The emotional buildup falls flat, which makes the story feel dull and uninspired. We only end up facing four gods in total—and two of them are just lowest creatures. The main character doesn’t stand out or draw you in, making it hard to stay invested. That said, I really liked Enki as the Death God—definitely one of the highlights.

This was a fun and very stylish game. Combat takes a bit to get used to but then flows very well. There's a few frustrating elements but overall I really enjoyed my time with it!

To be honest, I don't find the game bad, and the actual, i like it really well, and honestly it is impressed me alot, I haven't finished the game yet, so i will come back and update this review when im reach the end game, but what i can say now is:

Im recomend it obivously to give this an try.

Rating it to 10/10.

Good: Visuals, voice acting, movement mechanics, level design as the fly points made it easy to lock in progress.
Passable : Story, lack of armor pieces
Cons: The combat was easy and difficult at the same time. I could not get used to the timing on the red counter. The red pistol counter time seems off or the animation lock makes it harder to execute than it needs to be.

I was a fan of the demo this game had pre-release, so I bought it at some point a lot longer than the return period for Steam, unfortunately.

Nothing works well. It's very poorly optimized. The performance is abysmal with constant frame drops in and out of combat and cinematics. The settings in the options menu such as changing frame limits and V-Sync etc don't even work. Movement feels bad. Combat not only feels bad, it doesn't work as intended by design and the parts that do don't seem consistent; especially the damned lock on...

I'm a fan of souls games, and at max difficulty this feels like it could be a good one. But it's not. Maybe it will be after some post launch patches I don't feel coming at this point or maybe the specs listed for recommended requirements are not as described on the Steam page.

It has potential but currently isn't functional, just like my ding-dong. Why won't you work ding-dong?!?! WHYYYYYY!?!?!?

I really enjoyed this game, however I think calling it a Souls-like is an absolute miss and probably contributed to the mixed response to the game.
It would be more accurate to call it a God of War 2018-like. Except Atreus is a magic fox.
Just like GoW, it's not particularly difficult, but the combo meter in combat made it fun and satisfying to rack up a huge multiplier. I have a couple of gripes with combat, like how secondary ranged weapons have a set number of shots and that's it, but being able to refill primary ammo with melee defeats my hoarding instincts and makes me actually use the ranged weapons.
The art style is superb, specifically the design of the bosses and hosts in the coffee shops. Enki's attacks and powers are visually appealing and the traversal is vastly better than GoW in my opinion. No slowly backtracking over Sony-brand yellow paint cliffs, the shortcuts let you travel across previous areas incredibly fast.
Overall a fun 15-16 hour experience. Given the ending, I'm not sure how a sequel could work, but if it does, I wish the devs success. Iterating on the excellent ideas and excising the bad ones could make a really killer Flintlock 2.

Feels like one of those AA games from the 2010 generation.

Trying to be a souls like game but the combat is just a bit too clunky for that. Combat isn't hard to master, but the way enemies are designed means sometimes you cant tell if an attack is blockable or not until they are already swinging it, which is kinda annoying. Even dodging isn't always the play since MANY enemy attacks have such a wide arc that you just dodge into the other side of the arc.

The story line is relatively forgettable, but the concept of the world is actually interesting. I liked the beginning with a ww1 tech level army fighting in trench warfare against endless undead hordes. I wish it stayed with that concept more. I would have enjoyed a gritty and miserable trench warfare setting more than one that kind of turns into a forgettable Dragon age style fantasy world.
The voice acting is decent enough that it did not suck me in or push me out of the world, to be expected with a AA game.

The game is pretty though!

I'd say a solid 7/10. Pick up for no more than $20.

I will update the review with additional info if I decide to come back and finish the game at any point.

I have never played a soulslike with such bad and clunky combat. It has potential but not like this.

I really want to like this game, but the combat doesn't flow very well, the story feels like it's had half its chapters taken out, and the ending is...mid. Buy it on deep, deep sale.
