Today at the Xbox Games Showcase, we unveiled the launch trailer for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, our reactive turn-based RPG coming to Xbox, PS5, and PC next year.

The city of Lumière is shrouded in a grim ritual. Once a year, the Paintress marks an age on her monolith, sealing the fate of those who reach it. Soon, she will paint 33, condemning all of that age to death. With only one year left to live, the members of Expedition 33 set out to destroy the Paintress and end this cycle forever.
Meet some of the Expeditioners.
Gustave
You’ll play as Gustave, a diligent engineer who hopes to change the future for his apprentices and all of the children of Lumière. You will lead the Expeditioners through diverse and breathtaking realms, and forge deep bonds with your companions along the way. Unravel their stories, and piece together the mystery of the Paintress’ power.
MAELLE
Maelle is one of your early companions and Gustave’s foster sister. As an orphan from infancy, she finds it difficult to trust others and has never felt at home in the city of Lumière. The expedition is a way for her to escape the confines of the city, and though she does not care much about the Paintress, her longing to be free is powerful motivation.
We’ll be revealing more characters over the next few months. We can’t wait to share them and their stories with you all!

We wanted to create something that blends the strategic depth of turn-based combat with the thrill of real-time actions - which resulted in our unique reactive turn-based system. Master the defense systems—dodge, parry, and counterattack in real-time—to turn the tide of battle in your favour.
