Sudden Strike 4 erstreckt sich über drei umfangreiche Kampagnen auf den Schlachtfeldern des Zweiten Weltkriegs.

Als Kommandeur der alliierten, deutschen oder sowjetischen Streitkräfte, führen Sie über 100 verschiedene Einheiten in die Schlacht; darunter der deutsche Bomber Heinkel He111, der russische T-34-Panzer, das britische Hawker Typhoon Kampfflugzeug und der berüchtigte deutsche Panzerkampfwagen VI "Tiger".

Erstmals in Sudden Strike wählen Sie einen von neun unterschiedlichen Kommandeuren, wie zum Beispiel George Patton oder Bernard Montgomery, die jeweils vollkommen unterschiedliche Strategien ermöglichen und sich einzigartige Fähigkeiten zunutze machen.

Beweisen Sie Ihre strategische Expertise in über 20 fordernden Einzelspieler-Szenarios, dem herausfordernden Gefechts-Modus und dem überaus anspruchsvollen Mehrspieler-Modus via LAN und Internet.

Id love to recommend this game because its really really good. It allows a lot of Micromanagement and you can select every unit individually

BUT sometimes it doesnt matter how good you play you have to follow the red line the game set out for you or you fail.

If you enjoy reenacting WW2 battles this game is for you but if you hope you can develop your own strategies and decied on wich units to take into battle, stay away or buy it on sale

Very good game! Strategy gamer's is a must to play SS4!

Gefällt mir besser als Blitzkrieg 3. Ich wunder mich nur dass es so wenig Inhalte dafür gibt. Schade, an sich klasse Spiel.

An und für sich ein gutes Spiel, nur das hin -und her-Geschicke auf dem Schlachtfeld nervt gewaltig. Schlüsselposition hier, Schlüsselposition dort. Absurd !

Eines der besten Echtzeitstrategiespiele auf dem Markt. Auszusetzen habe ich nur, dass man nie genau weiß wie viele Punkte zum nächsten Stern fehlen, bzw. wie viele Punkte die einzelnen Medallien wert sind. Skirmish/Scharmützel kann mich leider auch nicht komplett überzeugen da man nicht alle Einheitentypen herstellen kann bzw. geliefert bekommen kann, dadurch wird dieser Spielmodus ziemlich schnell vom Gameplay her. Abgesehen davon überzeugt mich das Spiel aber auf ganzer Linie, Die Grafik ist super, die Steuerung der Einheiten ist intuitiv und die Aufgaben sowie der Schwierigkeitsgrad passen auch gut zum Spiel. Von mir eine Absolute Empfehlung.

Toll, das alte Sudden Strike macht auch in der Neuauflage immer noch Spaß und schaut auch fesch aus und spielt sich gängig. Wer RTS im 2 WK mag, der ist hier richtig. Ist gemütlicher als ein CoH aber natürlich weit schneller und actionlastiger als nun ein Hearts of Iron.

Die besten Teile sind für mich aber nach wie vor Teil 1 und Teil 2. Ich würde sogar dem Lizenzhalter anraten beim Sudden Strike 5 wieder mehr in Richtung 2D Optik (das wirkt einfach gut, als ob man als General drüber steht) und Massenschlachten, mit den alten Mechaniken zu gehen. Sudden Strike 4 ist eher ein Codename Panzers als ein Sudden Strike, was nicht nicht schlecht sein muß.

Sehr gut gemachtes, spannendes Echtzeit-Strategie-Spiel. Das Hauptspiel habe ich als Heftbeilage in einem bekannten Computerspiele-Magazin bekommen. Meistens sind diese Spiele die als Bonus auf der Heft-DVD enthalten sind ehe Mittelmaß, aber Sudden Strike 4 hat von Anfang an gefallen. Ich habe mir darauf hin mit und mit alle verfügbaren DLCs gekauft und und bereue es nicht. Der Spielspass ist auch bei mehrmaligem durchspielen der Kampagnen nach wie vor gegeben. Ich kann das Spiel jedem der Echtzeit-Strategie mag nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Wer auf nicht so schnelle Stategiespiele steht, dem kann ich dieses Spiel absolut empfehlen. Viel Aufklärung mit Infantarie und dann mit Artillerie in Schutt und Asche schießen. Eindrucksvolle Panzerschlachten gibt es auch. Dazu eine ansehnliche Grafik und Physik Engine. Absolut Top.

Ein würdiger Nachfolger!

Grafik: 9/10 - Es hat einen sehr realistischen 3D Look, die Einheiten und Umgebungen sind detailliert und komplett zerstörbar.

Sound: 10/10 - Ich wüsste nicht was man sich hier mehr wünschen könnte. Die Geräuschkulisse ist satt, abwechslungsreich und es gibt auch keine nervigen Sounds oder penetrante EInheitensprüche.

Gameplay: 8/10 - Es ist ein Echtzeittaktikspiel - und das ist es nahezu perfekt. Die Spielmechaniken greifen sehr gut in einander, die Balance zwischen Mikro- und Makromanagement stimmt durchweg. Die Situationen sind stets fair und machbar, auch wenn man ebenfalls mal ordentlich scheitern kann.

Umfang:
7/10 - 4 Kampagnen, Skirmish-Modus und einige DLC. Prinzipiell eine Menge zu tun. Die Missionen sind auch gut gestaltet, jedoch ohne nennenwerte Story. Aber das braucht Sudden Strike auch nicht.

Entspannte Echtzeitstrategie mit Pause-Funktion. Früher habe ich auch COH etc. gespielt, aber das ist mir mittlerweile zu hektisch. Grafik ist okay, KI für mich ausreichend mit vielen geskripteten Ereignissen in den Mission. Wirklich klassisches Spielgefühl.

Bestes Spiel der Sudden-Strike-Reihe ist und bleibt Sudden Strike 2 mit RWM-Mod 6.8.
Spielen kann man Sudden Strike 2 übers Netzwerk bzw. auch übers Internet bis Windows 10 64 Bit mit dem entsprechenden Tools und Einstellungen.

Da gibt es viel mehr Möglichkeiten strategisch aktiv zu werden - und das macht die mindere Grafikqualität bei Weitem weg.

Sudden Strike 4 kann trotz zeitgemäßer Grafik im Gameplay nicht wirklich punkten. Zudem finde ich das Schadensmodell von Fahrzeugen und Einheiten nur durchschnittlich gut. Das Spiel erinnert mich mehr an Company of Heroes oder Blitzkrieg anstatt an Sudden Strike.

This isn’t an RTS. It is a ‘gather a bunch of soldiers and runs into the field of war’ arcade gameplay. There isn’t any tactical merit to this game. What we have is, is a Company of Heroes (CoH) wannabe trying to be just as successful as them. The problem is it lacks tactical depths. There is no hiding behind buildings or inside the artillery-made holes, lack of useful formations, or even resource management.

I figured I’d give another RTS a try, but this was a mistake. It didn’t matter which doctrine I choose, or how far I placed that officer up in front to get the advantage to see the enemy; they would always see me before then. It didn’t matter which campaign I played (the factions), the enemy always saw me first. With the officer, the game claims they can see the farthest compared to any other unit. Yea, okay, at least be honest about your crappy mechanics. The Fog of War is outrageously horrible in Sudden Strike 4. It does a weird fazing in and out instead of just showing the units suddenly or vanishing. This makes it where they see your units first.

Another flaw is how bad pathfinding is. Why do I have to argue with the tank that I want you to face in the direction of West and it continues to face East or tries to back up or play merry-go-around? Atrocious and they should be ashamed for even shipping this out.

I may be nit-picky but if the game mechanics are the main things of any game and they fail to deliver, the rest of the game goes into the dumpster fire.

There are some good things to the game too. The music was well done and I enjoyed the WW2 footage and history notes that it provided. I always enjoy this type of additional information added into games and not enough games do this, so I’ll give them props for that one.

The game didn’t feel fun by any means. It was like doing laundry and you wanted to get it done, but hate doing it. Well, I threw the clothes into the garbage and this game went with it.

Only finished the Allies, German, and Soviet Campaign. I would have liked to finish the others, but the game just felt out of place and I didn't care for it any longer. No Multiplayer and Skirmish is very bland.

Thanks for the continuation of the legendary SUDDEN STRIKE series of games, the masterpiece game is very pleasing, especially in the era of action games and shooters. The game turned out to be very interesting and the storyline is very interesting. More strategies are rare these days.

So far so good, no complaints. Easy to learn fundamentals fairly quickly, but probably take awhile to get good at moving, attacking, repairing, refueling, resupplying, etc., all at the same time. On sale, this is a steal and worth full price. Very happy I picked this up.

Well the game even without DLC's is pretty long. Getting all the stars on the 3 first campaings can be really difficult but I had a lot of fun doing them (well i didn't finished the Soviet yet). Adding the DLC's you are getting more campaings and more missions with challenges. The skirmish mode is fine but I didn't use it much. Well I hope we will get more DLC's because in my opinion the modding community is kinda dead...

I would like to be able to recommend this game. It comes very, i mean very close to being good modern sudden strike strike game. Although I really quite like a lot of the new infantry abilities and survival, the line of sight is very good also well however, the short ranges compared to the original sudden strike games really take the seriousness out of combat(was mainly line of sight based). The short ranges result in battles that look a lot like early 2000's rts battles (units pile on top of each other etc), this robs sudden strike of one of its best qualities which was large scale combined arms(arty could fire from also one side of the map to the other, it was inaccurate but helped soften things up). Multiplayer works well enough but the maps often don't take advantage of the cool infantry mechanics and only some of the generals are available (really would have liked to play Giovanni messe).

Bought this game on sale which is the only way you should purchase this game. Pretty impressive graphics and art work. The campaigns are pretty cool. However, the game cannot stand up to the WW2 RTS giants. This game literally just makes me want to go play COH2 - which I am now going to do. The combat mechanics here are simply not as good, the game is fairly arcadey and not very impressive. The way units engage enemies is boring and very simplistic. The cover system is virtually non-existent as unit just lye on the ground and shoot at each other. Armored combat is also simplistic and boring. TLDR this is a slightly better browser game, the combat mechanics are boring and there are better WW2 RTS'S. Go buy MOW2 or COH2

Liked the concept of the game, loved the historical details and the settings. But the game itself, in some aspects, wasn't realistic enough; like the tank doesn't even have machine guns, and it takes a few rounds just to destroy an infantryman. The artillery fires extremely short. The supply unit works semi-automatically. Many say it's the balance system, but when people speak of Sudden Strike or even Blitzkrieg, first thing comes to the mind is a realistic battlefield. Go call another name, Fast Beat or Instant Hit whatsoever, a good brand ruined already.

Beware! If you love the original Sudden Strike(as I do) you will most likely be disappointed.

My main reason to recommend is the price. I bought it for about 3-4euros and I eventually played it over 70hours.
It's a decent strategy game but as I said it's NOT a Sudden Strike game. As many said before me it's much more arcade-style. Don't expect those merciless missions where you could spent dozen of hours cutting through the enemy lines as in the original. You won't find them in here.
And even though it doesn't have the true SS essence I'm glad we got this game especially In today's endless pool of open world/survival/battle royale games.
The game isn't flawless. The biggest flaw I encountered is a glitch when you are unable to resupply your units....

As I said, If you want to play a decent WW2 strategy game - go for it. The best choice is to pick it on a sale and you should be okay.

Probably the worst game ever. Support next to useless, crashes on launch every single time.

Garbage support suggested that app protection option when Citrix Workspace was installed creates this issue. Tried a re-install ensuring this was deselected. Same issue.

This has been a problem for years over many devices not just one. One for these guys to address if they reckon they know the issue as was pointed out to me!

Avoid this horrible game and ensure the dev team do not make any more games.

Real trash.

Well, basically, the game is ok, simple and fun, like the series itself
However, probably just me can't find or don't know the skills, but can recover tank's health bar.
You can fix the tanks critical parts, but you can't recover the tank health.
That is the only down part for me. Otherwise the game is good

There are many great things about this game, the sound effects are great!
American accent on german officers not so cool..

graphics are almost ok and the big problem with this game is the AI and line of sight (for some reason the AI has longer

line of sight) .. that messes up the harmony of gameplay and the reinforcements and controlpoint system dont feel right..

Last i want to say that the game wasnt cheap and when i opened it - i have to pay to play as finland italy or jpn!!
I felt betrayed..lol.

It is a ok game all in all but i cant recommend it as it is now.

Amazing game. Great detail historically. A more detailled North African campaign would be a great addition and more of the defence of Italy e.g. the invasion of Sicily, Cassino, Anzio.Overall though, absolutely no complaints. A must for historical gamers.

I remember playing Sudden Strike when I was a child. My memories are distant, I don't remember all the details. The only thing I do remember is that the game was hard af. I can confidently say that this game will make your brain hurt. I just finished the German campaign and the last mission seemed impossible. Extremely scrappy, every unit counts, everything ,matters. But I strategized well, applied my full brain power and beat it with many units remaining, getting all 3 stars. Feels like I'm back in the childhood. Def recommend.

Bought during a sale, thought that it would revive some nostalgia in me back when I used to play SS on my PlayStation 2

Ended up being bored and sad that this game was bad.
The game is rather too simplistic and boring compared to its predecessors, too little content and most of it are just paid DLC which I don't like at all

It's not the most in-depth or tactical WW2 RTS, but I love it for its variety of unique locations you don't see in most WW2 games, including the Finnish Winter War, and the Dunkirk evacuation. Looks quite good, has a nice variety of units and great sound.

Enemies can see further that you (?), so missions just seem to be:

1. Place your infantry in a field, prone, while holding fire
2. The infantry sports a tank, that your own tanks can't, despite everyone being in a field
3. Have tanks (though most likely artillery) shell the tanks

Pathfinding is bad (units getting stuck), units sometimes just don't respond to commands, etc. etc.

Good Strategy Game (plays like Sudden Strike 1&2 with updated graphics)

There is only one problem that I have encountered with the AI: If you attack enemy forces with artillery (towed artillery, SPG's or assault guns), they mostly do not react (Vehicles sometimes drive circles). If you attack them with anything other than that, you get pushed hard.
I'm no military expert, therefore cant tell if you can/should sit out artillery bombardment, but this makes no sense gameplay-wise. [spoiler]In most missions, you scout ahead with some infantry units and let your artillery bombard the enemy until there is nothing left. Since your supply trucks usually have more than enough shells, you can simply crawl forward, bombarding everything in your way. This method takes alot of time, but puts you at no risk at all.[/spoiler]

On a sidenote: If you consider buying this game, get the complete package. The DLC missions are so much better than the original campaign. They are much more diverse and sometimes include little in-game cinematics and introduce new gameplay-mechanics (e.g. the Pacific DLC introduces Napalm Units and has two unique Naval missions.)

To the Sudden Strike Devs,

I played this game because I really enjoyed Desert Rats vs Afrika Korps and D-Day by Monte Cristo. This game feels like a better optimised spiritual successor to those games.
The only thing I'd really like to see is some kind of deck building/army customisation feature for Skirmish/Multiplayer - I think this would add hugely to the game's replayability and stimulate the multiplayer experience.
I would finally like to congratulate Kalypso on a fantastic RTS game that I've thoroughly enjoyed so far.

Unfortunately the comments are either YES or NO . There is no MAYBE or like a 5.5 or 6 out of 10 score.

ON the plus side , some of the campaigns are really tough . The US campaign in the main game especially the battle of Saipan and Iwo Jima are really tough. So too the Hurtgen Forest campaign in Europe. The gameplay is pretty much easy without referring to an operating manual - one can get the grasp of the hot keys pretty soon.

On the down side - The most annoying thing is the size of the units. In the long gone days of multiple CDs I had played Sudden Strike 2 and the same annoying features are there . Mainly if I don't group the infantry properly they get left behind and all i can see is a lone green dot somewhere in the battllefied far behind while all my main troops are near the front line. This has not changed over the years. Artillery support is not easy to call in even though there is an icon that says as such .

Overall I would give this about 5.5 out of 10 . Being a WW2 game we know pretty much whats going to happen in all the campaigns and there are no historically different results.; Its all click point watch .

Very fun WW2 strategy game. The variety of units and scale of battles makes this more enjoyable than other strategy games out there. Much less micromanagement compared to Company of Heroes, or Men of War. If you like old titles like Codename Panzers Phases I & II or Blitzkrieg, then this will feel very similar (and in a good way). Highly recommended!

If you are new to Sudden Strike like me, definitely recommand you to try it. I played 90 hours and enjoy every bits of it. (I bought the complete package with all DLC on a sale)

A lot of negative comments here are related to historical reasons, if you have fresh eyes, those reasons won't be a problem to you.

Ever wanted to steamroll the allies as Germany? Liberate Europe as the allies? control iconic troopers and tanks of WWII? Sudden Strike 4 is the game for you, sure it doesn't really hold a candle to games like Company of Heroes but the game is fun and it's rather impressive in terms of realism and historical accuracy. I rarely ever see bugs or glitches and the only thing really inaccurate for the German campaign is M26 Pershings popping up in missions like Battle of the Bulge when M26 never arrived until early 1945, but to give the devs some credit it's to really balance out the mission so the Germans don't steamroll the allies in 10 minutes. The only real extremely hard mission is the Berlin mission for the Soviets where a second historical inaccuracy comes up, TIGERS lots of Tigers in Berlin when in real life the last ever Tiger was actually knocked out by the Americans and British in Western Germany, there were a handful of Panthers and some captured tanks at the Battle of Berlin but I think the appearance of Tigers is mainly for balancing so the Soviets don't completely bulldoze the Germans in an easy few minutes. Another thing to note is there is no base building in single player what you start out with and the backup you get later on is what you get, in multiplayer you capture railway stations to build up your units.

As someone who is just mildly interested in WW2 but has a lot of friends that are actually interested in WW2,
I can say without a doubt that I still can't tell the difference between Panzer IIIs and Panzer IVs even when my friends point out the differences.

7/10 would still accidentally send my repair vehicle instead of my infantry truck next to a KV-2 again

This game started off okay and fun but the more I played it the more dull and boring predictable it became. There is nothing to this game, you just spam attack with tanks if you have them, infantry are useless, whether garrisoned in building or not. There is absolutely no cover system for the infantry either, thus rendering them worthless. There is no base building aspect so the game just gives you units as you progress through the mediocre levels and you use them en masse to overwhelm the boring enemy. It astounds me how strategy WWII games don't attempt to take after classics like Axis & Allies (2004) and Company of Heroes, both 1 and 2. This game does not, following in the footsteps of so many sorry attempted WWII strategy games. It seems like a cheap lazy version of those aforementioned games so if your a casual fan maybe this is for you. Otherwise you're better spending your money elsewhere and hope somebody can re-capture those glory days of WWII strategy games.

This is not the game I played when I was a kid. Not serious as it was before. Feels bad for game development creating more and more arcade looking games behind the curtain of the masterpiece on the old stage.

Being my introduction into the Sudden Strike series, I really liked this! The game and its DLCs are more than worth it if you're a classic WW2 RTS fan. The only frame of reference I have for this game is actually the first couple Blitzkrieg games, of which I'm a huge fan of.

The campaigns for this game feel great to play, with having mulitple General perk trees to level up the more stars you earn per mission. I don't think there is a front of WW2 that this game doesn't actually cover, with the Pacific, North Africa, West & East Europe, and even the Finnish Winter War, and early to late war for all of the campaigns. Actually, upon typing this I realize that one of the few fronts that I can recall /aren't/ covered is the Italian Front with the Invasion of Sicily or the Battle of Crete. Other than that, yeah this covers it all if I remember right.

It's very arcade-y and no Company of Heroes in terms of gameplay, thats for sure. But I would say if you're a fan of RTS games, and especially if you're a fan of WW2 games, give it a shot! Its a lot of fun. A lot of my hours for this game were actually from before I owned it on Steam, but my saves carried over from before so I would say I actually got a good 40-50 hours from this one.

Very good game play. Graphic and size of soldiers, tanks, buildings etc are realistically proportional (unlike Company of Heroes). Looking forward to more new games. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Enjoying this game! Feels right and is well thought out with all the bells and whistles. I 'd say a real gem of ww II games. It looks alot like codename panzers games and is a pleasure to play a game where you don't have to farm or earn your force to advance. The main menu is one of the nicest I've seen with movie playing scenes! Great game

Although the trailer and videos show large blobs of units attack-moving another large blob of units, that is a false depiction of what Sudden Strike traditionally really comes down to: micromanagement and careful coordination of your troops.

In both the Campaign and the Multiplayer you start with a small group of units determined by your Commander. Unless you achieve objectives, you are not getting reinforcements. There are no construction options, no structures and no resources other than fuel and ammo from Supply Trucks and crates.

Something new in the SS4 Campaign is that you are rewarded with medals for completing missions efficiently, which you can spend on perks and traits for your units in future missions.

In multiplayer you can purchase troops with a currency called 'prestige' which you can acquire through the prestigious act of capturing a point.

After being very disappointed with SS3, fans of Sudden Strike wanted a modernized version of SS1/2. We got SS4 and everyone started complaining about how 'arcade' it feels and how 'unrealistic' it is. Those complaints influenced my purchase, and I waited for a sale. Having actually played it thoroughly I have to conclude that I'm happily surprised.

It looks pretty good, the missions are fun and plentiful, the nations and locations are varied. My biggest complaints are the voice-overs (the overly Americanized commander voice for the Germans is just laughable) and the map-editor requiring a degree in Unity. The multiplayer has both the zeppelin mode from SS1/2 as well as the new prestige mode, but it's dead (probably never lived) even though its actually pretty good if you can find an opponent.

If you like strategy games you owe it to yourself to try the Sudden Strike series. You can skip SS3 though, it was a real tragedy. SS4 did not live up to the hype, but it's certainly not bad. In my opinion, the artillery barrage of negative reviews was unwarranted.

Game-play doesn't feel 'sudden' at all - the only way to avoid getting destroyed is to use crawling infantry to reveal the sight lines, and then use mortar/tanks to kill from a distance. Limited infantry numbers makes this incredibly difficult. Rush tactics don't seem to work at all. BUT, having said all that, it is a pretty decent game. Not ground breaking, but it is enjoyable.

WARNING: If you are coming from playing games like Blitzkrieg and Sudden Strike, lower those expectations with this game.

To be fair, Sudden Strike 4 is some how a disappointment for me. The scale of the game has been torn down, in the matter of battles felling more like skirmishes. The size of the maps are smaller and divided in to scripted zones. Gone are the big open maps, with a set of objectives to be archived, leaving you the freedom to approach them. Mechanics have been removed or blocked behind skill trees, like for example officers using binoculars for scouting enemy positions (removed) or digging in tanks and field guns (skill tree blocked). I miss new mechanics being added, like engineer trucks digging trenches, laying/cleaning mine fields or infantry units being able to form in squads and break in to individual units. To be honest the game feels more like a mixed between Code Name Panzers and Company of Heroes, which is not a bad thing, but lets to be desired.

Back in the 2004 Code Name Panzers Phase One offered 30 campaign missions (Wehrmacht 12, Soviets 9, Allies 9) for 14,99€ and Code Name Panzers Phase Two offered 20 campaign missions (Wehrmacht 8, Allies 8, Partisan 4) for 9,99€. This game was over priced in it's day at 39,99€ and even now it still feel a bit over priced at 19,99€, with only 24 campaign missions (Wehrmacht 7, Soviets 7, Allies 7 and 3 bonus).
The DLC's are insultingly over priced. Battle of Kursk, a bloody skirmish map for 1,99€!? Road to Dunkirk, a campaign with four bloody missions and two of them are the same map at 9,99€ (half the cost of the main game, mind you)! Finland: Winter Storm, a campaign with 6 bloody mission and two of them, again, are the same map at 9,99€ (half the cost of the main game, insulting)! Africa: Desert War, yet again, a campaign with 6 bloody missions at 9,99€ (half the cost of the main game, no way). And The Pacific War, a campaign with teen missions and two of them, once again, are the same map at 19,99€ (costing as much as the main game WTF). A soldier carrying a Type 92 HMG, with a weight of 55 Kg, on it's back!? Even though fleet skirmishes were a nice addition, the models and armaments are VERY inaccurate. What it seems to be a Takao-class heavy cruiser, with NO torpedo 4x4 launchers!? And Shokaku and Zuikaku carriying 40 guns, 15 fighters, 15 dive bombers and 15 torpedo bombers; when they should be carrying 52 guns (16x dual purpose guns and 36x anti-aircraft guns), 18 fighters, 27 dive bombers and 27 torpedo bombers.

Code Name Panzers Phase One and Two, both games little over 16 years old, offers you much more content, while asking you the same price this game has. Absolutely awful and greedy pricing, preying on the nostalgic name of Sudden Strike, but not surprising from Kalipso Media.

Only worth buying on sale for 50% discount or more.

I love this game. I played the original Sudden Strike and still own it, but it no longer works with modern PC's I keep it for sentimental value because I spent so many hours playing the original. This game does not disappoint. I love the updated graphics but it retains the play mechanics that I loved from the original.

I also own company of heroes 1 and 2 while I love those games I have a preference for this game a lot more, it is a slower paced game and takes more planning to work out your strategy giving you a greater sense of command over your troops and resources, unlike Company of Heroes you have to be more judicious with your resources and man power.

It is a great game and I simply cannot give it enough praises.

It was a fun game up until the Finnish campaign where there is only 3 missions.
I'd recommend it because its the only WW1 RTS I know of where you can play as the Italians and Finland.
If you've played Men of War you'll be familiar as they also hit you supply trucks.
If you put your infantry into trenches they don't last very long.
Sometimes you can't see enemy tanks shooting at you through the fog of war.

Honestly, some of the worst AI and pathfinding i've seen from a strategy game in recent years. It makes the horrid pathfinding on C&C 1 look amazing. Units will always look for the shortest line to get from point A to point B, even if there's a wall or another unit there and it is super frustrating to micromanage every move.

AI is nothing to write home about as well, enemies and friendly units chose targets without logic - You have a rifleman one side and a tank destroy on another? the enemy tank will choose to target the rifleman and will go after him if you try to escape while your tank destroyer pounds him.
You are attacking an enemy stronghold? expect your friendly tanks to stop firing on AT defenses and focus on enemy scattered infantry who pose no threat at all.

First of all I am a Sudden Strike fan even since first game came out. I have played and enjoyed countless hours of it, and Sudden Strike 4 really is a Sudden Strike game, even if the game mechanics did changed a lot (mostly for better) , it kept the old spirit. I have played some skirmish 3 v 3 and am having trouble beating the AI (still don't know why :) need to practice a bit more )
But the campaign is something that really impressed me. Don't get me wrong it still is a Sudden Strike campaign don't expect storytelling that other ww2 games have, but the gameplay and mission objectives , and unexpected enemy counter attacks keeps me wanting more.
I have yet to learn to play this game correctly, until I dive in multiplayer.

No time-limits to complete any level you're on. Lots of different factions to pick, and what makes this game even more cool is the fact you're not forced to complete any factions set of levels in one go...you can quit back to the main menu and pick another one any time you wish! I do have a few wish-list suggests, but this game is a bit old now...so... if you are reading this (have no idea who made this game) feel free to email me or message me for more info! Overall this game is well WORTH THE BUY, even more so if you're like me, a big fan of Command and Conquer!

I'm so surprised how very good this game is. I rather stupidly was put off by alpha and beta feedback (I should know better) and wasn't even tempted to buy the game until the heavily discounted sale was put on recently. Having now played it I am pretty impressed and will now get the expansions.

I really hope this game gets the credit it now deserves. Whether it was poor or not at the start, it is always unfair to base final opinions on a game based on the beta material. Clearly this is a labour of love for the Devs as they have done whatever was needed to get this to be a top class RTS.

It's not bad but it's not terribly good either. It's very arcadeish and a bit shallow. I guess this is more like the old Blitzkrieg then Sudden Strike, yet even those were better.

- Bad Line of Sight. It's only in a circle around units. You can't aim LOS or improve it with binoculars or something. Officers and scouts were crucial in SS. Now they are mostly useless.
- The maps are quite small.
- Unit responsiveness is average. Sometimes they just don't listen.
- You can't repair tanks [ which is ok, but since their sight and shooting range is really small you can't make use of your tanks in a normal way except to rush arcade like and leave alot to chance. Thats not tactics, it's just stupid. ]
- The pathing is terrible as your units frequently hit each other unless you send them one by one.
- Infantry is mostly useless unless as meatshields/scouts for your tanks and you only have a small number each mission.
[They have little health so have fun trying to throw grenades before they die.]
- The camera is also too close to the action which really restraints your viewing area for no real reason. You can't zoom out or in.
- You have no way to replenish or repair your tanks and soldiers. You can't build or buy anything. You have a really really small army.

Where are the hundreds of troops? Why is this game designed with mediocre multiplay in mind while SS really was focus on Single Play? Why can't developers just do 1 or 2 things really good instead of doing alot of things in a mediocre way...

The game tries to be CoH 2, but without base building or any troop buying system. The offmap artillery and air support is slow and only in 'lines' and is not dynamic or chasing troops in an area. It feels unresponsive and mostly useless unless the enemy is static or oblivious.

I guess we are still without a really good WW2 RTS game... again.

I think they wanted to compete with CoH multiplayer but after playing this I can say they failed miserably. CoH 2 MP eventhough I don't like it, is far superior.

The game is not all that bad, it looks and sounds good. It's just... very.... mediocre.. and frankly not better then previous WW2 games before. You can enjoy it for a few hours, but it will grow stale very fast.

It was very promising but I can't get past the first mission without the game crashing at random times, out of my entire game library I have around 2-3 games that are simply not really stable on my system. This is one of them. Unfortunately can't recommend nor can I provide a good idea on further gameplay.

Maybe not fair to leave a negative review but the crashing left a bad aftertaste!

I have been playing sudden strike games for years, it was a game that I shared with my dad. They don't make many great RTS games anymore, especially ones that can span gameplayer generations from 40 years old to 70 years old like this one does. Keep up the good work and please make more games.

Easy to learn WW2 strategy with just enough features not to be cmplicated to regular gamer. Graphics are very pretty it is always enjoyable to virtually play in WW2 on many battlefields. Shame about sometimes bad pathfinding of your tanks.

If, like me, you hate point-capture gameplay like CoH and MoW, this is the game for you.
No resource gathering, no base-building and no points for capturing a flag.
You start with a set number of units and you get reinforcements for completing objectives.
I only play solo and have tried most of the WW 2 rts games out there and the only other games i really enjoyed was Men of War series. Sudden Strike 4 is a bit like a mix of Company of Heroes and Men of War.

Brings back memories of the 2nd one which was definitely the best.
The core mechanics are the same, so a very good 4th game. If you want to play a sudden strike game with more up to date graphics, this is the 1 to play with.

Good thing first...
+ Runs on Linux OS
+ Graphics are good
+ Good units mix...

But:
- AI is super dump and just scripted for bunkering in or flanking just at some point because its dump scripted... sometimes the AI strikes back but comiting suicide.
- Most missions are to short, especially in the main campaign
- No epic battles... most battles feel like the same... fire with arty and move infantry forward backed up by tanks... sometimes you can flank the enemy if the flanks are accessable and you get through
- Multiplayer is dead (no wonder...)

The game had so much potential...

for instance:

* more dynamic AI
* more possibilities to use the infantry e.g. building sandbacks, providing further vision, PANZERSCHRECK/Bazooka against tanks???
* something like setting up radars to recognize incoming AI movements, if the AI would be improved
* More options hiding units on open terrain
* THE GAME FEELS BIT SHORT AND UNFINISHED............

Sudden Strike 4 is a game I have been waiting for my whole life! In the age of twitch gaming and esports, SS4 reminds players that real war punishes the zerg rush. This is a head scratcher of a game with each mission a puzzle which must be considered, dissected and then attacked; where your use of fire and maneuver and scouts is not only advised but crucial. I love that this game brings STRATEGY back into strategy gaming. Ambushing something FEELS like an ambush. Every level is a careful, realistic use of combined arms punctuated by fierce intense firefights! Absolute masterpiece of a game.

Excellent game for the casual gamer. Fairly straightforward to learn the basics of the game and improved your strategy when replaying. The logistics management involving fuel and ammunition is a very nice bonus, and resource conservation is essential. The graphics are most impressive with a good monitor and video card, as is the sound. Perhaps not for the die hard multi hundred hours gamer but if all you have is a few hours a week and are into 2WW with visually stunning graphics this one is hard to beat. Certainly impresses onlookers!
