Doom aus denn Jahre 1993 eines der FPS-Shooter Genre zur nächsten Schritte eingeleitet wurde. Damals auf Dos mit Brotkasten & Diskette gezockt und knapp fast dreißig Jahre Später hat es sich mit PC Gaming nicht viel getan, nur eben keine Disketten mehr am Leben ist :D

In Doom spielt man Doomguy und rächt sich für seinen Häschen Daisy. Die Dämonen aus der Hölle bringen Tod & Chaos! Mit Shotgun,Plasma,Gewehr,Rocket oder mit der BFG zerballert man die ganze Höllische Horden!

Wollte ich eigentlich nur noch mal ausprobieren um zu sehen wie es gealtert ist.. Still great, dauert 10 minuten sich wieder an das Aimsystem zu gewöhnen und dann ist alles smooth, immer noch angenehm spielbar und das leveldesign ist great

I bought this game few months ago, and played it a little bit. I had to install a patch, for Doom to play in high resolution. As i checked out the game resently, i found out, that the game was improved a lot and has now fully support for new hardware and software. In my opinion this update improves the game a lot, without touching the original gameplay.

It's been 30 years already and this is one gift that keeps on giving. Without Doom Quake wouldn't have existed, Without Quake Half-Life wouldn't have existed and without Half-Life most of the classics and modern day video games wouldn't have existed either. So it's all thanks to the success of this legendary title by ID Software that we have many gems today. I have played many games that exist because of Doom and formed many lifelong friends and even found my significant other because of this. It's truly a heartfelt thank you to the original ID Software team. As a Doom and Quake fan I wish a future full of success to ID and all the titles they are working on.

Fun fact: John Romero and Tom Hall later confirmed that Doomguy was the son of Commander Keen and thus the great-grandson of Wolfenstein's BJ Blazkowicz.

Thirty years and I still remember some of the levels. I recall downloading Doom from a bulletin board on a dial up modem on a computer that pales in comparison to my smart phone. Yet, this game was the birth of a whole new era in gaming. Still a classic after so many years. For the kids who never experienced it, give it shot. Like watching Casablanca or Treasure of Sierra Madre for the first time and thinking the olden days really had some classics.

Doom (1993) was a critical and commercial success, earning a reputation as one of the best and most influential games of all time. It sold an estimated 3.5 million copies by 1999, and up to 20 million people are estimated to have played it within two years of launch. It has been termed the "father" of first-person shooters and is regarded as one of the most important games in the genre.

About	Description
????Graphics	Obviously this game is from 1993 so the graphics are not gonna be ground breaking or jaw dropping. Now despite the updated visuals, this game looks mighty impressive for it being made in 1993. The enemy design is really good for the time it was created, and the enemy looks pretty scary too. The weapon effects are solid as well (especially the Plasma Gun and BFG). The level design (in terms of visuals) looks pretty good too. I do like the design of the Moon station the most. I do feel like Hell was okay in terms of visuals, but felt underwhelming compared to the other levels.
????Gameplay	The gameplay is super straight forward. The game puts you right into the fight! Starting with a simple pistol, your duty is to destroy every Demon you see on each level. You will come across many secret areas on each map that may have a new weapon, ammo, health, or even a special ability for a limited time. You also have to find keys to unlock doors and passages to go forward into the next level. You will come across some tricky sections as well. For example, some doors are pretty hard to spot at times. So the map will be your best friend here. Always check your map just in case you missed a door that is really well hidden. The further you get into this game, the harder the levels become, you will fight some new enemies, and even some challenging bosses. The biggest gripe I have in this game is shooting enemies at elevated areas can be pretty trippy. Also some levels can be really tricky and annoying at times (especially with the teleporters). You will get lost and confused, especially with some of the backtracking you have to do. Luckily there are not that many tricky levels, so most of them are really well designed.
????Playtime	The main campaign can take you up to 5 hours to complete. Now if you try and get all the secrets, it may take you up to 8 hours. Luckily you have many fan made campaigns built into the game in the addons section, so this adds much more playtime into this game.
????Sound	The soundtracks are pretty good. Yeah they sound really old, but luckily there are many different soundtracks to keep many of the levels fresh. All of the enemies have their own unique sound design so it’s cool to tell which enemies you will encounter before you see them. The guns do sound pretty good as well! I really liked the Plasma Gun, and the Rocket Launcher.
❗Bugs❗	I haven’t really seen any bugs in this game. The game overall is really well polished. There may be some issues for some, but on my end, it felt really well optimized.
????Performance	Performance is just perfect. Any PC can absolutely run this game with no issues. So if you even have an old laptop, you should be good here.
✔️Pro’s	Simple controls Any PC can play it Amazing enemy design Straight to the point action Widescreen resolution support Incredible in-built community addons Plug and play (no needed patches) Graphics look sharp (despite its age) Many cool soundtracks (for a retro game)

????Conclusion	DOOM (1993) is an incredible masterpiece! I can see why this is so beloved by many people. I never played a classic game like this before, and I actually really enjoyed it alot. Yeah some levels are pretty confusing and can be annoying, but overall this game is fantastic! The icing on the cake is the community addons built into the game. You have tons of campaigns to go through (if you count the addons). If you never played DOOM (1993) and you are looking for a retro shooter, you need to buy this game! This is a steal for $5! A must buy!

DOOM (1993) was the first M rated game I've ever played. This game taught me to first moves to first-person shooter games and I am extremely satisfied with this as my starter. The concept of the game is quite simple and leaves players occupied for the entire game. I am extremely thankful to come across this game again and to be reminded of my childhood and to be reminded how a simple game can be the perfect game.

probably the most important video game of all time.

incredible environments and atmosphere for the time, soundtrack is still pretty good to this day honestly.

however i don't think it holds up as much today, most of its replayability and popularity comes from sourceports or user created content, some of which IS included in the bethesda re-release, but ignoring that, the base game on its own doesn't really hold up to this day in my opinion.

One of the greatest games of all time. Highly recommended, but take the time to set up a sourceport like chocolate-doom or gzdoom. The Bethesda port is pretty bad all around, somehow they even managed to screw up the mouse input even though it's literally one axis. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you want controller support. DOOM is a timeless classic though, everyone should play it.

It's one of the original first person shooters right along side classics such as wolfenstien and Duke Nukem. This game is a classic. It's worth every penny.

The first DOOM is very boom. Does not contain MF DOOM, but still great game. I played it on hurt me plenty and it was challenging but not impossible until I got to thy flesh consumed, why is thy flesh consumed so hard, what is the difficulty spike. Level design is good overall but early doom games really do want you to backtrack. Remember that tab opens map. Also steam says that ive only played the game for 3 hours but steam didnt count my offline hours smh steam.

As someone who was born after this game came out, I have no nostalgia for it and I can say for certain this game has aged well. With a nice built in port to make it run smoothly on modern systems, having official add-ons, and being DOOM- it's an easy recommendation.

The publisher did a nice job making this available for modern PCs. It runs within a Unity game engine wrapper, or it can run in stand-alone DOS-mode. Both work fine on my ubuntu linux desktop, with keyboard and mouse controls. I could have configured this all manually with GZDOOM, but for a couple dollars it was worth having it in my steam library and ready-to-go.

well all I could say it's a brilliant classic
It's nice to experience something that peeps played back in the days , this game is 28 y/o so I won't expect it to have HD graphics.
For the game itself it's real good gameplay , it's just feels fun to blast a shotgun into demon's , dodge projectiles etc.I like level design from going to facility right into the depths of hell , but I dislike that sometimes to go trought the level u need to find a secret or have this card , cuz u can't move anywhere and ur basically stuck.
Artstyle is rlly nice to look at and I like how devs used their unused sprites or pixel art and recreate it to another demon or projectile , demons itself are creatively done , u can just feel the year 90's.
Music it's not something I would listen on a daily bases but still quite catchy.
One more thing to mention is how u gotta be a genius to come up with the idea of making 2d looking like a 3d , I know it's been 1st in wolfeinstein but still something I wanted to point out.

I will give it good 7,5/10 , quite fun ^^

I'm approaching this not as a review to DOOM but moreso as a review to this Sourceport of DOOM that Bethesda had developed for Consoles, Beth.Net, and now repackaged for free into the Steam versions of DOOM. There isn't much point to reviewing the older DOOM games in 2021, you know DOOM, we all do if we're looking here more than likely.

And honestly they're great! The repackages that use Unity as a wrapper for DOOM I & II are fantastic and an easy way to allow new players to get into the older DOOMs as they don't require any extra tweaking or downloading of additional sourceports like GZDoom, and both of the ports have a plethora of additional mods you can download straight from the main menu, again no additional tweaking.

If the Sourceports really aren't your thing, the classic versions of DOOM are still packaged alongside the new versions so if you still wish to play the DOS versions they are still there, or if you wanted to use the files for a different sourceport.

It's Doom. What more needs to be said? What are you waiting for? An all time classic!

Seriously it still holds up well today. Set the standards for many games and FPS shooters to come.
Even it you find it 'dated' there are tons of great enhancements and engines to spruce it up. (I recommend GZ Doom combined with Brutal Doom.)

Also MODS GALORE. TONS of fan made maps you can get online!

The level designs are classic. The cast of monsters are classic. The grunts. The Imps. The Pink Munchers, The Barons. The Lost Souls. The Cacodemons. The Spider Mastermind. But fear....FEAR..the Cyberdemon!

And it is just as fresh and mad and delirious now as it was in 1995.

What's there to say about this game that hasn't been said? The grand-daddy of all shooters, DOOM is chock full of the run-n-gun, circle strafing, fast paced gameplay that would come to define the early era of fps games. If you're at all curious about how the fps got started, and want a hell of a fun time along the way, this is a good place to start.

(It's actually a proper port too, so not nearly as much messing around with settings and config files and the like that you'd expect from a game as old as this.)

Objectively: An everlasting, classic shooter game.

I thought it was just the old DOSBOX version of the game but it's not! It's the original Ultimate Doom but it has modernized controls and also you can fiddle around with the options such as changing resolution (there are supports for high resolutions!), FPS limit, changing the controls, etc. Sure, you still have other options like using a sourceport such as GZDoom but I like how the devs gave the game some love, and there's also an option to play the original DOS version if you want! And that's not the only reason I recommend it, this is a timeless classic very important to the games industry and everyone that enjoys FPS games should play it atleast once!

Despite being a mid-gen zoomer, I love old games. Doom is no exception. Though this iteration isn't the original, its as close as you can get on steam. I haven't gotten around to modding yet, but the fact that they left in old school WAD-modding is really cool. I recommend this to anyone who is into video games. Doom is such an influential and revolutionary game that it'd be a sin not to play it at least once.

A classic FPS. The FPS.

The DOOM series is a must-play if you're even remotely a fan of FPS games. Simple yet still a great blast to play. The main campaign won't take you long - about 10-20 hours depending on your skill level. But there's different difficulties, secrets, speedruns and there are several different mods like Brutal Doom.

This game is as amazing now, as it was in 90's. It doesn't matter to me, that it's almost 30 years old.
I've played Doom 2016 (4) and Doom Eternal (5) , but even then I still find first Doom games being really fun.
It's hard to explain, but simplicity and pure gaming fun means much more than new and sophisticated graphics. Still, they've done great job refreshing it, letting it run in 60FPS and removing annoying forward-backward mouse movement present in DOS version.

In short, all Doom games are amazing. Definitely try every one of them, this classic too !

I know it says i only have 0.5 hours playtime but i play Ultimate Doom through my Doom 2 install using ZDL because of convenience and i'm lazy.

Doom is the grandaddy of FPS games and is still a lot of fun today with excellent level design and iconic art and enemies.
The recent unity update is an ok way to play the game but do yourself a favour and grab yourself a source port like GZdoom then install some mods for the DOS version included when you buy.
You'll be able to play at higher resolutions, use full mouse look, get extra weapons, more gore and literally thousands of fan made levels, gamemodes and total conversions. There's guides on Steam which make it all very simple.
Circle strafing, demon blasting goodness.

Few days ago I finally bought Doom Eternal, completed 2 missions and then stopped. I thought this is so good and I wanna do it properly. So I bought the whole Doom collection. I just finished the first episode of Ultimate Doom and surprisingly 27 years later this still holds up not only as a Doom game but also as a FPS in general.

Could say Doom really is eternal.

This game right here was the classic Doom and the one that got me into gaming as a whole. I occasionally play it just for the Nostalgia and I am happy that this was the game that got me into gaming as a whole. Very awesome and nostalgic.

A heartwarming story about a missionary who visits an atheist community to purify them through the power of the Lord Jesus. Great for all the family.

In all seriousness, Doom is (potentially) the most revolutionary game ever made. It's a true testament to the game's quality that it's still being played 27 years after the original release. How many games can honestly say that about themselves? The age of this game is as irrelevant as it is unnoticeable. Doom is Eternal, don't you forget that.

The unity port is surprisingly good, mostly faithful to the original (biggest difference is Auto SR50 is always on).
I would recommend for both boomer doomers and zoomer doomers

It's DOOM.
Not really much to say that hasn't already been said. One of the best games of all time. Absolutely incredible.
Buy it for the WAD, then run GZDoom with Brutal Doom if you want it to feel like modern-day Doom.

Before the September 3rd Update the game was terrible. But now it's actually playable. What's different from the original DOOM is how there is a cross hair. It's yellow and it turns red once it's on an enemy. I'm not too sure of if it has cut scenes. I'll update the review once I get to that point. 8/10

The new update from Bethesa is absolutely disgusting. Get this game from another source. All my saves were nuked and they're pushing their garbage bethesda.net service on a game from 1993... Don't waste your time or money. It was worth it before the new update, now it definitely isn't.

The unity port is finally on Steam and features:

- Easy to pick up and play Doom experience for new players who don't want to mess around with source ports
- Splitscreen multiplayer
- Higher framerates
- Controller support
- New difficulty setting
- Some of the best map packs Doom has can be downloaded ingame. (Which unfortunatly needs an Bethesda Account)

The original release is still here and untouched so overall this is an great addition.

Excellent. The game plays well without the need for a source port now. If you had a source port before though, then it can still be played, since the update had not removed this. Doom 1 and Doom 2 now come with Final Doom and The Master Levels as add-ons. This helps keep your Steam library clean and you do not have to pay for these expansions anymore.

Overall, the game now seem more accessible than ever. A great experience.

One criticism I must make however, is that Ultimate Doom is now 400+ MB as opposed to the much smaller size it took up previously.

spectacular, no other word for it, it is the father of FPS games and it still holds up today, the graphics don't feel dated they feel unique and you could have released this two weeks ago and it would still get extremley positive reviews.

Review:
Doom is a masterpiece, although I only played it with GZdoom and Brutal Doom, I think that it is still worth reviewing, playing the game in 1080p, I feel like that people who has never played this game can still enjoy it and with the quality of life improvements of GZdoom. But with Brutal Doom, it becomes one of the best FPS games I have ever played, the lighting is great, the new guns are great, the new lighting is great, the blood and gore is great, everything is great with it. although it feels a bit different from the original Doom, it still is Doom, and it is great fun. I had more fun in Brutal Doom than in the modern Dooms. I have provided the installation guide for both of them under the review, and RIP AND TEAR!
Installation:
How to play GZdoom
1.Download GZdoom
2.Go into you directory and find the DOOM wad file
3.Drag it into the GZdoom folder
4.Click the GZdoom exe file and it should launch the game normally.
Optional: Installing Brutal Doom
1.Download Brutal Doom
2.Drag the PK3 file into the GZdoom folder
3.If you want to play it, just drag the PK3 file into the GZdoom exe file and the you can play Brutal Doom

The Ultimate Doom is a timeless classic. You play as a Marine that goes by the nickname Doomguy. You're sent to a facility on Mars that is under distress, once you get to the facility you come face-to-face with an Alien species know as The Hellspawn. The mission has turned from search and rescue to survive and escape. I have enjoyed this game since I was a young kid and I always will recommend this game to whomever asks.

Doom is the video game equivalent of curling up in front of a warm fire on a cold night with a piping hot mug of cocoa. It's just that darn cozy.

Best enjoyed with GZDoom, texture filtering OFF (for that glorious chunky look) and OPL synth emulation for the finest rendition of classic midi tunes before topping it all off with John Romero's unofficial fifth chapter Sigil.

I'm so glad they made this Doom game available on Steam and it's only 5$
I was born 12 years after the release of this game but I'm glad i can still play it and I see why it was and still is a very fun and challenging game! I recommend this game!

DOS emulator is :/ at best - literally the rest of the game is fantastic. I had the misfortune of not being alive when the original DOOM was released, but even with my more modern taste in graphics and gameplay elements it is safe to say that this game has stood the test of time and is enjoyable despite its age even when not viewed through the lens of nostalgia.

DOOM is a fantastic game it is one of those gems that never get boring no matter how old they are they still remain gold. I would highly recommend you download GZDOOM and play this on that I would also highly recommend doing mods because doom without them is 10/10 and with them is 20/10

Firstly, I highly recommend getting the GZDOOM engine before attempting to run this game. It's better than the DoS-Box emulator Steam ships with it. There's a tutorial on YouTube if you need help with it.

Now, as for Doom is concerned, coming from someone who usually plays Halo, Doom is still a pretty good game. With the GZDOOM emulator, it allows me to play Doom with modern shooting controls and mechanics like *GASP* FREELOOK. Though jumping does cause you to sequence break some of the maps, especially in the Thy Flesh Consumed Episode. Other than that, Doom proves why it's still relevant nearly 30 years later.

Its doom. Thanks to the fact that this game came out in the 90's on dos, it will run on any computer pretty much ever made. Amazing game play that still holds up today.

just download GZDOOM after buying this
dont get me wrong, doom's great vanilla, just
brutal doom, and just GZDOOM alone is AMAZING
