Though Arkham Origin is not counted into the trilogy and sometimes neglected by players, it actually has breakthrough in narrative compared to the last title. Arkham Origin goes much deeper into psychology of characters, namely, the wild card Joker and the determined Batman, compared to Arkham City. You can see the characters do not just act in certain ways without reasons. There are beliefs there, leading to their behaviors. Those lines and descriptions for insights of characters are pretty powerful and I am deeply impressed.
The story is impressive as well. The young Batman is bountied by the most powerful criminal mind at that time. Eight notorious assassins are sent to kill Batman while he tries to end it by capturing the criminal mind and all the assassins. But soon he discovered there is a bigger scheme behind waiting for him. It is very much like a novel. I mean, you don’t see many plots and twists cause most game stories tend to be straightforward, but here, the script can literally be used to shot a movie.
Pros and cons:
+ High congruence. This franchise is one of the best franchise I every played in terms of congruence. The game is neat, in order and enjoyable to play. There are no surprises in gameplay, meaning you will never be asked to do anything you don’t know what to do. Also, every step for each “level” is carefully designed. You will feel very natural doing them.
+ Good story and impressive insights of characters.
+ Decent graphics with great optimization.
+ Some details. I really enjoy seeing those scratches in the surface of the metal Batman armor.
+ Combat is interesting. For different assassins and bosses the fights are all different. I think it is interesting.
- Arkham Origin is an open world game and the open world part is such a let down. The open world is static. Nothing happens if you are not around. And there is no impressive scenery or anything interesting, just a bunch of thugs for you to beat.
- Scenes, and the whole world in Origin are pretty dark. It is the traditional color tone of the franchise. Still, it is depressing.
- Repetition. You do lots of things that are similar. It is a common issue of the franchise, but when the open world gets involved, it is worse. Luckily, even including the open world the game is not extremely long (does not mean it is not long) so it should be fine.
I really like in Cold, Cold Heart where Batman can change into different bat suit with different functionality. This is so cool and I am expecting more. Can’t wait to play Arkham Knight.

I played this series in almost the worst order possible. 3,2,1,4.
- For a sneaky detective we sure can sneakily kick some butt.
- Stealth attacks chip away at those enemy gangs before we enter full com-Bat.
ikr I went there.
- Long potential combos in combat which employs great counter attacks.
- Plenty of sleuthing and puzzle solving.
- Bat tools and gadgets.
- Getting those basic suit upgrades feels like we've been cheated.
- Some great fights:
Deadstroke fight is tight
- I still need the seasons pass for this one, so zero DLC played for me so far.

Batman Arkham Origins is a VERY GOOD game. The problem is that it isn’t as ground breaking like Asylum, City or Knight. Expectations were high and It also didn't help either that a lot of the game is a rehash of Arkham City. Origins introduces a much younger and inexperienced Batman and features prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Pros
-The story has great moments and makes good use of characters.
-Character development is so well done in this game; you can actually feel Bruce Wayne's pain and anger. Interacting with Alfred from time to time also shows the tension of their parent-child relationship throughout the game and how it matures by the end.
-The combat needs no introduction. Free-flow combat once again makes its return. It’s fun, its smooth and overall satisfying.
-Boss fights are badass, epic and designed really well. Might as well have the best boss fights in the series.
-As with all the Arkham games thus far, the cutscenes are very good and cinematic.
-Side missions and activities can be a good distraction from the story missions.
-One of my favorite additions was the detective mode, enabling you to reconstruct crime scenes with shimmering 3D holograms through them to hunt for clues. There’s a lot more crime solving elements now.
-I was a little nervous about Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill being replaced but the voice acting by Roger Craig Smith as a younger Bruce Wayne/Batman and Troy Baker as Joker is impressive.
-Performance rating after every successful enemy encounter like Devil May Cry series.
-Graphically Arkham Origins is a good-looking game with high production values. The textures are sharp, the lighting is good. Origins is visually superior to the previous two, but there is no noticeable improvement over Arkham City. Anti-aliasing is better than most games that came before it. Most DirectX 11 features are present and enhance the visuals and gameplay in every way possible in Unreal Engine 3.
Cons
-Misleading title. One of my biggest complaints about this game is the fact that this is neither an Origin story nor does it have anything to do with Arkham. If you're a fan, you'll get a sense that they're trying to tease some of the stuff you overhear in “Arkham Asylum” but never that was really was the focus of the storyline.
-One of the most boring open world; would have received much better reception had they made the boundaries much tighter like its predecessors. Although its “functional” moving from point A to B from Old Gotham City doesn’t feel fun. The more you play the less fun it gets.
-It was a bit disappointed to see that most locations were the same that we have already visited in Arkham City. I understand that this part of the prequel), but this does not justify the repetition of same locations.
-Batman has tons of gadgets and a lot of them doesn’t make any sense in this game and really has no purpose to the plot. Often times you’ll be using them to just find and unlock hidden collectibles.
-Lacks attention to detail and polish compared to other Batman games developed by Rocksteady.
-Most enemy encounters felt very repetitive and boring.
-Despite several patches there are still few bugs and glitches here and there. At one point I had to restart the whole game from the beginning as I got stuck in an endless freefall bug that prevented me from progressing the game. Worse it even corrupted and broke my save files.
-WB Games decided to shut down multiplayer mode in late 2016 on PC however it still works on consoles. It’s impossible to get 100% Steam achievements.
Should You Buy Batman Arkham Origins??
If you’ve read so far absolutely give this game a try. Arkham Origins doesn't offer anything new compared to its predecessors, but it's very enjoyable nonetheless. Concerning the story itself, it is a good companion to Asylum and City. As for just about everything else, it did not reach the high standard set by its predecessors. It is still worth your time. Playing Arkham Games in release order is highly recommended. Get it on a sale and don't forget to pick Cold cold Heart expansion; an excellent addition with new storyline.
My Rating; 8/10 – A Worthy Successor
Combat feels more refreshing and redefined as it should be. Controlls are more tight and responsive to hit mechanics. Love new takedowns and gadgets. Most amazing stuff was Power shock gloves whichs is abizmal overpowered. You can break a wall with them. With new gadgets there was new detective mini game wich is super cool. You examinating crime scene with you detective vision and analysing what happend in that place. Really really well done. You feel like detective in Batman role. This is by far the best done system in all four arkham games.
Story takes new roads while progressing to the end it felt to me more interesting. New enemies and bosses made it more fun to find out whats behind the black mask. This game takes yet another step to reshape boss battles. They are more interesting and innovative. Who can forget best fights against Deathstroke, Copperhead, Firefly and Mr.Freeze. The whole action takes in snowy winter night town. Liked the location so much cause it speaked to me.
Last words will be from me: unpopular take but I personally think this game is the best in Arkham series. I hope these developers will have another shot at making another Batman game in the future. 9/10

Too Long; Didn't Read: Batman: Arkham Origins is a prequel to Arkham Asylum, developed not by Rocksteady Studios, but by WB Games Montreal, and it really shows.
WB has taken the enjoyable core of Arkham City, but has not added much to the experience. And what they have added or changed, is either unnecessary or worse than what we had before.
Combined with an awful lot of lore inconsistencies, poor writing and too much hand-holding, you have a Batman game that feels more like a fan mod than an official product.
Batman: Arkham Origins is only worth buying if you like the combat and stealth sections of previous games, as the lazy plot and presentation will leave fans of the story disappointed.
The Gameplay
Arkham Origins combat and stealth sections are ripped straight from Arkham City. The combat is still enjoyable, getting combos and flying around the arena like an extremely violent ballerina is fun, but Origins has changed the formula for the worse.
The choice of upgrading a move or weapon each level has now been turned into a skill tree. This means if you want to unlock a special takedown, increase batarang damage or disarm thugs with the grapnel gun, you’ll first have to dump points into an upgrade you don’t want or don’t need, like improved armour or mine disarm, skills you can live without.
This small change really ruins the experience, as levelling up goes from an exciting chance to use a new brutal move in combat, to groaning as you put another point into ballistic weave as you try to reach the moves you want.
The two new enemies added to the combat don’t really change much either. The martial artist requires two right clicks to counter, as opposed to one. And the brutes, which are similar to the Bramovici Twins from Arkham City, all require a simple stun before you can beat them down.
The major threat of the game, the 8 assassins hired to kill Batman are almost all boss fights. These boss fights can be intense, with stellar music to add to the excitement, and movie-like camera angles. But these play out more like quick time events, with every few seconds you losing control of Batman and just waiting for when you’re asked to counter an attack.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2218964367
Stealth is largely unchanged, with the exception of the Bat Claw, a sort-of replacement for the zip-line launcher. Its major difference is that it can perform inverted takedowns on unsuspecting enemies, without you needing to be at the gargoyle above them. This removes the thrill of the inverted takedown in my opinion, especially since it has unlimited uses and has no risks involved.
Exploring Gotham is also a bore. The streets are lifeless with only random criminals to bully. Buildings all look the same and despite having a large section of Gotham to explore, only specific locations, usually ones tied in with the story, are used.
The batwing is used for fast travel, but the Riddler has taken down the communication towers, stopping it from flying to key areas. I would feel inspired to unlock them, if it weren’t for the fact that gliding to a location doesn’t take too long, and the fact that you can lose towers over time, requiring another trip to unlock them.
The Story & Presentation
This story takes place early in Batman’s career, before he met the joker, and right before the opening of Arkham Asylum. The problem is that the story does not really seem to have an idea of what it wants to accomplish.
Despite the name, we do not see the opening of Arkham, only the fall of another prison, Blackgate. And the main villain, who is setup as Black Mask, is quickly dropped for fan service introducing a mixture of obscure foes from Batman history, and many we have seen before in other Arkham titles.
This is also yet another Arkham game where the main villain is actually revealed to be a familiar face, a cliché that really gets old at this point. And while the game taking place just before Christmas is an interesting theme for a Batman game, it is a shame it seems to have no purpose or greater meaning.
The writing is pretty poor. Batman is written like an overly aggressive jerk who cannot control his anger, as opposed to the calm and confident hero he is in other titles. The Joker is portrayed as a terrorist only interested in money, Bane is now a super genius with his own personal army, etc. Characters are not the same, and this is not due to it taking place earlier, they try very hard to make references to the previous games, so this just seems to be a misunderstanding of the characters.
The game itself looks decent, but without any flair or character. Every single building looks the exact same, grey brick, with tinted windows, and snowy roof tops. The previous games made the different areas distinct, using red bricks for the steel mill, grey for residential, white for the courthouse, etc.
Arkham Origins is also lazy with characters and lore continuity. Batman’s suit looks like an improved version of his current suit, which is strange since this predates his Arkham Asylum costume. His gadgets are all their improved versions, with the hack tool using holograms, an upgrade only introduced in Arkham City. His gauntlets also use holograms, a feature not seen till Arkham Knight.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2218962319
And while cutscenes are high quality, the game sometimes gives up on looking sharp. Certain areas like the sewers, start to break down and become blurry, even on maximum graphics.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2218962728
Graphics & Soundtrack
Graphically the game does not look to bad, but is a little dated even for 2013. The characters and world don’t look to bad, but as previously mentioned all lack personality, charm, or even a dash of colour.
The soundtrack however is brilliant, the intro music is very good at psyching up the player, and the many boss themes really hammer home the excitement. Even gliding around Gotham is great, the music really adds to the atmosphere, especially thanks to the Christmas bells ringing in the background.
Performance & Bugs
The game performs rather well, with very few frame drops. But bugs are rather plentiful, from the occasional crash, to enemies periodically clipping through walls to escape a beatdown. Indoor puzzles such as the Police Headquarters or the pumping station in the sewers, also break and require multipole reloads.
Final Score & Comments
I would give Batman: Arkham Origins a 4/10. The only enjoyable parts are the combat and stealth sections taken from far better, previous games. All new additions both to the story and gameplay either annoy or ruin the experience. Gotham City has never looked so bland, and despite an amazing soundtrack, the boss battles feel more like interactable cutscenes more than fights.
This game feels more like an attempt to make some money off the Arkham brand, as opposed to its own self-contained adventure in the Batman Story.

Alfred Pennyworth : Master Bruce. Stop. Master Bruce. BRUCE!
Bruce Wayne : What are you...
Alfred Pennyworth : I will not in good conscience allow you to go. You are outmatched by these assassins and...
Bruce Wayne : I'm what?
Alfred Pennyworth : ...you're not some hardened vigilante. You're a young man with a trust fund and too much anger. You are in over your head and I don't want this to be your end.
Bruce Wayne : Alfred, who do you see when you look at me? The boy whose shoes you used to tie every morning, the teenager you drove to his first date? While you are here every night, I am out there... the ONLY THING between the innocent and the predatory...
Alfred Pennyworth : You may be, but...
Bruce Wayne : No, not 'may be'. I am. When the mugger or the thief stop to think twice, that is fear. That is what I am. That is why they hired assassins - because I am the reason the criminals breathe easier when the sun rises. So no, Alfred, I am NOT in over my head. Tonight will not be my end. But it will be theirs.

Batman games do not have much definition to say and many are familiar with this style of game, so I will only explain the story of the game to know what this version is like.
Before you read, let me warn you that there is a danger of spoilers and I have spoiled some parts, but there may be more !!!!
In this version, Batman is older than the previous versions and our main enemy is basically a black mask and not a joker. The beginning of the game in a main mission, the Dead Stroke character that many of you know will attack you and defeat this boss The fight is very hard and it is one of the best boss fights in this version.
There is a joker, but in the role of a black mask, which I will explain below. ((Another feature that this game has is the ability to travel fast to the bat cave.)) Batman in a mission that is a little close to the end of the game is faced with a black mask, but we encounter a strange scene. (Of course, I do not remember exactly) and the Joker wears his clothes and calls himself a black mask.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1922451878
In this version, Batman, like the decisions you saw everywhere, wants to kill the Joker and get rid of him. When he attacks the building where the Joker is, the Joker gathers Batman's enemy characters and plots to destroy Batman. In these characters, the bane is the main character of boss fight, and
when we get involved with the Joker, we throw him out of the window and they talk in the air, and Batman decided to kill the Joker, but he changed his mind and handed him over to the police.

On PS3 this game was disappointing, but I liked it....but it was disappointing.
I watched MiKeYRog (check him on YouTube) play some and decided to give it a go.
On PC, maxed out with the DirectX options on, this game is brilliant, and I've decided that's what hurt the Ps3 version for me. The graphics have aged very well, especially if you like playing with the darkness kind of low. Either way, the bland empty feeling of the PS3 version is replaced with a hostile winter night where it would make no sense to see people out and about anyways.
Without the distraction of low set graphics, the story and pacing shine, and the boss battles are challenging and satisfying. I play on the hardest difficulty. It's the only way to go. It's worth the sale price just to play to and meet the Deathstroke fight--which might be my favorite boss fight ever.
Can't believe what these devs did with so little time--look into it.
Overall this game is an underrated masterpiece that has aged very well and is the best of the Arkham Games, IMO.
It's the first game I've played, in a long time, where I just enjoyed playing through the story.
Play with the graphics maxed. play with the brightness low. don't sweat grinding for skins, bc the main kit is dope.

I also recommend making the changes suggested in the PC Gaming Wiki website for this game, as it allows changing FOV and removing intro videos so you get quickly to the start menu.
Now, talking about the game itself, it's actually a lot better than I expected. Sure, it's not as good as the other entries, but the story is interesting enough, the gameplay is the one we've expected to see in Batman games with some improvements, and the bosses are the best!

Prequel to the trilogy and even tho the weakest of the bunch. This title still is a treat to play.
Dont be afraid to get this title. It doesnt do annything new, but it still plays fantastic.
Some questionable choises where made. But its a solid title.
A must for fans for both batman and the genre of game.
Get it and become the batman.
Enjoy the game.

in my own opinion...
This is (believe it or not) my absolute favorite of the Arkham games. Somehow the lack of a true open world and limited scope brings more attention to the weaknesses of the other games that is usually a combination of too many things done well but not one thing done truly perfect. To me this has always been the standout Arkham game in terms of fighting system, pure style (the costume choices are brilliant), and the toned down silliness of the other three games. I may be alone in this but I suggest a proper and full playthrough of Origins before throwing shade.

The game undoubtedly has a lot of weaknesses. The premise is interesting (one night to kill the Bat) but the story is like molded Swiss cheese with too many (plot)holes. The fights feel off and are not as fluid as in previous Arkham games. (In my head, I excused it as Batman being inexperienced in combat.) Then there's the map which is small and boring to move around in. It gets exhausting dealing with endless armed thugs on every rooftop. (Tip: For those playing 'I am the Night' mode, do not underestimate the snipers, especially in the Diamond District. Just restart, don't risk it!)
All of these flaws are forgivable. What isn't acceptable is that you can no longer play Origins multiplayer. Warner Brothers shut down the servers in 2016. There are about 6 MP achievements that you can no longer get which means you cannot 100% the game. This is a shame because Origins MP was pretty fun. I cannot recommend buying Origins except on sale for this reason.
All things considered, I still think Origins is worth playing for the boss fights. Going toe to toe with Deathstroke, countering Shiva blow for blow, dodging Bane's charges in the nick of time, fighting Monster Bane in a predator encounter. Every boss fight was worth the price. I'd love to see the Arkham games remastered someday like the Halo Master Chief collection. If that happens, I hope Rocksteady makes a playlist called 'Origins Boss Fights'.
Final thoughts: While the main campaign is meh, the DLC Cold, Cold Heart steals the show in terms of story. It is a Xmas must play DLC for Arkham fans. Also, Origins is the not the 'worst Arkham game'. That honor goes to Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate! Yes it counts as an Arkham game! If it doesn't, well , what makes for an Arkham game anyway?

-A Batman game with snow
-A Batman game
-Good boss fights
-Voice actors doing a decent job trying to replace Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy
Cons:
-Uninspired map
-Somehow a graphical downgrade from City
-Feels like an Arkham City DLC
Overall it's a decent game, it just doesn't hold up to the Rocksteady trilogy 7.5/10
