  • Epischer Soundtrack in Albumlänge

No idea where I got this game from, I just found it in my steam library one day. But I'm very glad I did - it's a solid classic point'n'click adventure game. Well written and fun. A few bugs here and there, but nothing that kept me from finishing it.

Firstly I have to mention, this game is a sequal to the Chains of Satinav title, it perfectly enjoyable without playing that, but I havily recommend to play that as well before.

Now, this game is a big improvement over the Chains of Satinav title in almost every way, but the most significant is the voice acting.
Also it has a much more intriguing story than it's predecessor(although that wasn't bad either). There are two protagonist now, both of them have really interesthing side characters around them.
Howewer the game is still a Daedalic title with all of it's faults, so do consider this before you buy in.

And it's have a wonderful soundtrack.:)

I rfully recommend this!

The Dark Eye: Chains Of Satinav,

Memoria (or The Dark Eye: Memoria) is the second point & click adventure game in the Dark Eye Universe and a direct sequel to The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav. (If you'd like to know all the games in the The Dark Eye Universe, then feel free to check my review of Chains of Satinav, for a list of the games at the bottom - https://steamcommunity.com/id/brake_id/recommended/203830/)

The story in Memoria starts where it ended in The Chains of Satinav (sort of), as Geron heads on a journey of restoring his beloved Nuri. However, the previous story is pushed back till the end, while Memoria offers an interesting twist and introducing a new story, that goes back 450 years ago. A story, that involves a princess named Sadja, a magical staff, a demonic army, ancient spirits, relatively easy and enjoyable puzzles and a whole new set of abilities and a new playable character.

For the true story and adventure lovers, Memoria continues to deliver nothing but greatness, wrapped in a well-written and gorgeous hand-drawn world and characters, beautiful cinematics and music, that makes the world of Aventuria come to life before the adventurer's eyes.

I can not possibly say more about this game, without repeating my words from Chains of Satinav, but Memoria is a proof, that a great story is timeless and that a true story teller can make one as believable and as amazing (regardless of whether it really happened or not) - all of that is true for the immerse fantasy world of Aventuria, where the journey for Geron continues. And I can assure you, that if you are seeking all of the above (and even more), then you will definitely have a great time with this masterpiece.

About the cons in Memoria:

- the voice acting is not as good, compared to how amazing everything else is; however, I personally wasn't really affected by that
- crashes, freezes and bugs.

The game crashes right at the beginning of the game, as the Memoria intro appears. That crash may (or may not) be fixed by going to Steam Library > Memoria > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.

If you play the game for a long period of time it may start freezing or even crashing. Those freezes and crashes may happen, even if you have played the game only for a bit.

If the game crashes at intro or in general and verifying integrity of game files does not fix that (or any other problem you might encounter), then your best bet is to contact Daedalic support, in order to find the best solution for your particular problem. Otherwise you might get burned out, while trying to fix the numerous problems yourself.
Memoria, Satinav sees and knows evrything... almost
Memoria continues where Satinavs Chains finished. Geron started to find a way to turn Nuri back from a raven into a fairy.
Pros:

• Pretty good story
  • Code Beside Gerons point of view, the story is been expirienced also from Sadja.
Verdict:
Decent Point and Clicking adventure, the usual quality from Daedalic

I'm generally not a fan of point&clickers but I sure do enjoy a good story and oooh boy does this one exceed expectations; it had great pacing, was properly unpredictable and surprisingly enough had some tense moments (which is really not something I would expect from a point&clicker). There might be a bit too many names in the story to keep track of but you have a nice summary in the hint screen (which really helped me when I completely forgot whose name the character was screaming when searching for them in a forest).

Gameplay-wise there are only two points to bring up and those are:
1)The item and environment interaction puzzles that point&clickers are known for and...
2)The logical puzzles that rely on skills other than keeping track of which items you havent combined yet

For the first category, I can say right away that I have not encountered a single puzzle that I found unreasonable, albeit some more complex solutiuons (such as the one where you hunted the rabbit which admittedly took me a while) needed some fucking about to figure out what the character is actually trying to accomplish. All in all, I did not have to consult any guides in my playthrough meaning that the least I can say is it's done professionally.

As for the logical puzzles, some were a tiny bit tedious. There were specifically two that I just gave up on. With the least spoilers I can utter, it's the one with the literal skip button which speaks for itself (which I skipped simply because there's nothing to actually figure out in this kind of puzzle), and the one in one of the floaty tower rooms for which I simply looked up a guide because more than half the tedium would be backtracking so you could find a pattern. Even then, what drove me up the wall were the frequent room transitions and not the actual puzzle

All in all, the last time I enjoyed a story as much as this one was when I played another Daedalic title. These guys know what theyre doing. It's good. Get it.

This is one of those games that I think of fondly, even years after playing it... twice. I knew nothing of the other game that came before it, and it was still very enjoyable. I enjoy a good point & click game with a good story and unique gimmick. Worth it. I wish there was more with Sadja.

I cannot get this game to run well on my modern windows 10 system, it hitches very badly whenever I move around. I tried windows 7 compat mode, minimal settings, and setting CPU affinity but nothing really helped. Seems like some compatibility problem with newer hardware. I see other mentions on the discussion boards but no fix. Might be a fine game, but not recommended in 2020

After the game's first part (Chains of Satinav), I had some hopes, that one greatly exceeded my expectations with a charming story and in the way the puzzles were entwined with the plot, the tension and the characters in a haunting magical world - it was actually quite a treat.

This one, though? Blah. Blah. Blah. Walk. Walk. Walk. Click this, then that. Blah. More blah. More walk.

At its heart, this game is a lecture in bad writing. Exactly the kind of bad writing (and railroading...) that infested and swallowed the German pen & paper roleplaying game it is based on. More backstory than story. Exposition galore, reams of flashback, purple prose and a pronounced tendency to tell, not show. Blah blah blah served in smug, self-indulgent voices.
    But that's not all.

Stilted, overwrought dialogue is interspersed with similarly stilted and drawn out walking animation, an endlessly meandering, utterly pointless plot centered around gimmicky magic that conveys as little wonder as the story does. Puzzles dry as tinder serve only to get on with it and to promote walkthroughs. Each character is more bland and lifeless than the last, grating and overstaying their welcome. I would strongly suggest to ignore reviews heaping praise upon this ... thing,

Most of the backgrounds are very nicely done, rich in the magic that is lacking elsewhere. A slideshow of pictures accompanied by the soundtrack would likely be more fun than this game.

There are rich themes to explore, like who you are now, who you were then, and the storyline connecting those two individuals to form a singular person. There are themes of historical veracity, where history is written by ancestors, rewritten by successors, and the pen remains--as always--mightier than the sword. There are themes of rulership and subjugation, where the tables seemingly turn as soon as they’re settled. There are themes of entrapment, whether trapped as a warrior in a princess’s body, or trapped into a set of actions dictated by your unhealthy ambition, or trapped by a boyfriend that simply wants everything to go back to the way it was.

And so, the tale begins in a darkened wood, on a moonlit path, in the shoes of a medieval man named Geron carrying nothing but his girlfriend’s old necklace and a knife. Chimney smoke lifts from homes in a distant, hate-filled burg, while lightning bugs dance above tufts of swaying grass. It's an unassuming intro to a winding story rife with hard truisms and red herrings alike. Memoria is a game I won’t soon forget.

    Well done Daedalic!

I have found the game randomly. Honestly I did not expect this game
will be so interesting and emotional. I am(or was) not a big fan of point & click games
however due to the other aspects of Memoria I played through the story.
The storyline, the characters, the art and music made the game more captivating for me.

I would advise to play Chains of Satinav game first though to
understand entirely the story and the background of the main characters.

Do I recommend The Dark Eye Memoria? Definitely.

I really enjoy Daedalic Entertainment’s point-and-click games and was surprised that they were able to make a game that is totally different from their other great point-and-click games (Edna & Harvey, Deponia, The Whispered World).

The Dark Eye: Memoria has a more mature theme and takes place in the fantasy world Aventuria (world of the pen & paper game The Dark Eye). It doesn't have over the top characters, funny dialogues or wacky puzzles.

It’ a great sequel to The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav. I recommend playing that first.

The hand-drawn art style is really beautiful to look at. The story is great and the characters are all very likable. The game has a great atmosphere with good voice acting and nice soundtrack.

I love point and click games, I even think this series has some clever ideas to play around with...however there is *zero* payoff in this game. The 'ending' is such a cheap trick and something that has been mentioned *REPEATEDLY* throughout the entirety of the game turns out to be completely useless.

Sadja is insufferable, such a lost opportunity to create a charismatic person. All the characters are intolerable in the series, save for the Staff, Bryda, the 'Shadow Helper', and the old man that gives you the riddle.

    SPOILERS
The Stone/Scarab riddle was such a low trick. I thought for certain the answer would lend itself to an overarching philosophy to the story that would serve a poignant purpose. Instead, Sadja was just a plaything for a prince that had no reason to remember her after throwing her out. She drew her tattoo on herself with ink (yet it never washed off), and she can't read, so the inscription above the tomb had no actual purpose.

Bryda was smart and likable, I thought for certain she'd Doctor Who herself back in time, thus re-writing Sadja's failure with the final demon. Sadja accomplished NOTHING. She got into Draconia (but people were already there), and she killed everyone, except some demons.

Geron is not a charismatic, but his personality is helped by virtue of how awful Nuri is in both games.

The series is such a waste.

The puzzles have no logic. The elemental assignment riddles are so vague that multiple elements could be a satisfactory answer. The 'send vision' ability is a major issue because again, the logic is vague.
All around a frustrating and disappointing journey with some lovely imagery.

Honestly I expected more from Memoria. Its story is confusing most of the times, and the ending was a bit of a mess. I found locations backgrounds less detailed than its predecessor, Chains of Satinav. Also the game is shorter than Chains. Nonetheless this is a good adventure game, an interesting sequel for all those that played the first chapter and want to know more of the lore and the characters. Not incredible or better as many others say, a 6/10 for me.

This game is a sequel to Dark Eyes: Chains of Satinav. I would recommend you play that game before getting into this one, in order to be able to better appreciate the story line of Memoria. It is possible to play the latter without having played the former, but you will be missing on the nuances and subtleties of the story.

From my point of view, Memoria is an even better game than Chains of Satinav. Why? Because the story is really engrossing and well though out. It is also more mature, and will keep you guessing until the last cutscene. While Chains of Satinav was too linear for my taste, as I wrote in my review of that game, the double line story of Memoria is making you follow a story on two historical levels at 450 years of distance. It could have gone wrong easily if the conceptors of the game had not been creative enough or sloppy in their story telling. Quite the contrary, they pulled it off masterfully, and succeeded in making sure you would not be able to prematurely guess the ending of the story. (
- Actually, once you've been through the possible endings, you might still doubt the conclusion, as you may discover to your own dismay...
) This last point might explain why some people disliked the game, as they undoubtedly prefer black and white conclusions. But life itself is not always such, isn't it?

What I just wrote does not mean that the story telling is not linear. It is still linear, with some people in one time line trying to guess what happened 450 years earlier in another time line. In a way, it suffers from the same limitations than Chains of Satinav, with a limited set of possible divergence in the choices you make while following the story, meaning that these choice will have little to no impact on the final outcome of the story (with one exception located in the first minutes of the game that may end the game prematurely for you). But the story you are following is engrossing enough that you will not be aware of it, until you replay the game again and start noticing it. Because of that, the replay value is limited.

For the other aspects of the scenario, Memoria talks of magic and sees acts of magic, much more so than Chain of Satinav. In that sense, gameplay is even more interesting in Memoria, and appeals much more to your sense of imagination. Occasionally, some combinations of items will seem strange or counter-intuitive (meaning you will be groping for some time in trying to get to some places, or produce a result that you need in order to advance the story) and you probably will feel some frustration at these times. Fortunately, it happens only in a few locations and I do not believe these moments to be deals breakers as the rest of the story makes up for it abundantly.

Finally, the art work is great, voice acting is absolutely superb, good sound effects help in the immersion into the game story. On that side, Daedalic Entertainment always deliver good quality production in its games. This is the third game from them I have been playing, and this quality is a constant through all of them. I believe the story of Memoria, and the way it is presented, justify its acquisition, specially if you can find it for sale.

This very much like a magical version of the great classic 'Broken Sword'. I have only 5 hours in this, but I think this is brilliant. If you like puzzle solving, combining items and following a story line...this is for you.
Best puzzle game i've played since the fantastic broken sword series.
    I highly recommend this.
