The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition enthält die Vollversion Morrowind sowie die beiden Erweiterungen Bloodmoon und Tribunal.

Review zu The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind® Game of the Year Edition

Beispielsweise muss man Handschuhe separat kaufen und anziehen, was mich immens fasziniert hatte!

Contra:

So at 32 hours I finished the main quest, and what a journey it has been so far. This game is unique - it doesn't hold your hand, and the story telling is great. I'm 16 years old which means I was born in 2005 - 3 years after the game released. Despite my age I really enjoyed this, and I hope others do too. I've played Skyrim and a little bit of Oblivion, but I think Morrowind is my favourite so far. Thank you Bethesda for making a game that still holds up to the next generation.

I've played this game for 1000s of hours even though according to steam only 3 hours of playtime. I remember playing this for months and months everyday during highschool when it released. You'll be hard pressed to find a more rewarding game to play if you're willing to dive in. There are games that envelop you like Elden Ring and Skyrim for example. This game is no exception. There is a vast world to explore and unlock and many secrets to discover. One example that is a great memory of my childhood is reading books and finding the clues that may eventually lead you to a hidden faction. This game takes me back to a simpler time when google didn't immediately give up a game's secrets. A time that I'm immediately shot back to full of memories that I thought that I forgot. The nolstalgia for me, is prime time here. I hope to pass this on to you, reader. Please give this game a healthy shot and in the years to come, I'm sure you will look back on it fondly as I have for 20 years.

Could I blinded by nostalgia? Maybe, a little bit. Even tho I'm pretty sure this is by far the best TES and the best open world RPG ever made. If you actually take your time to learn a bit about the lore it's nothing short of amazing, a bit trippy at times, but it definitely blows most of the classic, boring 'high fantasy' RPGs out of the water.
Is it perfect game? By any means, no (although if you use OpenMW and don't overdo it with mods it get's pretty close). But if you give it a chance and don't get disheartened by minor inconveniences you will be greatly rewarded. See you in Morrowind, N'wah!

Morrowind is the best Bethesda game ever made, better than Oblivion and Skyrim, play it instead. N'wah! What a fool you are. I'm a god. How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive? There is no escape. No Recall or Intervention can work in this place. Come. Lay down your weapons. It is not too late for my mercy.

It is probably most unique open world i have ever seen in my gaming experience. Its totally mind blowing that you can do so much things like levitating, jumping across the whole map or else. You cant see things like that in nowadays. Yeah its outdated graphically and gameplay wise but with some mods you can make it playable easily. I say you should try it at least.

This game is unique and there is nothing quite like it, The combat and dialogue system are outdated and depend more on luck than actual talent, But the world is very immersive and it responds to every choice you make, The story is outstanding, the quests are fun and traveling through the land of Vvardenfell is a joy.

I started with Skyrim loved every moment of it then i played Oblivion and noticed all the stuff Bethesda watered down,
Then i played Morrowind and was shocked how watered and shallow Skyrim really is.....

With all the player freedom of Daggerfall mixed with the care and complexity of Oblivion and Skyrim, Morrowind is a rare gem that could be intimidating to new players, but stick with it and you will find one of the best games ever made.

After over 100 hours, several times starting afresh from Seyda Neen and a lot of YouTube and Wiki perusing, I can safely say that Morrowind has the kind of addictive gameplay you wake up thinking about.

09/10.

I cannot in good faith recommend this game to the average person. The graphs? Dogshit. The gameplay? It leaves a lot to be desired. If you were to hand this game over to someone to play, their first opinion on this game would be that it is a piece of garbage. When you first start this game, you will have no idea what the hell is going on. You will be lost and will be frustrated by almost every enemy pushing you shit in. This game has some problems.

However, once you get past this games flaws, you will find an incredibly immersive world with an intriguing story. Many of the characters blend into the settings and you get a sense of some of the politics that go on in the world. These elements carry the game for me. This is my favorite and in my opinion the best game of the Elder Scrolls franchise.

It took a long time to get into this game. After playing hundreds of hours in Oblivion and thousands of hours in Skyrim I decided to finally play the highly praised Elder Scrolls 3. So don't think this review is blinded by nostalgia. But after finally playing it for the first time I quit after a couple of hours because I didn't know where to go haha. Where was my way point? Why am I not hitting anything? I finally decided to come back a few months later. Then I finally realized how great this game is. Sure, there's no way points but Its actually kind of fun to have to follow directions to a place you've never been. I think games have kind of spoiled us with that feature. The rpg elements blow Skyrims out of the water. You can level up just about everything. You want to jump over houses? Find some scrolls and level up your acrobatics! The graphics and difficulty may turn some people off but if you enjoy Skyrim or Oblivion you are going to enjoy this game. Also, the combat in this game is based off of stats and percentages. Takes a little time to get used to but after seeing the same animation for the thousandth time, it gets a little stale. Fuck those lizard birds btw. Don't know what they're called but fuck em.

This is, in my eyes, the last good game Bethesda made. The amount of detail and intricacy put into this world feels so good. The later games pale in comparison to this masterpiece. Sure, it's outdated in some regards (namely graphics and combat), but this game still holds up as a masterclass of story telling. This is 1 of the 6 games I consider 10/10. If you are even remotely interested in this game, pick it up ASAP.

There is a lot to digest about this game. If you want a funny review about why this game is good go watch Ssethzench Morrowind. here is a quick pros and cons list.

Pros
- Crack Fiend and Rippling Physique Caius Cosades
-Magic is pretty damn fun and more immersive than Skyrim
-DLC is pretty damn rad
-I am addicted to skooma
- Funny mask

Cons
- A lot and I mean A LOT of Walking
-Getting lost

Morrowind to me was and still is the best in the series.
Don't get me wrong I still had tons of fun and many many hours in Oblivion and Skyrim and they do some things better than Morrowind (Cough: Combat: Cough)

But overall Morrowind is still the better game in my opinion.
Character development, Role playing, quests, the feeling of achievement & growth and the Whole strange Alien world with deep lore that just makes you want to Explore it!
Its something the sequels just couldn't hold on to.

Also the size, strange as it may be Morrowind just feels bigger to me, while the landscape may be smaller, in Morrowind there are more towns and cities, and they were much bigger, the first City in Morrowind has 38 building, compared to the capital city in Skyrim having only 17 buildings....
Morrowind also has 10 factions with missions, Skyrim has 4, 6 if you count the civil war sides, and in Morrowind these factions have a chapter in also almost every city in Morrowind, they are not relegated to a single building in a single city as in Skyrim.
Any way Rant over :P

If you haven't yet, and can handle the graphics :P, give it a try its a great game, Bethesda at their bests.
PS: there are mods to help with both fixing the usual Bethesda bugs and to up the graphics, UI, combat, etc to a bit more modern that really do help.

If not there is always SkyWind to hope for. :)
Every few months I check in on the SkyWind Project, the recreation of Morrowind using the Skyrim engine.
To me this would be the best of all worlds, Morrowinds lore, quests and World mixed with Skyrims graphics, combat and radiant AI.

i bought morrowind & oblivion in a bundle for extremely cheap a few years ago. just started playing morrowind in august 2021. i love how you start the game by getting off of a boat in a small town with nothing, and really with no direction. your character writes important stuff (and non-important sometimes) in his journal but other than that, you get little to no direction other than from paying close attention whenever you are talking to a npc, which brings me to the meat of the game. there are tons and tons of sidequest stuff, in addition to a lengthy main story but the game is very open ended and quite large for it's time so it takes at least a couple hundred of hours across multiple playthroughs to fully 100% this game. i realized after beating the main story you can continue on and continue doing side missions and stuff. i continued with my character for a little bit and then eventually i started another play through with a specific other race/class/etc that i wanted to play to experience a little more of the game using different weapons and as different classes, because the game is truly that good. you can get lost just wandering and doing side quests if you get sucked in that much like i did after beating the main story.

this is a truly huge game, especially for it's time. there are tons of different things you can do to give each character individuality and you can play however you like and just go to random towns and do all sorts of side quests. upgrading the game with all the mods that have been created for this game makes this a even better game that you can pour hundreds and hundreds of hours into if you really wanted to.

On Steam I have 53 hours on record but in reality I've put at least a couple hundred hours into Morrowind, both vanilla and modded. I recommend anyone playing on PC today use the Morrowind Graphics Extender to enable distant terrain. There are also some texture and mesh replacers out there that are quite close to vanilla but look much better. I think after all these years these graphical mods are kind of necessary.

You will have to overlook some old and clunky designs, you will have to understand that your to hit percentage is based on skills, not on physically connecting, and until you hit like mid-level with your weapon skills a lot of your attacks will miss.

But it's worth putting up with all for the freedom this game gives you. Freedom in how you explore, which quests you do, which factions you back, freedom of play style, freedom to make your own spells, enchant your own gear (and there's more of it here than any other Elder Scrolls game). It's a big, alien world that I really enjoyed exploring.

A lot of younger gamers will honestly just bounce off this game. But for people willing to put in a little time to learn the systems they will find a real classic gem of a game.

The ship rocked from side to side, and the wind howled outside the window. Lying in this hammock, I thought about whether I would see my native Vvardenfell ... a couple of times it seemed to me that the ship was about to capsize, and my little journey in shackles would end in this sea!
]Will my life end when the Last Sun rises tomorrow?
Only 9 Gods and the Empire know the answer to this question!

When I talk about Morrowind, I'm talking about the game that won my heart and gave me the love of the RPG genre!
I can say with confidence - after many 10-20 years of playing different RPGs - that Morrowind not only remained in my heart as a great and pure love, but also became the best RPG in the entire existence of this genre!

Plot:

The success of a good RPG is storytelling! After all, the story that we see on the screen of our monitors, we read like a book, and because of how versatile and rich it will be, it will depend - whether we want to reread it again and again even after many years! I can really say that the plot of Morrowind is an amazing story that you will want to re-read many times and replay over and over again to find out all the possibilities, subtleties and trifles that we might not have noticed when we first read it - passing the game! Even after 15-20 years, we will remember the detective story, where we not only learned the secrets and arcana of this World and unraveled the tangle of intrigues, but also assumed the role of the savior of these Lands from the ancient cult and ancient Gods who wanted to destroy our World.

RPG system:

Many games that call themselves RPG forget that this system must be quite large and to a certain extent difficult for the player, so that the study of this whole system is like learning mathematics from the multiplication table to matrices and other more level elements - algorithms that will add up to a single picture of the existence of this virtual world!
You will get the opportunity to make a character level 100, pump all skills to level 100, learn hundreds of new spells and abilities and create 1000 types of weapons, scrolls, potions, giving you the opportunity to create your own unique character leveling system and unique tactics of life and victory against evil!

I managed to get level 105 in one of my playthroughs, can you do the same? :)

Virtual world:

I would like to separately note this wonderful romantic world in which you just want to live!
Even when you reach your maximum level in the game and complete all tasks: main and side quests.
There are very few games that have such a rich and saturated world, filled with many small details that fascinate you and imbue you with the magic that exists in our real world, but which we simply do not notice due to the fact that we rarely look at the stars above our heads!

Graphics:

When the game appeared, I was very delighted with this graphics, which I saw on the screen of my 17-inch monitor, and then on the screen of the 19-inch monitor, which I bought a little later (when I played the game for the second time). Even when I ran this game on the formats of the new 28 inch 4K monitor, I saw the same beautiful picture that I saw many years ago! At the same time, I understand that these are graphics - the game does not give a widescreen resolution, since it is old, like good wine, but over the years it gets better and is filled with a large bouquet of flavors, notes of nostalgia for my soul!

Music:

This game has amazing gentle music that will caress your ear throughout the entire gameplay!
Even when you're done playing this game, you'll want to download the album of this music and use it as a divine serenade before bed!
When you have children (or maybe they already have), then you will want to put this music as a lullaby for them, so that they can feel the taste of beautiful and high art from childhood!

Bugs:

This is the saddest part of all that I wrote above, but I can't help but write about it!
Yes, there are many bugs in the game, it's pointless to describe all of them, but I want to say that some of them add more hardcore to the passing of the game!
As an example - my favorite bug - there is a destroyed Daedra statue that asks you to restore it, and in return you can get a unique Golden Sword, the most powerful sword in the game!
The whole point is that from the beginning of the game, a timer starts, and if you do not have time to accumulate 5.000 gold in the first 2 weeks and still get a couple of rare elements (and this is very difficult to do), and then start restoring this statue with the help of a master sculptor , then you just risk not getting this wonderful sword!
That is, if you play this game and do not do everything quickly enough in 2 weeks, then, of course, you can restore this statue, it will talk to you, but it will not give you this sword! This is just a bug that was made by the developers and which, most likely, cannot be fixed, probably after tens of years. And there are a lot of such bugs in the game. Studying every bug and every subtlety of the game mechanics gives you more hardcore in terms of passing the game than any difficulty level that you will increase in the game!
This is the unique game in which bugs make the game not worse, but better many times over, and therefore it becomes one of the best RPGs for a real hardcore RPG gamer!

10/10 Hardcore Love

Morrowind is an awesome game that still holds up today, even considering all the faults and jank.

I did not play this game until 2021, so that is not nostalgia speaking. The game is very slow, the UI is pretty clunky, and it does take some time to get used to how the underlying leveling system works. But once you get used to it though, what you have here is a very immersive RPG in an enrapturing almost alien fantasy world. The politics are deep, the racial and cultural dynamics are mind bogglingly well thought out, the music is great, and the story is the most interesting of the Elder Scrolls installments, bar none.

My only problems with the game is that inventory management and leveling can be insanely time consuming in an already very slowly paced western RPG (a genre that's already known for being pretty slow and unintuitive when it comes to leveling, menus and inventory). The main quest line is very drawn out, and would've been better to cut it here and there so people who are interested can get through it at a reasonable pace. All in all, it's a 100-200 hour game without the expansion campaigns (I didn't dive into either of the two just because I don't want to dedicate THAT much time to this game, but I've heard good things about them)

So, if you are cool with looking at games for what they are and have the patience to learn the ins and outs of this 20 year old game, what you have here is an insanely good single player, first-person perspective western RPG for the price tag of like, $2 on sale. If you could only buy 1 Bethesda RPG, I'd still say you should go with Fallout New Vegas, but this would be a pretty awesome, if distant second.

This is my first ever time playing Morrowind and I had no idea what to expect and, after hundreds of hours on Skyrim for comparison, it's more than aged and is quite difficult to play. But after spending a good few hours getting used to the mechanics etc. I'm really starting to enjoy it. I has a certain charm for sure.

With not much interesting gaming going on these days I thought it would be cool to revisit a classic. So here's what's what.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in an RPG like no other. Apparently written under the rule of psychoactive drugs, it climaxes in a bizarre that is both zodiacal and surreal. The adventure takes place in Vvardenfell, an island closer to the extraterrestrial rather than the fantastical. It is a vessel of the game's penchant for amalgamation, be it of tribal cultures and rival civilizations, apocryphal beliefs and astral prophecies, revanchist doctrines and occult interests or carnal desires and transcendental ambitions. Between cynical politicians and embodied deities (some of them false, by the way), drug dealers and infernal powers, the player experiences a unique sensation of freedom. Not just freedom of action in the way they choose their course, but also freedom of thought as they follow ascension along a path of Machiavelian pragmatism or simply forlorn wandering in the pursuit of divinity.

With the game being almost two decades old by now, it can be a bit of a headache to get it to run smoothly on present-day machines. However, there's plenty of written and video guides that cover the essentials. Particularly if you care about a minimal installation featuring hardware compatibility and bug fixing (the only things that are truly needed to enjoy the game, in my opinion), you can get everything set up in under an hour. It's totally worth it, because by the time you've set foot in Morrowind, you'll be scratching your head and wondering why people stopped making games like this.

It says a lot about the quality of this game that, despite swing-and-you'll-miss-it early game combat and archaic inventory systems, it is still probably the best Elder Scrolls title to date. The Tolkien-esque lore, bizarre yet charming comedic moments, and great voice acting (I'll die on this hill) make for an unforgettable experience that still shines nearly 20 years later.

That, and the modding scene is crazy devoted. Seriously, that ultra-ambitious mod they started *a year* before the game came out is still receiving updates.

It's just that good.

Been playing this game recently and the main hurdle I had to get over was the gameplay. It is really hard to get into at first but if you just push through it (or use a guide, no shame) then it will be really fun. Make sure to download the 100% hit rate mod if you are familiar with the other elder scrolls games such as Oblivion or Skyrim.

You need a few mods to make the game a little more palatable (Rock, Paper, Shotgun has a great to-the-point article about essential mods)

The more I play Morrowind the more I understand what die-hard Bethesda nerds complain about modern releases. I used to think better graphics = more immersion but that's not true. Morrowind was born in the era of low disk space so instead of beautiful textures and lots of voice acting to tell stories it's almost entirely through text. In fact almost every piece of information is given through text, including dialogue, quests, and notes (duh). Coming from Skyrim I took the waypoint marker for granted, not realizing that I spent a lot of time staring at the top of my screen. In Morrowind you are told to go to a neighboring town by following a path and that's about it. You start reading road signs and referencing a basic world map to get to your next location. You begin to look past the outdated graphics and start to imagine yourself in the world. In the end nothing I type here is going to do Morrowind justice and if you're reading these overwhelmingly positive reviews you've probably already made up your mind.

P.S. If you hold up Morrowind as a better game than Skyrim as a way to sound interesting, you are a smelly nerd. Both are great games.

I'm not saying I didn't like it, just that I wouldn't recommend it to someone whose never played an old CRPG before.

Morrowind has a lot to like, but it's also got more shit you have to put up with then any main ES game except Arena. The first thing you'll notice when you boot up Morrowind for the first time is that YOU MOVE LIKE A SNAIL ON POT. Not only are you the slowest of any Elder Scrolls game, this game also has significantly more walking than any of the newer games. Morrowind is the only numbered elder scrolls game to lack map-based fast travel, instead relying on an unintuitive system of boats, giant walking bugs and Mages Guild teleports, and after a while it'll make you feel like a f***ing commuter at Penn Station. Now, you CAN get some boots pretty early on if you know where to go that'll make you move at a more reasonable pace. The catch? Those boots also make you BLIND! Take that, slowpoke! If you know what you're doing you could counteract the blindness, but that's probably an unreasonable ask for someone unfamiliar.

Walking isn't the only thing holding this game back mind you, but it's the most Immediately apparent. Again, people like this game for valid reasons, and I didn't hate my time with it. However, after giving it a go myself it has become painfully apparent people who fangirl this game do so with Ray-Charles-level nostalgia glasses.

My first experience with this game was when i was around 12 or 13, It was on the Original Xbox and even though the frames were horrible, even though i had no idea wtf i was doing and even though i never did anything but kill people, take over their house and decorate it while going out on exploration trials where i just go out and experience the beautiful, alien like landscape and the overwhelming music. Morrowind still holds a top place in my heart for many different reasons.

Not to get sappy, but this was also my grandmothers favorite game to watch me play when i was at her house. She adored listening to the music as she was cutting up strawberries for me in the kitchen. Some of my best experiences happened at her house, and playing this was one of them. She passed away from lung cancer a few years later.

Now, here i am in 2021 replaying this while being able to comprehend the vast amount of content their is to experience and with a vast grip of how rpg's are done. I also added Tamrial Rebuilt to my game and its hands down the best mod i have ever experienced. I highly consider anyone diving into Morrowind to download and play with Tamrial cause its amazing.

I cant express enough the amount of love i have for this game. Morrowind is why i play RPG's to this day. If i had never picked this game up from my local FYE when i was kid i'd most likely would have never experienced some of the best games out there.

10/10 Morrowind shaped a part of who i am today.

If you're reading this review in 2021 or after, it's probably because you're wondering whether a two decade old game is still worth playing all these years later. The answer is an absolute and unequivocal yes. You'll probably want some mods to spruce up the graphics and add some quality of life features common to the newer titles, but with those caveats aside I think this game is absolutely as immersive and fascinating as it was when it was first released.

The real standout traits of Morrowind, to me, are its utterly alien setting - a far cry from the generic Euro fantasy worlds of Oblivion and Skyrim - and the player's almost absolute freedom to engage with that world however they want. There is none of the hand holding of newer games, but neither is there any of its tedious restriction of player freedom. Engage with its world however you want - follow the law and pursue the main quest, or spit in the face of both and, as the game ominously warns you, Persist in the Doomed World you have Created.

This game is the essence of Bethesda before they went corporate and fired the writers who had interesting ideas. The inimitable charisma of its bizarre world will never fade, and the devotion of fans who continue to create content for it and even seek to remaster it themselves (Skywind!) is a testament to its enduring appeal.

If you are an RPG fan and have not played this game, you owe it to yourself to do so.

It has a different kind of jank compared to Oblivion and Skyrim, but that's what makes Morrowind stand out. Kinda makes me wish the later games didn't change so much. Getting stronger as you progress feels a lot more noticeable when enemies don't scale with your character.

Morrowind is not a game, instead it is a cruel reminder of the sadism of the Imperial races. Ever since the armed Imperial guards have ransacked my family estate, enslaving my brothers, while making a concubine out of my sister, I have been plagued by dreams foretelling an ancient, ominous prophecy. It is a relatively generic boon that I have been promised, I am depicted as the hero, designated to be the saviour of Morrowind. Whether this prophecy is genuine, or is merely an artificial hallucination, conjured by psychological torture at the hands of Todd Howard, it is uncertain. All I know for sure, is the fact that the Imperials are ruthless, they are commanded by Todd Howard and his incessantly chirping harlots, who act as sentries for his fortress, constructed out of discarded Skyrim copies. These imperials, so deranged in their schemes of acquiring valour, attempt to provoke animosity wherever they go. It appears their recent endeavours have seen them in Morrowind, where they are attempting to tax, beat and subdue the denizens of this prosperous realm, until a revolt occurs. It appears that their attempts at cultivating a revolt are finally coming into fruition, as already armed local militia’s and disenfranchised citizens are occurring throughout ever hold and town. Within long, the populace will ascend as a cohesive, raving horde, intent on decimating any Imperial influence that has resided in Morrowind. The Imperials, while desiring a civil war to erupt, do not wish to lose, as that would risk their esteemed empire evolving into a decadent realm. As such, the Imperials have abducted individuals such as myself, forcing us to ingest mass quantities of Skooma and then sending us forth to commit mass atrocities amongst the Elves, in an attempt to incite animosity, while simultaneously weakening the inevitable civil war that will abrupt. My recollections as an Imperial pawn are hazy, however, I am able to reminiscence on being shackled to a ship, forced to ingest immense quantities of Skooma and then being usher into a local Elven village, wielding a battleaxe. The rest is nothing but ambiguous rabble, a red misty maze. If I could garner a guess, I would presume that what followed the events was that a massacre unfolded, with the majority of the populace being utterly decimated, at the hands of a Skooma induced, axe wielding maniac, who at the time was unable to distinguish reality from fiction. Although I have escaped my shackles, virtually unscathed, I still remain tormented by the past. I have begun abducting local Elves and Imperials, forcing them to ingest Skooma, while observing their reaction. What I have deduced is that the properties of Skooma are ambiguous at best, while being proclaimed as lethal at the worst. Due to the various health concerns that Skooma raises, the product has been outlawed completely, with various merchants barring your way into their shop if you possess the illicit substance. As a result procuring the drug is immensely difficult, with unconventional means being imperative to acquiring the forbidden vials. I had devised a scheme to ransack and pilfer various Skooma dens throughout Morrowind, slinking in the shadows and subduing the occupants by any means necessary. My ‘visits’ to these ‘abodes’ left various charred corpses, electrified children and eviscerated women, as I deemed a ruthless extermination policy was necessary, as to not alert the local militia. My studies yielded exceptional results, regarding the capabilities of Skooma, particularly in combat. By forcing a Skooma addled Imperial to duel a malignant Werecat, I deduced that the intriguing substance procures temporary vigour within the user, allowing them to dart around and triumph against whatever apparition they may face. However, this beverage’s strengths, also produced susceptibility within the user, hampering their personal judgement and distorting their sense of reality considerably. It made the individual, unable to distinguish entities, resulting in say a child’s head being cracked open by a zealous soldier, who mistook said defenceless child, for a man eating Succubus. As, such my scientific endeavour revealed that Skooma, while producing extraordinary physical prowess, caused extreme bafflement within the individual.

Although, I enjoyed my wholly ethical, scientific analysis, I gradually began to comprehend that a sense of complacency had enveloped my person. While, I resided in my mountain cave, testing the effects of beverages upon the kidnapped locals, I remained oblivious to the calamity that had encroached itself upon Morrowind. Contrary to my comprehension that the area was in relative tranquillity, asides from the odd abduction, I became aware of a growing infestation of Werewolves, following the coincidental disappearances of villagers, who were likely devoured or inducted into the Werewolf order. Alongside, this growing predicament, ravaged and mutilated corpses, were being left at the doorsteps of abodes, owned by Redguard’s. These eviscerated corpses, either referenced a tribute, or subservience to the Redguards, or likely insinuates that racial tension is a reality between the Regards and the Elves, who despise all forms of humanoid races, as a result of Imperial aggression. Furthermore, while all of these calamities were occurring, an army of sentient crabs were congregating, forming into secretive communities while simultaneously plotting to usurp Imperial control and place themselves as our crab overlords.

I now, writing this missive, comprehend my purpose in Morrowind, I must dedicate myself to the art of heroism and fulfil the wishes of the prophecy. I will be regarded as the Knight Of Eyek, maintaining a watchful eye over the realm of Morrowind and ensuring that the Crab overlords are unable to wrest control, while additionally, ensuring that the Imperials power wans. Furthermore, I will rescue my brothers and sister, who I have heard tall tale has been forced into being a harlot, a mere strumpet for an overbearing IMPERIAL. If I have learnt anything from my encounters and hardships, it is that ethics are merely a morale guideline and not a concrete rule for an individual to follow. I have also learnt that the Sais must be repelled from the glorious plains of Morrowind, with the oppressive Imperial INVADERS being given no quarter or mercy. I will acknowledge that my past has been tarnished, by the inconceivably ruthless actions of the Imperials, however, with the assistance of Duna and the other deities, I vow to restore serenity within the realm of Morrowind again. The times of yore will become a reality, Morrowind will once again be regarded as the bastion of Tamriel.

Overall, in conclusion I implore all to embark upon this psychologically conflicting experience, as although it may initially infuriate thee, it will undoubtedly procure an intriguing, unique experience, that once conflated with an individuals self perception will be extraordinarily sublime.

Things I've learned from playing the og xbox version iand this one:

I'm an n'wah
I'm a s'wit
I'm stoopid
I will suffer greatly
I will now die (for every single encounter)
I'm a drug dealer
I'm a slaver

10/10

In all honesty, this game is not for everybody. I wouldn't even recommend this to those who like skyrim and oblivion because of how many stuff they streamlined in those titles that can alienate many of them to the mechanics of morrowind. But if you're willing to take your time, let the story unfold at your own pace, then the pay-off is an experience you'd wish you would've had before playing the more modern TES titles. The freedom in this game is astounding given the fact that it's from 2002. You can play like a ninja, play like a brain dead psychopath, hell you can even achieve godhood with all the abilities you can get. The balancing is not the best, but it's not the worst either. The quests may feel like just going from point a to point b at times but other than that, you're the one forging your own path. The only limitation you have is your ability to put up with the games dated look and dice roll mechanics (unless you mod the living shit out of this). I'd be lying if I say I loved this game from the get go, in fact, I hated this game when I first played it because I was spoiled by the streamlined approach of its sequel. This, at least for me, is by far the most immersive Elder Scrolls title as of yet. I played Skyrim on the 360 for atleast 200+ hours, and Oblivion also on the 360 for about 150+ hours, and despite all that, I still think Morrowind is the last of its kind to give the player the amount of freedom it has and it's by far my favorite out of the 3. You know why? Because you can kill every single npc anywhere and everywhere.

Having Spent around 1000 hours + on this game (on original xbox) this is the type of game i can Recommend even in 2020. there is 447 quests in the game and even with 1000 hours i have yet to find and complete them all. these are some of the best quests in all of RPG´s, becuse it does not hold the players hand, it makes you work and explore on your own . and the atmosphere alone could keep me playing for hours, and some of the best soundtracks of any Elder scrolls game. The combat is the worse part of the game, but once you get the skills up it wont bother you anymore. Unlike the newer Elder scrolls, Morrowind have Spellmaking wich lets you combine and create spells, some even game breaking. i could write a book about why i would recommend this, so the bottom line is : Morrowind is probably the best RPG game ever made til this day, and there is also tons of mods for this game wich mix up things later in the game. 10/10-

Morrowind is not only a game, it's an experience. Nowadays unfortunately not for everyone. It won't catch you with cool effects, physics, AI. But the noteworthy preciseness with which the game designers constructed the deep ecosystem of an authentic fantasy world with its logical patterns and individual stories reflects what storytelling was like in 90s and around the millenium. This game has saved Bethesda from a bankrupt. Nowadays unfortunately they don't seem to remember, but I'll be anyway always grateful for how the contemporary Bethesda designers made my childhood and even today's fantasies different. If you're alive enough, give this a try. Special thanks to Jeremy Soule.

It probably won't come as much of a surprise to those who know me that I absolutely adore Morrowind. I've been making mods for Morrowind since 2003, creating videos for it since 2014, and have frequently in the past given away copies of Morrowind to family, friends, passing acquaintances, and complete strangers. To say the least, Morrowind is my favorite game of all time.

With a rich, unrivaled world, full of ancient mysteries, vast expanses to explore, a complex woven tapestry of lore, and a truly alien feel, there's just nothing like Morrowind. To me, it's like a home, one that I come back to frequently and repeatedly.

But I'll be the first to admit that Morrowind does have its flaws, it has more than a few quirky bugs (it is Bethesda after all) and an admittedly dated combat system. But almost everything that could be called a flaw with Morrowind has already been fixed by the amazing modding community that continues to support this game with over a thousand new mods on a yearly basis. Modding has vastly expanded Morrowind's capabilities, modernizing its graphics and gameplay, and adding more content than can realistically be played in years of non-stop gaming, with whole new provinces to explore, realms to fight through, and new factions to quest for.

Thanks to this amazing modding community, which has only continued to grow over the years, Morrowind is a truly timeless and never ending game, and is well worth playing today, tomorrow, and years in the future!

Truly golden title and still the best elder scrolls game that some old school gamers could ever ask for. New elder scrolls titles simply can not provide such immersion of being a simple journeyman, being completely lost on this island and trying to find your path ahead. Even counting that Vvardenfell is not so big in a matter of size, this magical place is fully filled with everything that became legendary and is loved by many gamers, starting from the heart warming and nostalgic howls of siltstriders and ending with dusty howling winds of red mountain. Many new players might do not like the DnD logic behind the skills and fighting, but everyone who truly are elder scrolls fans must definitely give Morrowind a shot at least once.

I'm gonna grow a few more grey hairs after writing this review.

Skyrim and Oblivion will always hold a special place in my heart, as will TESO and to a lesser extent, the buggy messes that are Arena and Daggerfall. TES Legends too but that's a different breed.

But Morrowind is and I think always will be at the top. I understand that it's hard to go back to older games, especially if you didn't start with them. I was fortunate enough that my first experience with The Elder Scrolls franchise was indeed Morrowind and wow, what a masterpiece. Where Oblivion and Skyrim (IMO) dumb down the game in order to appeal to more players and make it easier, Morrowind didn't. It threw you right into the fire. The way it's played, it's almost a precursor to the Demon's Souls series. The music, the setting, the everything. Is every NPC voiced? Of course not. But you have to put that time into reading and when you do, you take more of the game in. There are no quest markers, you have to find your own way. Can that be tough? Of course, but it adds that depth, that realism. You appreciate it more. And the story is wayyy better than anything Bethesda had made before or since.

I know it's hard, but if you haven't played Morrowind, I implore you to give it a try. Yes, it's a little clunky early going. Yes, it takes a few hours for the game to actually start picking up momentum, but once it does, it doesn't stop until it's finished. If you like Elder Scrolls lore, this entry in the series provides more lore than any of the others. There's also a TON of mod support that makes it even better. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

I have played this game for most of my life. I have no idea how many hours I played on the original GOTY disc, it's easily in the thousands. HIGH thousands. I adore this game.
That said, my glasses are not rose tinted. It's an old game: it's controls can be clunky, combat is frustrating and non modded NPCs are a horrific abomination that hurt my eyes. Mods help with all of that.
What makes Morrowind perfect is Morrowind itself. It's beautifully detailed. Everything in the game is hand placed and hand built. The culture of the Dunmer is deep and weird and wonderful. There is a enough politics in the game to make a lawyer drool. The main quest deals with questions of destiny and predetermination with the twist that it all might be a lie and you are a pawn that may or may not have broken free of the forces manipulating you. The faction quests enrich the main quest--somethings are easier or harder if you have done faction quests, you have better context for what is happening in the main quest--but you can still perfectly understand and complete the main quest without them.
Tribunal is dark and political and twisty. No one is a good person in that plotline, but there are people who are worse than others. Bloodmoon is basically the prototype for Skyrim it's all Nords and ebony and werewolves and it's just the best thing ever. It essentially has two main quests, the East Empire Company is fun and your reward is a house and all the ebony you can pilfer.

Play Morrowind. It's awesome and might take over your life.

In 2020 still holds it's place as one of best RPG games ever created. The sheer amount of options and customization you can make to your character, spells, armor, and weapons in Morrowind is staggering. It is also one giant, contiguous world which consists of numerous factions, people, guilds, quests etc. Highly recommended to true RPG fans.

MORROWIND MODS that I recommend in 2020 to play this game smoothly in modern era are:

GRAPHICS:
- MGE XE
- Better Dialogue Font

BUGS:
- Morrowind Code Patch

MAGICKA:
- Fair Magicka Regen v2B

That's it! Ejoy! :)

Very dated yet charming. At first it's game-play may be awkward and limiting but you'll get used to it. The whole detective work and mystery you need to do for your objective is such a breath of fresh air from being surrounded by games that holds your hand. The game is goofy, mysterious, charming, and clever, much more clever than you think. So if you've played Skyrim / Oblivion first, I highly recommend this game for a more intellectual experience.

Wait who tf made this game? Thanks Todd 10/10 superior gaming experience.

First played this game in 2003. Have played enough to burn out 3 discs of the original release and two of the GotY Edition on the original Xbox. After thousands of hours I can confidently say that this is the best game I've played. Depth and design, setting and immersion, everything but the movement and combat are so very well done. It shows its age but Morrowind is a must-have for anyone who wants an entire world to explore.

The best TES game in my honest opinion. Playing through Morrowind fundamentally changed my entire perspective of the Elder Scrolls universe and gave me an appreciation for the lore of the series that i somehow missed playing Skyrim.

Despite its quirks and jank, Morrowind is an epic old-school RPG that follows a classic line of progression. You start off as a nobody, slowly amassing reputation as you investigate the mysterious prophecies that have divided the region of Vvardenfell for centuries. You'll need to navigate the politics of the Great Houses, dive into the mystical traditions of the Ashlander tribes all while being hunted and slandered by your opponents. You will go from killing rats in a basement to literally hunting down tools that make Gods. It's incredible.

That being said, to make your experience better I highly recommend you get OpenMW, which is a custom-made port to a new engine that boasts a number of enhancements and bug fixes namely;
-addition of 1080p resolutions at 60 FPS
-Graphical enhancements to make the game look crisp and sharper

A remapping of the default control scheme is a must. I changed mine to match that of Skyrim's (F to toggle POV, R to raise/holster weapon, Tab to open inventory etc.)

It's also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the game's rather quirky combat and magic systems, though you do have time to learn this at the beginning of the game. Unlike Skyrim, you obtain spells by purchasing them from Spell Vendors in the world. Once a spell is in your inventory, you can then make your own spells, combining as many different spells as you want with an increasing cost. Complex spells will require more magic and higher relevant magic skill. The freedom offered by the magic system is truly unique. You can levitate, lockpick and lock doors, poison, paralyze, jump higher, increase speed, the list goes on.

Combat is as simple as it gets, however unlike future titles you need to watch your stamina bar as once you run out of fatigue battles will devolve into a hilariously frustrating match of swinging and missing.

One thing to note is that the Tribunal DLC fundamentally breaks the game at the beginning. This is because the DLC assumes you've already finished the main game. When you rest or go to sleep in a bed, there is a chance a Dark Brotherhood assassin may spawn. Yes, this can happen the moment you step out of the Customs Office at Seyda Neen. You will rest, and suddenly an assassin will attack you. Fortunately they are scaled to your level so they don't hit too hard. However killing them will give you access to their high-quality expensive armor which you can either keep for yourself or sell for a healthy profit. In my playthrough, I was able to leave Seyda Neen for Balmora with 2K gold just by selling Assassin armor.

Otherwise, have fun out there you n'wahs!

Such a classically great game! I found myself humming the theme for a long time after. The Elder Scrolls games can overwhelm me a bit because of how open they are, but they're amazing nonetheless. This one feels a bit dated now, but with some high-res and quality-of-life mods, it's super enjoyable on a modern PC

An overall fantastic open world CRPG that is easily the best Elder Scrolls game in my opinion. The other ones are for N'Wahs. It's unique among the other titles in that it came out early enough to have been developed for PC first with console releases as an afterthought(less loading events, ui is better than in later games imo since it's designed to utilise the mouse) whilst it came out late enough for the world to have been handcrafted with a lot of detail. It also has the smallest map, however I think this is better for the game because it removes the need for fast travel and it means that more attention during development was put into quests etc and all environments are far more unique. The lack of fast travel is more than made up for with various transportation services and spells; about 15 minutes into the game you can find 3 scrolls that allow you to jump across the whole map- if you have a slowfall or levitate spell you can even survive it. Magic is also at its strongest in Morrowind, with the ability to create custom spells and as aforementioned, you can use the levitate spell(or a potion/scroll) to fly. One faction, house Telvanni, who are a bunch of ancap wizards, have organic towers that require levitation to navigate. The mobility spells in Morrowind add a lot of fun to the game and as to why Todd removed them in later games will be never known.
Of course, the game is far from perfect, it was made by Bethesda. The base game has quite a lot of glitches but this can be bypassed with the easily obtainable Morrowind code patch. Many people complain about the combat; you've got to view it like DnD or KotOR where you have a random chance to hit affected by multiple variables. When I see videos of people constantly missing attacks it's because their fatigue is empty and they're using a weapon that they have low skill with(they may also have a poor agility stat). With an agility of 65 and 80 skill in short blade I very rarely miss attacks, and if you miss attacks more often landing a hit is more satisfying. What I think is a more major problem is the starting movement speed. At the beginning of the game your walk speed is hopelessly slow and whilst your run speed is usually acceptable, running drains fatigue(stamina in later games) which can mess you up in combat. My advice is to travel as light as possible since encumbrance come along gradually unlike in later games so even if you have a carry weight of 300, you shouldn't aim to fill it up when you're travelling, but you can load up on stuff before teleporting back to a town/city to sell/store loot. If you're in a safe area, run and jump everywhere, this will increase your athletics and acrobatics(I would recommend keeping them as misc skills since they level quickly and are not worth a major or minor slot). It would also be worth leaving the game on sometimes, facing a corner, then press the autorun key(then turn your monitor off to save power)- this will help level athletics so you will suffer less later on. If you think the graphics are bad, just look up Caius Cosades and prove yourself wrong.
The game generally provides far more freedom than other Bethesda titles, with the ability to kill 'essential' npcs if you feel like it (the game will give you a warning message if you do so); it also has more RPG elements and player choices overall matter more. At this point, you should probably just get it instead of continuing to read my incoherent review.

(my hours are pretty nice at this point)

I always hear people say that the only reason people think this game is good is because of the nostalgia that goes along with it. I disagree with this 100%. The first Elder Scrolls game I played was Oblivion then Skyrim then Morrowind and I gotta say that I love all of them to death. However Morrowind is by far my favourite. Something about going from nothing to an omnipotent god slaying immortal just tickles me in the right way. If you're not sure if you should give it a go just do it and be patient with yourself and the game. The start is slow and I won't lie the game is really fucking ugly compared to other games today. All in all though 10/10 great experience.

There's something about this game that i can't quite put my finger on.
I loved Oblivion and i loved Skyrim but my favourite elder scrolls game is Morrowind

I did grow up playing this game on Xbox and it was frustrating to play sometimes but it
feels like the only game in the series that challenges me, in more than just game mechanic ways.

This the only elder scrolls that actually gave me chills sometimes.
I remember walking into an ancestral tomb or dwalven ruin and acctually
being on the edge of my seat thinking about what was around the corner.

Obviously the latest games will always have better functionality and
interactive experiences and while i enjoy that from the more upto date
elder scrolls this is a incredible experience for how lightweight on the computer it is.

To sum up this has been the most immersive of the bunch for reasons i cant
fully pinpoint and i still love it today. It is an adventurous game filled with mystical,
mysterious and beautiful landscapes and events, a unique and wonderful
world full of interesting creatures, machines and quests, all worth discovering.

Awesome game! I played this a bunch growing up, so I admit it makes me nostalgic. My favourite Elder Scrolls game even if the graphics are outdated. Morrowind is quintessential dark fantasy, taking place in a land primarily filled with swamp and ashlands, with threats coming from demons, vicious beasts, assassins, undead, cultists and various diseases.

To this day I believe Morrowind has had some of the creepiest atmosphere I've dealt with while gaming, especially just about anything to do with the Sixth House. Slowly but surely, as you progress through the game, the stage is set and eeriness of cults and otherworldly threats takes hold.

If you love seemingly endless options for exploration, dark fantasy or roleplaying, I think this game will have a lot of love to show you with its charm. Do yourself a favour, and don't pass it up just because it's a little older.

After 78 hours of getting through the game on my first run, I would say that Morrowind is my favorite unpleasant experience. It is tedious, cryptic, and often frustrating. Yet this game is deep and complex in interesting and novel ideas that make it worthwhile. This is not a game that gives you instant gratification or spectacular visuals; this is not a game that has you playing an already destined hero who will inevitably arise victorious. This is a game where you begin in a humbled position that frustrates your ability to have fun so that, when you do become the hero and the savior the game wants you to be, you will feel truly epic.

The best Elder Scrolls game. This got me into PC gaming and RPGs in 2003. I still have the original CD ROM version somewhere...

Everything that is bad about Skyrim is good in this game:

- It is worth exploring because you can find good things that way (not just grind your crafting skills for the best gear)

- There are actually builds

- The world is interesting and not bland Viking fantasy

- Memorable characters

- Excellent expansions

- No fast travel which makes a huge difference in your feeling of place in the world

- No quest markers, you actually have to read your journal to look back at notes you took from conversations

In other words, it's engaging and not just a grindfest and marker chasing simulator.

Dunno what could i say 'bout the Legend. Just dont look at oldad graphicsphisics, hardly understandable combat system et cetera(you can install mods anyway)
It's a wonderful masterpiece where you can spend so many times forgetting about rl. YOU WONT NEED THE REAL LIFE IN THE WORLD OF MORROWIND. NEVER BUY SKYRIM BUY THIS !!!!! FORGET ABOUT OTHER GAMES --- YOU ARE NEREVARINE AND YOU SHOULD RISE AND DEFEAT THE TRIBUNAL. you should see this amazing and really unique world that you've never seen before... For real, you've never seen another game world in other games that's similar to Morrowind's one.

This is, without a doubt, the best Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion and Skyrim are dumbed down and hold your hand throughout the entire games. This game feels like an actual world that you need to learn and remember landmarks or you will get lost. Zenimax/Bethesda, PLEASE make Elder Scrolls VI more of a throw back to Morrowind rather than taking all thought out of playing an RPG.
