Gameplay
Wie seine Vorläufer setzt Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection auf eine eingängige Steuerung. Mit ihr kämpfst du dich durch seltsame und gespenstische Schauplätze voller einzigartiger Gegner. Diese verzauberte Welt wird mittels moderner Technologie und Spieldesign-Philosophie zum Leben erweckt!

Ghosts 'n Goblins ist, nun ja, bockschwer. Die unnachgiebige Schwierigkeit ist charakteristisch für die Serie, und Resurrection reiht sich da nahtlos ein. Du wirst sterben. Und dann noch einmal. Aber du wirst wieder aufstehen und dich mit jedem Versuch verbessern. Du lernst deine Gegner besser kennen und kannst deine Strategie verfeinern. Du wirst scheitern. Aber wenn du es dann irgendwann vollbracht hast, schmeckt der Sieg umso süßer. Das ist Ghosts 'n Goblins.

In Resurrection verfügt Arthur über 8 Arten von Waffen, jede mit ganz eigenen Charakteristiken. Strecke deine Gegner mit bewährten Mitteln wie Lanze und Dolch nieder, verschieße Schockwellen mit dem Hammer, um Feinde durch die Luft zu schleudern, oder kegle sie mit einer Stachelkugel spektakulär um! Nutze all diese Möglichkeiten, schmiede deinen Plan, um weiterzukommen und schreite fort durchs Dämonenreich!

Neben dem großen Waffenarsenal kann Arthur auch auf Magie und andere Fertigkeiten zurückgreifen. Mit „Gewittersturm“ entfesselst du einen Pfeilhagel in alle vier Richtungen. Oder erweitere mit „Ausstaffiert“ Arthurs Inventar, um mehr Waffen mit dir führen zu können. Das ist noch längst nicht alles, also lass noch etwas Platz für Magie und Fertigkeiten bei deiner Strategie!

Setze Arthurs Trias aus Waffen, Magie und Fertigkeiten voll ein, um dem Martyrium des Dämonenreichs zu trotzen und die Prinzessin wohlbehalten nach Hause zurückzubringen. Gib alles, was du hast. Es wird nötig sein!

Zusätzlich zum Solomodus, der sich auf den Spaß konzentriert, sich Herausforderungen alleine zu stellen, kann Arthur bei seiner epischen Suche von Unterstützungscharakteren, den Drei greisen Weisen, unterstützt werden. Ein intensives Koop-Erlebnis für zwei Spieler – eine Premiere für die Serie!

Für alle die gerne es etwas schwieriger haben. Man wird sehr oft scheitern. Wobei auf dem schwächsten Schwierigkeitsgrad ist ständige Wiederbelebung möglich. Die Macher des Spiels haben sich sehr an dem alten Ghosts and Goblins für NES orientiert. Einige Levels sind der Mega Drive Version sehr ähnlich. Ein forderndes Jump n Run.

Als ehemaliger Spieler des original Titels auf dem Super Nintendo dachte ich, das Spiel könnte gut sein!
Die Idee dahinter mag auch gut sein, aber die Umsetzung gefällt mir nicht.

Eigenschaften wie die verschiedenen Rüstungsstufen und damit verbundene Effekte sind weg und über komische Feen freizuschalten.
Der Doppelsprung der einem schon so häufig das Leben gerettet hat, ist weg.

Die Grafik ist zwar schöner, aber mir fehlt einfach das gewisse Extra. Somit ist die Idee zwar Nett, aber mir gefällt das Spiel nicht. Daher gibt es von mir ein nicht Empfohlen für alle, die das alte Spiel geliebt haben.
Für neue Spieler jedoch, dürfte dieser Titel ganz interessant sein.

First of all, let me express my admiration for the game's impressive visuals, great design, music and solid mechanics. However, it's clear that GnG (Ghosts 'n Goblins) games have always been synonymous with challenging difficulty. While I managed to walk through the relatively easier Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on the SNES on 'normal', the difficulty in this particular installment feels excessively high. I initially began playing on 'Legend' difficulty, which seems to be the intended (pre-selected) mode, and after nearly four hours, I'm still unable to reach the first boss.

The difficulty is made worse by the fact that just remembering things doesn't help much, because enemies can show up randomly in tricky places. It's really frustrating when enemies suddenly appear right on top of you while you're in mid-air, just to send you straight to death. This was always part of GnG games, but it's even more extreme here. Sometimes, there can be up to 10 flying enemies on the screen, with at least three of them shooting things at you.

I changed the game to an easier setting, but it doesn't feel quite right to play a GnG game where I can survive more than two hits. I would have liked a version that stays true to the original but has a bit fewer enemies, with probaby a normal mode with the option to make it harder. It's disheartening to see the standard difficulty level set to 'Legend,' making you feel inadequate unless you end up in baby-mode - aka instant respawn - just to maintain a slight feeling of progress.

Certainly, I acknowledge that this is not meant to be a walk in the park, and especially that I'm not among the elite GnG players who can flawlessly navigate the game, pulling off 0-hit runs. However, it feels like this game is aiming at joystick-virtuosos rather than the average player. Without a doubt, this game is inaccessible for players like me unless the difficulty is adjusted to a point where I start to feel completely unworthy.

I also understand that in today's gaming landscape, there's an increasing niche for hardcore players who thrive on challenges that are inhumanly difficult. Those who claim that this game isn't hard likely fall within this elusive category.

I initially gave it a thumbs up due to its graphics and gameplay, but upon thorough reflection, I had to revert the decision. While it is true that I can potentially advance in the game, it does barely feel like a true accomplishment. It's more like one lucky outcome after doing the same thing over and over again for an exorbitant and unproductive amount of time. It's not exactly fun, but rather feels like enduring some sort of random torture.

The repetition inherent in many old-school arcade-games becomes enjoyable when it aids in learning patterns and gaining a feeling of mastery. Nevertheless, when enemies display inconsistent behavior—e.g. attacking at times but not in others—it creates an impression that success is attainable purely through sheer luck after endless attempts. This isn't the kind of gaming experience I'm looking for.

If you're fan of SNES Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, this game will be a frustration. It spoils original REASONABLE complexity: lack of double jump, crazy amount of enemies (and appearing right at your position so you can't even react in time), etc
Actually it almost impossible to walk through this game without checkpoints, while for SNES version it was doable.
Here your survival depends only on luck, not on your skill.

Only played for 20 mins before rage quitting (it was close to miiiiiid, night). I died more times than my first encounter with Father Gascoigne with no concept of parrying. I hate it.

I've never played original Ghosts'n Goblins game as a kid, but I know it was notoriously hard. So when this remake came out, I didn't want to spend too much money on the game, that I would probably give up on, with my poor gaming abilities. I was so wrong. This game is awesome. There's a lot of difficulty settings to start you off. I literaly couldn't stop playing until I've finished all aspects of the game. Highly recommended.

I like all the old Ghouls N' Ghosts and Ghosts N' Goblins games. The one thing you need to know is that this isn't Ghosts N' Goblins remastered. It's a brand new game with branching pathways, an upgrade tree, and 4 difficulties. The pixel art is replaced with whatever the technical term for this is (hand drawn?), and usually I don't like that, but I feel like there is enough pixel art out there for this series, and the hand-drawn stuff doesn't look terrible. The game feels good. I still play the old games through the Capcom Classics Emulator, which you can do too, if you want those. This is just nice for fans of the series who want something new. I'm actually surprised it's doing well on the market at all. It's probably just old dusty people like me driving the sales.

Graphically awesome.

Gameplay wise, oh boy. Many subtle balancing decisions about the originals are thrown out the window leading to forced deaths. Plus no balance on the weapons and two useless ones were added so just get the knife. If you want to understand what I mean play the game without magic. If you can get this for $5 get it, otherwise avoid unless you love pain.

Play the originals they are a million times better.

Tl;DR: Hard. Very hard. Fun, if you like quarter pumper type games.

G&G:R is similar to Volgaar in that you need to just play the levels to know in advance what is coming. Levels and mobs are a combo of Ghosts & Goblins and Ghouls & Ghosts. Classic weapons are there and a few new ones. Magic system is back from Ghouls, but abilities are not linked to specific weapons. You unlock magic from spending collectables and equip abilities you want.

Really fun but REALLY HARD TOO, if you get frustraded easily, do NOT buy this game, because you die A LOT, it also have a cool co-op mode.

Great game I really enjoy playing it and am not done yet I still have a few hours to go to finish it on easy level. I grew up playing Ghost 'n Goblns in the 80's and this Resurrection game takes me back to those good old days! The price seems kinda high and I got it at 33% off and have no regrets! It's really fun & challenging too. Even in two player and on easy (squire) mode. The other levels of difficulty are Knight, and Legend.

My son and I have played 5 hours together and are only about half way done the game in squire mode. When playing two players the second person plays as a ghost and can change between 3 different ones. The ghost have some cool perks to help the other player out such as carrying them around in the air or protecting them with a temporary forcefield.

Games like this are rare...very rare! The programming of the AI enemies, the placements of spawns and the projectile pathing is God like in it's execution. The level of precision that has gone into ensuring you will die as often as possible is breath taking!!

The presentation is clean and tight, no fat...it's exactly what it needed to be...simple and to the point. The art direction is superb and everything is animated really, really well. The basics feel great...jumping and attacking all feel great and it really isn't a chore to rerun the same segment 100 times trying to achieve progress.

I've only just started my Legendary playthrough (hardest setting - recommended if you grew up in the 80's!) and have already taken over 2 hours to get to the first checkpoint on the first level so...very, very challenging but an absolute joy to play due to masterful programming.

Dev's around the world should look and learn at Ghosts and Goblins. Games do not need to be weighed down with features and 4K graphics with ray tracing to become loved and wanted. This game understands the laws of gaming and respects them with every frame. A masterpiece in my opinion...

9/10 - I will return to update this review once I've completed it...

I love this game. Gameplay, music and art are great and really take me back in time. You can make it as hard or almost as easy as you would like it to be so everybody should be able to enjoy this game. My first playthrough was on Knight difficulty (second highest) and right now I am getting my ass handed to me on Legend difficulty.

This game is awesome, its HARD AF! You will die a lot but start the game and set the difficulty to LEGEND and I have a challenge for you, it took me 73 deaths to complete the first level and I bet you can't beat that but I wish you luck.

My introduction to the series was similar to those dreams of finding hidden treasure when you were a kid. I found an odd box under an evergreen tree at the front of my house and I grabbed it and looked inside and there were 4 SNES games in it. Super Ghouls and Ghosts was one of them, also F-Zero. What had happened was there was a house party across the street and everyone was drunk and one of the guests stole the home owners SNES games and tossed them under my tree in a little box, they planned on retrieving it but I came across the box before they showed up. I will never forget that day, I only had Super Mario and Street Fighter 2 at the time so 4 brand new games was the equivalent to finding a treasure chest fill of diamonds in my mind.

I would like to start this short review by saying that this was my entry into this franchise. Never played this series before, although I had heard about it. So I was sorta concerned with the price point. But I bought it anyways, and I played the game....AND it's extremely difficult. And because of the high price point, I returned the game.

Well, I couldn't stop thinking about it after I returned it, So I bought the game again, and i absolutely love this game. The graphics are beautiful! If you're like me, and enjoy the challenge of games like dark Souls, you'll surely find some masochist pleasures in this title.

A terrific, thoroughly revised remake. Gorgeous to look at, merciless and chock full of new and tastefully done features, this one is a pure love letter to Arthur's Dinosaurs.

Pros:
If you're a huge fan of Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts that were originally released on NES and Mega Drive/Sega Genesis, I recommend playing Ghosts 'n Goblins: Resurrection! It's very fun classic 2D Side-Scrolling Action Game. But nevertheless, game is supposed to be hard but hard in a good way.

Cons:
-Game doesn't support ultrawide aspect ratio 21:9 and 32;9 which I had to set back to 2560 x 1440P Resolution.
-It is $30 USD but if you run into budget issue, you can always wait until Steam goes on sale.
-Game was challenging but very rewarding once you get used to it.
-Utilizing RE Engine

Thoughts:
You will need a Gamepad Controller to play this game which is strongly recommended! Also, you can adjust metronome to alter game speed after completing the game. Yes, the game was capped at 60fps which is normal due to framerate tied to physics engine. Thankfully, the game supports Xinput, though not sure if it works with Dual Sense/Dual Shock Playstation Controller, but you can always emulate via Big Picture Mode on Steam. Other than that, it was very challenging and I'm truly enjoying classic 2D Side-Scrolling game!

Tip: Try to acquire a knife which you can kill enemies faster.
