The game lacks variety and gets old pretty quickly due to how limited the gameplay is. There's no real story to hook you. No interesting characters that are involved with the story. The character you play as is just a robot you puppet around so there's absolutely zero characterization there. The world is pretty bland and uninteresting and just feels like a lazy repeat of any old fantasy trope. Practically no difficulty. The puzzles aren't made for children, they're made for toddlers.

I don't hate the game or anything, I just got to a point where I just asked myself why I was playing and I couldn't come up with a reason for why. There's nothing to hook you.

very fun game with pikmin-like mechanics, also has a good/evil meter similar to the fable/kotor games. there's good humor throughout and completing the game and going for 100% completion is enjoyable and not too long that it overstays it's welcome. the gameplay involves a good mix of using the minions in combat, and using them to solve puzzles. i'm excited to jump into the expansion.

The game is interesting, but the plot here is in the spirit of a road movie. And the main plot is practically absent. There is no interaction with brides either. Minions die at such a speed that you do not have time to power up them and so on. If you want, there is something to find fault with, but you don't want to, since there are practically no analogues.

P.S.: How to pump properly
1. We knock out the souls in the tower in the arena of beetles.
2. The sword is 100% fiery
3. Armor - 25% brown and 75% green
Armor is waiting for the 3rd level

Very good game! Excellent minion-management action adventure about Evil Overlord who is destroying all good and conquer every enemy that he met. This game has good story, very cool and funny humor and incredible gameplay that not annoys you not a single moment. Highly recommend.

They do not make games with innovation, comedy and originality like this anymore.
Funny, fun and just a good time.

With modern games being nothing but looter shooter, live service money grabs, it's nice to go back to when games were just fun and made to entertain.

Works well and good to play, even today.
Forget the modern garbage and go back to when games were honest fun and get something like Overlord.

Fun game, if you like games where you are the bad guy and where there is a sort of hit or miss humor, this game is for you.

Overall the graphics are OK; although it is muddy at times, and being an old game, it is not always clear what to do, and most things are not even explained, so bear that in mind. I got stuck for a while trying to find what to do because the game does not tell you; then you go in an area you already explored, and a cut scene start, which open a new area. You will get used to it after a while.

Sound is OK; sometimes you have music, which is cool. The minions talking in high pitch are fun but get annoying fast.

Gameplay is not great, but it has its moments. The control scheme is horrendous: you move the mouse to look around, use the keyboard to move the overlord and the minions follow. If you click the left button of the mouse, the minions go forward and attack anything is in front of them, press the right click to recall them.
If you press both buttons, you can sort of guide minions in areas where you can't reach, because they are smaller than you; but the problem is that the game has an horrible pathfinding, so you may end up cursing this system over and over, especially in more advanced missions where you need to deliver a time bomb to the enemies or you need to use a crank with your minions.

Most of the time the minions are smart enough but in other cases, like around water or fire, they often end up killing themselves because of the horrible pathfinding.

In general the game is enjoyable, you play as a sort of bad guy/sauron type of character, you can swing your weapon with spacebar and damage yourself the enemies, but most of the game is based on using minions. With one minion type it is fine, but when you start to get more types, it gets messy easily, since you can either use one type of minion (some can swim, some can go through fire, some can go thorugh poison), or use them all together; and this coupled with the horrible pathfinding and messy controls, spell disaster and it is a source of frustration. When it works, it is fun, but it does not always work.

6 out of 10 in general. Fun game, different from usual, ruined by bad controls and bad pathfinding

Absolutely terrible port to PC!
For a game that is all about controlling your minions, controlling your minions is the worst part of this game.
They get stuck everywhere, they don't path to you if you call them back so you end up running around to give them a better pathing and finally find their way to you.

My son plays it too so he might still play it till the end but I'm done with this madness

I have played this game a couple of times on an old Samsung laptop I had many years ago and it ran fairly well. It's like if Pikmin was placed in a more Medieval or fairy tale setting with some dark humor thrown in. Frustrating at times but worth the fun and enjoyment I got out of it! Crude humor? Bashing on the elves? Yay! Sign me up!

And you get to play a villain. Haha!

Edit: This game can still run in Windows 10 and you can set the resolution through the launch option you're shown.

Overlord

An older game where you play as the Overlord, an evil being bent on domination and destruction through your growing horde of minions. Your only goal in this world is to grab it by the balls and **** some **** up. What's not to like? Lets get into it

The Good

The Combat and Gameplay

- Overlord takes a strange turn for a game based on being an evil oppressor hellbent on destruction. In a style similar to the Pikmin games, you control a group of tiny, evil imps called minions. They are loyal only to you and hold your similar taste for death and destruction. You have this army at your beck and call as you ravage the lands. It is quite a unique take on a third-person action game. As you Overlord, you too of course can fight, but the majority will be left to your minions.

The Strategy

- Although it might not seem like it, this game (especially in the mid-to-end stages) heavily relies on thought out attacks and strategy. You have four types of minions in your armies who all have special abilities and uses. Your brown minions are your fighters, tough and strong in numbers. Your red minions attack at range with their balls of fire. Your green minions fight from the shadows, hitting critical shots on your foes from behind. Your blue minions use magic and can act as medics towards your fallen minions. That being said, every battle can be planned and orchestrated using this information. One bad plan can result in your army's demise and your death, a good plan can mean another battle won.

The World and Humor

- Although this is the first of the Overlord series, this game sets up what will eventually be an amazingly fun, unique, and satirical fantasy world. Instead of draping the usual pompous and stuck up fantasy designs of most games, Overlord takes a much more humorous and warped perspective on the world. Specifically from the viewpoint of the villain, who wants no more than the streets to run red with the blood of his enemies. All that aside, when you're not crushing villages or battling epic beasts, the world is quite fantastical and can be very fun to walk around and take in.

The Bad

The Autosaves

- A common issue in older games. The autosave function is not fully functional and if you are someone with, let's say, a full-time job and/or responsibilities, how frequently they fail can be quite frustrating. For example, you might finish a boss fight in one reason, move onto the next area, see the autosave emblem appear, and then after waiting you'll quit as you have to add generic reason here . When you get back, you'll load in and for some reason it didn't save. Now you have to waste half an hour redoing what you just did. Very annoying.

The Ugly

The Controls

- Sorry, I have to say it. The fatal flaw of Overlord is the fact that it was a game made for the XBOX 360, PS3, and early windows. That being said, the controls work much, much, MUCH better on a controller. It was clearly designed with two of the three consoles in mind. It is actually a massive issue, well known to the community, as the controls get stuck on the mouse (no, not as in my mouse is sticky). The digital input of the control holds long than you need, so you might find yourself stuck controlling minions when you are about to be smashed by a troll. You want to dodge, but you are stuck and frantically smash your controls until you either die or get lucky enough to get unstuck.

Overall

Overlord came out in 2007. It is a game that myself and many others grew up on. It is old, and has it's share of problems. All that being said it still holds up 15 ****ing years later. It is still super entertaining, funny, and overall a great time. Its cheap as heck too. I would recommend it to anyone.

I played this game in 2009 .
and i think it's still hold up pretty well .

good controls and Graphics and a gorgeous art design the game remind me off lord of the rings
the overlord is like Sauron the minions like orks but better and you have your elf , dwarf , halfling and other fantasy creatures the final boss is like [spoiler] gandalf [/spoiler] .

not convinced yet you can choose your wife .

* I recommend being evil in the start so you can have 12 mistress for your tower .
* I played it with a control .
and remember evil always finds a way....

Overlord is really a great game which have aged well in my opinion. Graphics are ok but mechanics and overall robustness is quite good. The whole concept of being evil (without really being evil) and have minions under your control is very satisfying. Puzzles and battles are not too tough and so the game can be played by younger players and older players alike. I recommend trying.

Overlord is one of those games I played a lot on my PS3 when I was young. Because of nostalgia I wanted to give it another try seeing as I never finished the game when I was younger. So how was this now very old game? Well, you do feel that it's a bit more of a rough and aged game but still a very good game at that. The best part in this game is by far your minions, their dialog and comments on everything are just golden. They also carry you big time in combat(quite the evil overlord you are I know). The game is also just a big parody of your classic fairytale stories which does create a lot of quirky moments where u will smirk. The combat is pretty basic and boring there's only one combo really, there are spells you can use but I mostly just buffed my minions with those. This game really focuses on your minions and using them wisely is a must. They aren't just fodder(Ok, maybe sometimes they are... Fine, most of the time). The areas are colorful and neatly designed, there is exploring to be done, to find more spells, mana, health or minion upgrades. You can upgrade your tower of darkness, find a mistress, make choices which effect your ending and so on. It took me about 24 hours to beat this game including this dlc and while it might get a little bit repetitive by the end I have 0 regrets replaying this old gem. If you're new check it out! If you're and old fan give it another run good chum!

At first a great game with good mechanics. First 10 hours of game were great, but then it went downhill. Game has little to no improvements of itself. Player gets easily bored, because everything was already introduced. Overlord´s core is not that interesting or, may I write, addictive, to keep you hooked without the development of mechanics over the course of playtime.

Overlors is a game that aged with incredible grace, with a brilliant, catchy design, and an delicious darkly humorous flair. The core mechanic, the minions, is brilliant. Weapons, currency, defense and puzzle solving tools, all in one. Level design must have been a huge pain in the ass, but it worked brilliantly. The visuals, that aged surprisingly well, remind me a lot of Fable, same flair that manages to depict good and evil equally well in a light tone. some characters are a bit shallow, for sure, the same can be said about the plot (the grand finale is maybe the weakest part of the game), but it was a surprise to play this game for the first time. A VERY good surprise that gets it an 85/100 from me. Absolutely worth playing it!

Good fun to be had, although I had a game-breaking glitch. Apparently, if you pick the wrong path (go straight ahead first) or leave the brewery before completing it, you risk not being able to proceed as a needed item will despawn permanently. This is some 10-15 hours into the game so more than a bit annoying. Still, I would recommend it.

I knew it when it came out back in those days but forgot about it. Then i saw a youtube video of hänno at hand of blood. Marvellous introduction into overlord and lots of fun. This got me hooked again, i had the cd somewhere but then i saw it was in steam for a few bucks. Fair enough, gimme that.

This game gives me so much childhood memories that I pretty much grew up to it,

It's shocking how this game is so underrated and when ever I talk about it to people, they always say that they never heard of it,

If only there were more games like these now a days. I miss the good old days of being a child.

One of the most brilliant game out there. This game aged pretty well. Used to play it a lot in my childhood, now as an adult i can say i have the same fun! Just love it. There's a certain satisfaction having your minion army to obbey your command, just watch them as they bring chaos and mayhem in the world.

I need to say upfront that I am playing this game in 2019-2020 so the game is pretty old.
Also I have no nostalgic sentiment towards this game as I never played this when it launched or any of the other game in the series.
Despite all that I really enjoy this game!
It has a very nice atmosphere and a good sense of humour.
It contains a bit of satire for the whole fantasy genre and quirky characters.
Overall it's all very charming and I think the shortcomings (not the tightest controls, some glitches here and there) are overshadowed by it's virtues as a classic fantasy action game with a twist!

Great game. Mechanics are a lot of fun, love controlling the little minions, and the story is funny and cute. DLC is pretty good, gives you four extra levels/areas to explore and some unique items you can forge. As someone obsessed with old school games like ratchet and clank and other fun action games with a good mix of strategy and fighting and gathering. I am not fond of really hard games usually, like ones that you have to replay the same level 100 times or spend 40% of my time online looking up how to play the game and get through ridiculous levels. I like fun games that are decently challenging without tearing my hair out. This fits that perfectly. Lots of fun, highly recommended.

I am a 36 yer old casual gamer girl, btw's. haven't owned a console since the ps2 and tend to like the types of games made 15-20 years ago. This is one of my favorite PC games on my bloated steam account and have played it through multiple times. Overlord 2 is great as well.

I had this game on my Xbox 360 years ago and I saw that it was very cheap on steam so I bought it to re-live some good old memories, I very much enjoyed my play through. Even though there are no achievements on this game or anything to say you have 100% completed it, I still feel like I did. I have every armour and weapon in the game, I have all the tower objects including the gold bags, I have all the mistress items and I have also completed all of the DLC.

There are a couple of flaws but that's to be expected with any game, especially one this old. The main issue I had was minions getting stuck due to poor path finding, I couldn't sweep or re call the odd one or two sometimes so I would either have to reload my save or enter a new area.

I would say it is a fairly easy game for the first 20 hours (That is about 2/3 into the game if you include DLC) but the second to last boss in the main story is fairly difficult and the final one in the DLC was by far the hardest.

If you want a fairly easy game that isn't too long, has a good story and easy to jump in and out of, I would highly recommend this! I would rate it 7.5/10.

Love this game! It's so endearing and I love playing the bad guy. I wish there were a map or something, and some little things they never tell you how to do. But overall its a game I come back to over and over.

Overall rather fun. Kind of like Pikmin meets Despicable Me. Main gripes stem from the fact that it is an older game (in design/game mechanics choices). There have been some situations where I wished there were more checkpoint or save points. And the controls aren't as explicitly taught as I would like (and old enough that online material is less available). But still rather fun. The atmosphere and premise is great. You get to be a bad or good as you choose. Wish there was more love and/or exposure for this game. Really underrated.

As a person who played the second game before this first one, I really enjoyed it! The only things so far I have complaints about are controls over the camera, in which it was super awkward to learn. There's no tutorial for it either, I had to randomly press buttons to find out how to steady my view instead.

But so far, Overlord has always made me feel like I'm solving puzzles, but in a badass and engaging way with the four types of minions I get to control. If I had to choose, I'd still go for Overlord 2, but this game is honestly not bad on its own either. <3

Super old game that I'm now playing almost 10 years after buying it. Enjoyable gameplay and a fun story, but the camera controls give me a headache and motion sickness at the same time. Probably not a problem for most people, though. =)

This game is very micromangement heavy, if you don't assign your healers to a guardpost they have zero autonomy and will not heal your units unless you personally direct them to. the maps are large and you have no sprint button so it takes forever and a half to get anywhere. you have no jump button so if you're trapped behind a gold cart for example you have to restart the level. your units will defend themselves if under attack (or in range) so thats automattically something that this game did better than Starcraft 2.

oh and this game isn't an open world type game. even though the levels look like it should be, whats that you simply want the Mother Goddess Statue to remove the Evernight Vines from your farms? hahhha! NOPE! OFF TO THE DWARVEN LANDS FOR YE! i've heard that the Daughter of Terry Patchet (Of Discworld Fame) wrote this game, so expect funny. also you can get the entire franchise on steam for like 40$ in a bundle which I got. not bad, just very much not my cup of tea but i'm playing this anyways because nostalgia. this franchise is the first game I saw on YT/

???? i was skeptical when a friend had told me i would love this game, but after playing it, they where right, its like pikmin except way cooler in my opinion, its alot of fun, i wish more people would make games like this, it has its flaws, but it's really unique, and honestly i don't mind its too much fun, the game has times it makes me laugh and times it makes me feel powerful because of its epicness, and i highly recommend adding this game to your lists ⚔️
