same game. So its nice to have a game that is not as massive.
So please, don't be scared of by the 2D graphics and give it a go!

This game’s controls are atrocious. The default control layout apparently expects you to have three arms. A decent custom one is hard to figure out since the game doesn’t allow you to rebind like half of your keyboard or any additional mouse buttons to begin with. And even then, the combination of actions assigned to each key still make no sense. It took me slightly less than an hour to figure out some decent controls, but the game still only was barely playable afterwards.

Besides all of that mess, the game is far from anything extraordinary. The background art and the music are nice, but the gameplay is nothing exciting and the story only varies in different tastes of cheesiness. It’s also rather short, somewhere between five and ten hours depending on the player.

So, in conclusion, you should only pick this game up if you buy it in sale, plan on playing it with a controller and really need to play every single game of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Pretty game
Smooth controls
Overall fun gameplay
Not much content, there is new game + though, which doesn't particularly interest me.

I think China could be explored as a whole AC game - would love to see that.

My biggest nitpick
Voice acting is both confusing and frustrating. The jarring contrast between the 1) guards in-game speaking Chinese, and 2) the narration in English, with American-English accent ... what?

Love the art and concept that is going on in this game..The game is much more easier to play using the controller rather than keyboard.Nevertheless worth the money, loved the game and now i'm addicted to it!.

Been a while since I played a Good 2.5D game that is actually fun and Exciting to play. The Problems with 2.5D games are that their Controls feel very weird but there is always 2nd approach.

I had really good time playing this part and going to Start the second one that will happen in India.

9.5 out of 10 and Highly Recommended.

Assassin's creed China is 1 of 3 parts of a story where a box has been stolen from the brotherhood of assassins and it must be retrieved. China, India and Russia are all built on the same 3 layered, 2.5D engine. This is the first time I've played games like these. Each game keeps the same formula. Yet, each assassin of the chronicles series plays surprisingly different in relation to combat and stealth. India's assassin is perfectly balanced, while China's assassin can dash between multiple hiding places, using less combat. Russia's assassin utilizes gunplay and extensive hand to hand combat with less stealth. Not to mention the sniping segments that just compliment Russia's theme. Dashing around a corner half a second before an enemy turns around never gets old. The controls make it easy. Graphics are a side scrolling 3D. My only complaint is that the Indian and Chinese assassins needed to sound as authentic to their heritage as the Russian assassin.

Probably one of the best stealth games I have played. The graphics and art are unique in this genre and I would definitely recommend this. I am a bit sad that they made this into a short stealth game do. Would of loved a full Assassin's Creed game on this. What really bugs me is that there is no settings tab. I can't change anything like sound or even graphics quality. Overall a very good game with an amazing art.

Pros:
- Awesome looking art.
- Good story line.
- Intuitive controls.
- Various ways to play.

Cons:
- Can be hard for new players.
- Some things are hard to do without a bit of practice.
- No settings option (can't change the graphics quality, the sound or anything)

Some problems I found out when playing the game:
- Sometimes jumping from wall to wall does work (or I have to drop on the side for it to work).
- The visibility of some things are very poor.
