This is probably one of the worst buys I have EVER done. I had loads of fun with Sacred 2. No 3? Most of the time I had no clue why I was even fighting. Sure there was bits of random humour and stuff, but it in no way compensated for all the other negative points. I mean they changed the game from the classic open world type of play, why? No clue, I mean I could not actually see why that choice was made since it was one of the main reasons the two previous games were so successful.
Honestly, it was not THE worst game I have ever played, but connecting it to the Sacred franchise is honestly insulting, since very little of any part of the previous games were visible in this thing.

decent casual hack and slash game.
straight forward no need to search a lot of stuff, just hack and slash.
should have been called something besides sacred 3 as the sacred title hurt the game's popularity because people were expecting more and got less.
didn't come across any bugs, didn't have to google anything to have it work, keyboard and mouse/controllers worked without hassles.
graphics were okay.
still on it's own merits it is decent and worth about $5 for the game and all DLC, if more than that just play any free to play game.

The storz of Sacred 3 shows how important branding is. If it was called Sacred: The Beatemup or something, clearly stating that it's not an RPG, it would be well liked - its fast, it;s polished, its a lot of fun in coop. But it wasn't. Sacred Citadel is objectively a worse game, but it doesn't have this crushingly negative rating.

That's the most important information - It's more like Gauntlet than Sacred 2. If you like such games, it's a lot of fun - it has more meat on its's bones than Gauntlet or Forced. Personally, I like it a lot.

Giving Sacred 3 a negative review is like beating a dead horse. With a bloody Mjölnir. And extreme prejudice. Everybody hated this game. Literally, everybody. But since it was years since the initial release of the game and all of us had more than enough time to calm down a bit, I think it's a good time to look back for a bit and think. Was Sacred 3 really that bad? Let's find out.

The original Sacred was a blast. Not only it was one of the most ambitious games in the genre (up to this day nobody ever tried to create such a huge ARPG, as long as we're not talking “online only” stuff), it was also one of those rare cases when ambitions didn't lead to the failure. It was a huge game taking place in open world environment. And it was good. Sure, the balance was all over the place but the game wasn't about balance. It was about pure ARPG fun in a scale that never been shown before. Well, technically it was but you know what I mean. We're talking Diablo here, not The Faery Tale Adventure. Not only the world in Sacred was huge, it also looked beautiful, had a nice handmade feeling and there were tons of quests to complete. Naturally, as the result, it ended up being a big hit. Press loved it, players loved it, there were novels, merchandise and so on.

Naturally, everybody expected a lot from sequel. And it sure promised a lot. The game got proper 3D visuals, there were versions for actual gaming consoles, while soundtrack came with an exclusive track from legendary band Blind Guardian whose members even appeared in a game with their own quest that led to some sort of in-game concert. Unfortunately, this time ambitions did lead the developers into a trap and the game turned out to be... let's just say it wasn't that great. And not only because setting didn't feel the same thanks to all the machinery stuff that was added. It's like nothing felt fun anymore. 3D environment didn't feel nearly as satisfying as 2D one, the new leveling system where monsters grew up with you (only up to the certain point but still) didn't feel right, the quests weren't nearly as good... It was one of those games that were unable to be nearly as good as their predecessors. And, of course, there were bugs. Tons of them. Tons and tons of bugs... But it's not like series didn't have any future. Quite the opposite. Sacred 3 had all the chances to save it. Unfortunately, some “brilliant” mind at Deep Silver decided to give the series... a modern look. I mean, who cares about big worlds and quests, right? The kids nowadays? They're all about quick co-op sessions!

And it's kind of fun because even more famous series ended up suffering from the same exact statistics-based mistake. I'm talking, of course, about Command & Conquer. Can't call myself a big fan of Command & Conquer 3, but hey! At least it was something. And then boom! EA decided to give the series a “fresh” look and... yeah. We've all seen C&C 4. But you know what? After finishing Sacred 3 today, I can't say it's especially terrible. For what it is? It's totally playable. Sure, it's just a short series of the co-op maps that feel exactly the same. Sure, the setting was altered again and the game began to feel more like Borderlands than the original Sacred. And sure, the gameplay was turned from a proper ARPG experience into something from Xbox Live Arcade. You know... a bloody Castle Crashers. But at the same time, it looked spectacular (even today, it looks pretty competitive) and if all you need is a quick co-op fun for a half of an hour? Well, let's just say I've seen worse. Way worse. Wa-a-a-ay worse.

But here's a question for you, Deep Silver. Why did you call it Sacred 3? See, not so long before it, there was another co-op game in Sacred universe. It was called Sacred Citadel and guess what? Nobody hated it. Sure, nobody loved it but... you know. Nobody hated it. And heck, I don't even think that J2ME version of the first game was that bad. But you called it “Sacred 3 and advertised it as the next big thing. And that's where the problem lies. Just because Sacred 3 is not the next big thing for the series. Heck, it isn't even a proper Sacred title. Like Command & Conquer 4 is not a proper Command & Conquer. But call it a spin off? And a lot of pain will instantly disappear. I mean... let's just admit it, we survived Tiberian Alliances and Command & Conquer Rivals. Sure we can survive something like this. And like I didn't mind playing through Sacred Citadel, I can't say I hated Sacred 3 much.

Sure, I can't say I liked it. And I sure can't call it a good game (we'll return to it a bit later). But as a short and dumb co-op-oriented spin-off? I can't say it's the worst thing ever. You have a friend, some beer (make it a lot of beer) and a free weekend? You can actually have some fun here. And with present day price tag of $14.99 / £10.99 for the full version with all DLC included? It really isn't that bad. Especially when it's on sale. The fact that some people are actually still playing it is a nice example of how this game works fine as a cheap spin-off.

On the other hand, even if we'll consider Sacred 3 as a cheap spin-off, it's still far from being good game. It's one of those titles that you get on sale for a couple of bucks and play when you have nothing else on your account. Willingly selecting it as your next co-op experience is... arguable. To say the least. It's short, the entire game is just a bunch of tiny little maps and all of those maps feel exactly the same. Lack of enemy types, lack of strategy, lack of variety, lack of... everything. That's pretty much what Sacred 3 is all about. But still, the biggest crime of this game is not the fact that it's a dull co-op-oriented experience but the way it's advertised. Dixi.

Compared to Sacred 1 or 2 that were sort of rogue-like sandbox RPGs on huge maps (hello Diablo) and at times had completely hilarious stories, Sacred 3 relies only on the game world as heritage and none on the mechanics of preceeding Sacred games. As so, it is not a real Sacred game. Still it is a quite okay simple hack'n'slash, it is shiny pretty and fast, the story is not bad and it is fun to play. It is just a completely different game from what made Sacred games what they are.

I like it it, it is very good with a controller. But like others have said, it is NOTHING like its predecessors (QQ) and almost should have a completely different title. The only reaason the reviews are bad is because people were expecting an open world rpg experience similar to Sacred 1&2 (Trust me so was I, and was also very very angry) but it is well made and good for what it is if you can put that aside.

if you haven”t played the other sacred games and like action rpg”s this is the game for you. Altough this game doesn”t have loot it always has 2 branching paths for one of the following skills, weapon and armor every time you level up witch makes it very replayable, and every few levels you will get a visual change in costume and weapon too. The characters are diferent enough to make you wanna try them all, this game definately doesn”t deserve all the hate. It has beautiful art style and an unique charm that made me buy it twice, first i had it on ps3 when it first came out and later bought it on pc too.

It is not a bad game if it wasn't named Sacred. I think thats the main reason of hatred it gets. Well its a mistake to be named as Sacred 3 afterall. It could be a fun spin off game you could play with your friends and just killing some goblins around and storming through levels.
It is not a good game though, despite of its good animations, it has so little to offer in terms of choices. And i dont mean skills and all that. Game is soo not ambitious. Only if it could offer more variety of items, choices and not cheesy dialogs it wouldnt have gotten so much hate. Just by giving a charge aspect to left click, and having a combo ability would have made things better. Biggest mistake made by the developers is that they target young audience (10-15 yrs old kids mostly) However, what actually gave Sacred its franchise value was the people who were 15 in Sacred 1 and now they are 30+. Wrong business decision and a good game idea went in vain. Funnily, this is the main benchmark for Hades, the game of the year. This is probably the first real tryout of an ARPG game being not a clone of classic Diablo and loot stuff, but focusing mostly actions. Hades did it in a very good way and just giving players more choices, more depth and certainly better dialogs.

So much to talk here and there but definitely its sad to see a giant franchise crawl. Hopefully, THQ Nordic will make a remaster to add some more content and change a lot of stuff. (No need if its gonna be another Kingdoms of Amalur remaster which isnt a remaster at all.)

Here is a short review for some aspects of the game if anyone needs,

Story/Lore: 6/10
Writing/Dialogs: 2/10
Art Design/Animations: 8/10
Skills/Customizations: 5/10
Classes/Replayability: 7/10
Combat Physics: 7/10
Fun Factor (if you already dont hate the game): 7/10
Overall: 6/10

Surely a buy on a sale (which happens a lot).

Look. LOOK! Some of the voiceovers are SUPER annoying, but other than that this is a good game. People really need to chill about this. I haven't played the previous games in the series so maybe people are review-bombing this that reason, but as someone who hasn't played those games I really don't care.

Where this game really shines is the combat (and one of the main reasons why I'm recommending the game). You get the option of roll dodging (with a small amount of invulnerability frames) or using a block ability to negate damage. There also a bash ability that removes enemy shields, disables traps, and stops enemies' special attacks.

You also have 2 different special attacks active at one time (with 4 of each type to choose from - number might vary depending on which character you choose) and a regular attack that is upgradeable. I'm using a normal attack with my ranger that heals energy and health which each attack. There are 6 classes/characters to choose from (not sure why store page only says 4)

One thing that sets this game apart from other ARPGs (Diablo-style games) is support for controller. Maybe some PC master race people will scoff at this, but some people prefer this style and I have chronic pain in my hands so controller is the only way I can play. I own some other ones that support controller (Victor Vran, Overlord, and Van Helsing), but those you only play one character whereas this you have 4 classes to choose from.

One downside is lack of character customization compared to a game like Grim Dawn. There are several abilities, but your chance at choosing new ones or upgrading current ones is restricted by character level so there isn't much choice in the beginning.

There also isn't any loot which definitely is a downside and further restricts character customization. I will say that the amount of loot in other games like Grim Dawn actually detract from gameplay due to how much time you have to spend sort through everything. Hopefully games in the future will find a way to balance this so that getting loot is exciting and not a chore, but removing loot altogether isn't the answer.

One thing that surprised me is that multiplayer is on by default so a random player hopped into my game. There is a way to disable this if you want to play solo. There's also local co-op which is a very cool feature (assuming you actually have friends IRL).

Great action hack and slash game. Played it solo, still really enjoyed it. Similar to the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games (which I really liked).

Bought this on sale. Really terrified at how bad this is:

1. No saving on checkpoints, you have to restart the WHOLE level if you quit in the middle.
2. Terrible voice acting
3. Terrible humour in dialogues
4. Boring repetetive combat
5. Rebooted my computer in the end of the first mission. I had no motivation to start over from the beginning.

Avoid at ALL costs!!!

This game is basically the last thing to do before the end of the world, so there is no point in reviewing it.
I'll just paste a link to The Apocalypse of St. John and remove this shit from my Steam library.

It's nothing like the first two games. Played once, never touched again.

Got it solely for the fact that it has local co-op and not disapointed so far. Too many similar games scrap local co-op / splitscreen from their PC versions. Rather simple hack n' slash so far but gameplay is good and there's some challenge. No loot, only gold. Definitely recomended for those seeking couch co-op fun with a buddy or family.
