The Walking Dead - A new Frontier

Ein sehr guter Teil der Serie. Es gibt wie immer eine tolle und spannende Geschichte, mit vielen harten Entscheidungen.

Weiterhin wurde die Grafik deutlich verbessert.
Es gibt keinerlei Bugs und die Quick-Time Events funktionieren bestens.

Ein sehr gutes Spiel !

Die Geschichte einer Familie

Wieder gibt es viele Entscheidungen zu treffen. Wieder gibt es viel Schwermut. Und schon wieder gibt es eine große Horde von Untoten…

Gameplay
Wie auch in den vergangenen zwei Spielen handelt es sich bei “A New Frontier” um eine interaktive Geschichte, in der wir als Protagonist die Geschichte erleben und Entscheidungen treffen, die den Spielverlauf in weiten Teilen steuern. Gelegentlich gibt es dabei kleinere Räumlichkeiten, in denen wir uns Objekte anschauen können und kleinere, sehr leichte Rätsel lösen müssen. Es gibt jedoch ein paar kleinere Veränderungen zum Vorgänger: Mit der „Crowd Play“ Funktion von TellTale können sich Spieler mit einem Account auf der Website an Spielsessions von anderen Spielern beteiligen und so zuschauen oder, wenn der Host es eingestellt hat, an Entscheidungen mitwirken. Allerdings sind gleichzeitig die Server von Telltale überwiegend offline, daher ist diese eigentliche coole Funktion nicht mehr verfügbar. Zusätzlich sind die Server für die Statistiken offline, welche Entscheidungen der anderen Spieler vergleichen. Dafür gibt es aber entweder einen Fix oder man kann die Statistiken Online einsehen. Das macht es zwar umständlich, wenn man auf diese Funktionen beharrt, aber es ist auch nicht weiter schlimm. Ansonsten bietet das Spiel wie immer einen validen Wiederspielwert und bietet aufgrund der Möglichkeiten Platz für 2-3 Durchläufe mit einer Spielzeit von ca. 8 Stunden.

Story
Die Geschichte knüpft zeitlich 1-2 Jahre nach dem Ende der zweiten Staffel an. Allerdings spielen wir nicht wie im Vorgänger Clementine, sondern schlüpfen in die Rolle von Javier, der sich einerseits mit den romantischen Spannungen zu Kate, der Frau seines Bruders, und zu pädagogischen Fragen zu dessen Kindern stellen muss. In Rückblicken erfahren wir dabei, wie es dazu gekommen ist, während wir in der Gegenwart auf ein größeres Problem stoßen. Im Verlauf der Geschichte stoßen wir auch recht schnell auf Clementine, deren Geschichte natürlich auch großzügig aufgegriffen wird.
Das dritte Spiel wird von Fans gerne als „Filler-Season“ bezeichnet, da man zwar erfährt, wie es Clementine erging, jedoch liegt der Fokus hier ganz klar auf Javier, der sich mit seiner Familie beschäftigt. Natürlich haben wir es wieder mit vielen harten Entscheidungen, emotionalen Momenten und vielen Zombies zu tun. Die dritte Episode tischt mal wieder Postapokalypse vom feinsten auf, wirkte an manchen Stellen allerdings auch etwas platt oder stockend. Ein wenig haben sich die Ereignisse für mich im Kreis gedreht. Nicht falsch verstehen: Die Geschichte ist sehr gut, jedoch empfand ich sie minimal schwächer als in den Vorgängern. Vielleicht liegt dies am kleineren Bezug zur eigentlichen Geschichte von Clementine, vielleicht hat man sich auch einfach ein wenig an das Prinzip des Spiels gewöhnt. Was ich aber besonders positiv erwähnen möchte, ist die Tatsache, dass viele Entscheidungen nicht vorgetäuscht werden und man gerade nach mehrmaligen Durchspielen merkt, dass man hier deutlich mehr als noch in Episode Eins bestimmen kann.

Grafik/Sound
Die Spielreihe hält auch in diesem Teil an seiner Comicartigen Grafik fest. Kein Wunder, wenn man bedenkt, dass „The Walking Dead“ ursprünglich auch nur eine Comicserie war. Die Veränderung ist zu älteren Teilen überschaubar und bietet nur leichte Verbesserungen. Vielleicht ist der Comicstil noch etwas stärker geworden, aber das ist wirklich schwer zu sagen. Soundtechnisch ist das Spiel natürlich wieder super und alle, englischen, Sprecher machen einen hervorragenden Job. Allerdings sind die deutschen Untertitel machmal nicht ganz akkurat, was für Leute, die nicht gut im Englischen sind, durchaus für Verwirrung oder für Fehlentscheidungen führen kann.

Fazit
Wer sich für den dritten Teil interessiert, sollte definitiv die Vorgänger gespielt haben. Diese sind nicht nur praktisch zum Verstehen der Geschichte, sondern sind aufgrund des Grafikstils und des „Gameplays“ auch nicht wirklich schlechter. „The Walking Dead: A New Frontier“ ist einem ähnlichen Niveau wie die Vorgänger und wer von der Geschichte um Clementine angefangen hat, der möchte sie sicherlich hiermit auch voranbringen. Als Nachfolger durchaus zu empfehlen!

SPOILER ALARM:

Game is shorter then Season Two (8 hours) and First game (15 hours). Sure i didnt pick up everything dont speak with everyone & its strength should replay it for different endings,but even if it has only 7 hours i enjoy it. For me its very good game (better then Season 2). Javi is on a level like Lee, not perfect, but good kind of character with many hard choices.

+ many good characters can survive (Javi, Kate, Eleonor, Jesus)
+ good story (even if there should be more possibles)
+ nice detailed graphics
+ no hard choice in 5 Episode (Kate/ Eleonor/ (Mariana)/ Jesus would he killing me)

- to small episodes (sure better 7 hours fun then 70 hours boring wasted time)
- some deaths arent stoppable (R.I.P Mariana WHY YOU :( )
- hard choice from ending Season Two nearly no effect (i saved Jane & for what? Not know what happen with Kenny, but this ending is really make me disappointed from Jane)

But after all i enjoyed the game & i am happy i bought it, i played it & its like all Walking Dead Games back on Steam.

So buy it & support this game (maybe with 50 % discount or replay it twice, what i will do in a few years :)

I have to admit that I have downloaded the pirated previous versions of this TWD game. It's my time to step up and appreciate more the game's Dev, because the game taught me to have:
1. A good manner and empathy that make us human.
2. Decent problem solving skill and fast decision making.
3. Deep sincerity to let go and not regret about it.
4. And many more.

I mean c'mon, with these good lessons and amazing stories, you still wanted to free? It's worth buying.
Even tho I purchased this on sale, lmao.

eh, as much as I liked the other 2 Telltale games, this was just not it. Skip this game if you're here after playing Walking Dead Season 2 and directly move onto The Final Season.

A full length dlc that focuses on characters other than Clementine and her friends. Clem shows up at the right time, but this original story fleshes out some of the gaps between the second and final season.

Don't even know where to start with this game, all I know is I'm glad I got it on sale & it didn't need to be part of the series.

Somehow, this happens to be the first Walking Dead game that I review just because I needed to get my thoughts out about it asap- how did we come from the masterpiece which is the first game- to the equally good second game- to this absolute mess? The first and second seasons have continuing, enjoyable storylines of which you are immersed in and want to see what happens next- and actually care about all, if not most characters that come into them. This, however, I hated every single one of the newly introduced characters(Except Jesus.)

Kate was one of the most dislikeable characters I've come across in video games thus far, and to be fair, she isn't THAT bad, but damn... As soon as she is introduced we see that even though we are in a zombie apocalypse, all she cares about is smoking with kids in the car, talking about bullshit in front of them and cheating on her husband. True, her husband isn't the greatest and sure she doesn't love him but it doesn't give her the right to cheat on him with his BROTHER and with her kids having to endure that. Worst of all, majority of players chose to feed into this and romance her. What the fuck?...
Javier wasn't too bad of a character, though he could be dumb and a lot of our choice options cause him to be two-faced, he isn't that bad... But the question still comes, who cares about him? We went from amazing characters like Lee & Kenny to this... Don't talk to me about the haircut he gave Clementine at the end.
I also didn't like Gabe, he was a bratty kid who constantly tried to prove himself to everyone and crushes on Clementine for some reason..., calm down, no one cares, this is a zombie apocalypse. Somehow, David spoke more sense than most of the characters at SOME points, and even though we're meant to dislike him, I ended up siding with him just because I hated everyone else, yet somehow he just goes against us anyway.
Jesus, Tripp and Ava were the most likeable new characters in this game, and it's a shame that they had to be wasted in this game, especially Jesus.

My other issue was that in the last game, I left Kenny and took AJ to Wellington. This game doesn't even continue from that and apparently we get flashbacks of some things from then, but that's into the game more and it's dumb that it didn't start off with that- hell, I didn't even know those scenes were meant to be in Wellington- I thought Prescott was Wellington. Wtf?...

I just personally didn't enjoy this game nor its characters, even Clementine was a bit out of character- she was more reserved & a little more careless in this game compared to the last. I couldn't wait to finish it(which sucks, because the previous two I didn't want to finish.), but luckily it was the shortest at only around 9 hours. Uninstalled immediately and never going back- if I ever replay the series I'm skipping this one- don't worry, AJ is barely in it so you won't miss anything between him & Clem. Not surprised Telltale went bankrupt after playing this one.

What can I say. It's a Walking Dead game, and with TellTale you can only expect so much. At times the game relies so much on its rudimentary art style that it looks outright bad. I know it's rough and almost like a comic book, but some scenes in the game look like they weren't looked over even twice before they moved onto the next. While the story is compelling and you will find yourself caring about the outcome of each character, their reactions and sense of logic seem so skewed that few of them feel relatable as human characters. The consequences to your actions sometimes make no sense, and you'll be left wondering if you should just exit to menu and try again, as your words are twisted and completely misrepresented by a pre-determined script. But again, this is a TellTale game. If you care enough to finish the story then feel free, but alone it is not worth paying for.

Music gets good later in the game.
It's good but not it doesn't bring same tensions like the first and second.
Shocking and disturbing scenes.
Sadness is promised.

WARNING:
Quite graphic and disturbing scenes.
Know that taletale games doesn't fuck around when it comes to children getting killed.

It's not *bad* but i dont know if it's worth it.
Pretty ugly, somehow, and uncomfortably tied down to Clementine.
This one would've been good if it was either it's own thing or from Clementine's POV.
If you don't have the spare cash or time i'd call this one an easy skip. If not, it can be pretty fun.

Lately I have been on a Telltale binge since they have mostly shut down (although The Wolf Among Us 2 and The Expanse were announced!) and trying to beat all of their games on Steam even if they aren't available anymore. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is a continuation/Season 3 of The Walking Dead series from Telltale that really established them as a developer (in my opinion) with gamers. To my memory The Walking Dead was the first really successful game with a popular IP and A New Frontier doesn't change my mind on the series at all.

Although I thoroughly prefer Clementine as the main protagonist I thought the game did a really good job with Javi and having us learn more about him and care about him. Although I believe we go back to Clementine in the final season I hope Javi is here to stay and that we see him pop up in minor/major ways. The only downside to this game for me is that I felt like Javi's big decisions will have no lasting impact on the series as a whole because of the protagonist changing between Clementine and Javi. I hope to be wrong in the final season but it was difficult for me to feel the severity of life changing decisions when I knew they probably wouldn't affect Clementine.

Outside of that negative, it is another good entry and worth playing the whole Walking Dead series from start to end.

In this installment of The Walking Dead series we play as Javier Garcia who is on the run from the apocalypse with his brother's wife and their two kids, boy and girl. Hard times are taking its toll on everyone and their family is no exception, two adolescents are not making it any easier for sure. As Javi tries his best to protect his family, he also needs to keep his relationship with Kate within limits, offer the kids some needed space and scavenge for supplies. Hard choices are waiting for him right around the corner though and it won't be too long before their relatively peaceful time go to hell.
As the situation around Javier's family escalates he meets our well known figure, Clementine. Although the meeting isn't going well for Javi at the beginning and Clem is rather withdrawn towards him, the necessity of the upcoming situations requires them to cooperate. Even more now because their past is slowly coming to bite them pretty hard in the back and trustworthy companions are always hard to find. Securing their safe future is going to be difficult and it won't go without making painful sacrifices.

I don't mind the change of perspective from Clem on another survivor, although at the beginning I was little bit afraid that she wouldn't be there at all. In the end it worked pretty well. I liked Javier, for me it was very easy to connect to him. With Kate it was harder, but I understand her motives, kids were fine. Clementine is of course perfect and it's very nice to see her growing up through the series, she is so matured. There are a lot of other characters you are going to meet, whose lives you are going to save or destroy… pretty standard routine. Without spoiling you much I can say that there is one very likeable character and although you don't know anything about him you can tell right away that he is a good guy. Because you know, Garrus Vakarian can't be a bad boy. ;D So yeah, one of the characters is voiced by his actor and I believe it was my first time hearing him outside Mass Effect! And it was pretty much distracting for me, because I have completely switched to Mass Effect mode and didn't paid much attention to what he was actually saying, tehehehe~ ^^

So I have really enjoyed The New Frontier, graphics and music are good, same with the voice acting. The illusion of choices is nicely done and I had a feeling of them having an impact, unlike with Michonne. Sometimes the story feels a little bit over the edge, but it's still acceptable. There are four ways Javier's story may end, yet there is apparently no continuation of his story, so it's not really necessary… but it's still nice to see, I think?

Just your usual mediocre story with random twist. A Big downgrade from first two.

Even tho Clem is all over game cover and screenshots, you don't play as her (except few minutes in flashbacks).

Play it if you wanna play. If not, you aren't missing much.

A New Frontier literally.

You play as a new character but still interact with clem throughout the story.

Not gonna lie romancing your brother wife is a bit much

Good gameplay really enjoyed it ,the story was good as well.

We even get Garrus vakarian as a special guest from Mass Effect running like a ninja killing zombies then appearing on a horse to save the day when you need him the most.

Sigh...

This season is not bad, but it's not particularly good either.

You now play as Javi and don't get me wrong, he's not a bad protagonist by any means, but after having Lee and Clem as the main characters it's hard to get to that level with a character we've never seen before prior to this season.

The thing is, not a lot of characters are as likeable as the ones from previous seasons, actually some of them are extremely bland and if they wouldn't have had Clem be a part of this story, this season would've been so much worse in my opinion.

The story wasn't as good as previous seasons, but from episode 4 onward things were starting to get really good, with episode 5 being my favourite, God bless Clem.

It is the third season included in the main storyline of The Walking Dead games series. Compared to the first two seasons, this season basically concentrates on some political conflicts in the post-civilization world, without too many branches. But still, it did a great job with the extraordinary interactive system and a constantly high quality of narrative.
Don't miss this season before you experience the impressive final season.

(Feels like I'm maintaining a pretty big negative-reviews combo here. Don't worry I still enjoy to play!).
We (eventually) start to witness the repetitivity of the Telltale series with such an underwhelming episode. I found the main character (Javi) surprisingly bland and shallow. The rest of the story features even more boring and one-dimensional protagonists. Fortunately, Clementine is not yet affected by this state of affairs. Each character represent a certain point of view of the whole situation and you simply can give them more or less power via some of your decisions. Too few of them evolve significantly between the beginning and the end.

The overall pace of the story is quite jerky as both scare jumps and turns of events become more and more predictable (and so uneffective). I had minor (to sometimes major) issues with display and graphics but let's put that on the account of my old computer. But what I just can't forgive is the pathetic level of facial expressions. Many characters have one or two different facial expressions and that's it. Even Javi's acting sometimes makes him look like a robot, or worse... a zombie! More than ever it feels like you have the opportunity the give your opinion and make decisions at the worst times during the discussions and events. For the first time, playing a Telltale game until its end was quite painful because it feels soooo long and frustrating (especially as you get closer to the end). Overall, the quality of the writing is really poor.

uhh so the first season was great, really, the second had its moments and they are pretty unforgettable too.
this felt like it had no moments, like at all.. this was so plain and shallow and predictable and eyerolling omg....
this really felt like a filler season, at least michonne kept it short being the same
the story is just barely okay..

this mightve been the same thing in the previous ones too but the quick time events are super easy and unrewarding, maybe i expect to much from a game like this but if you do them like this why make them at all
aalso found some weird glitches like characters appearing for a second after their death or after they were supposed to be away idk kinda distracting

fun things in this:
-hot guys with longswords on horses(crazy)
-zombies getting squished by a bulldozer tire
-you can take a bottle of codeine pills:)

”A story that no one asked for.”

A weird in between filler season, for a TWD game series.

Summary

The whole story in “A New Frontier” is about a family that is new to the TWD game universe and they do not appear ever again in the final season (there are some mentions, but that’s about it).

It is definitely not as good as the first 2 seasons and not even close to the final season, the story is still okay I would say.

Unfortunately, Clementine is only a side character in this game.

The follow-up from the previous season is weak at best and feels rushed, years of story are skipped and explained in just a few flashbacks.

Game usually shocks you in the most obvious moments, most of the choices are negligible.

If this was a standalone piece like a TWD: Michonne, it would be easily 7-8 out of 10, but since it is part of the main storyline, I feel like it does not deserve more than 6 and I am being generous here.

And yes, Jesus makes a brief appearance in the game.

Don't get me wrong, it was still fun to play.

Playtime: around 7 hours

Achievements: as easy as it gets

Overall: 6/10

The level of exploration in the game is next to none”
Spot on, that is a huge minus for me, S1 was so great in all aspects, with a lot of exploration, interaction, and conversation. A real adventure game true to its roots.

The flashbacks were one of the things I hated in ANF. Not only because of how they were handled especially regarding Clem but written as well. Though, there is one Javi flashback I genuinely enjoy. The domino one manages to be a flashback that I don't groan at while sitting through. Even though David is as annoying as ever, I really like the dad in this scene. His accepting manner is depressing but understandable and realistic; I really feel like ANF is missing characters like these.

Choices in this season is a whole thing to unbox, to be honest. The fact that literally everyone no matter the situation sided with Clementine whenever there was a dispute, showed the incompetence of the writers, and their inability to make Clem seem stupid enough to where we could actually not side with her.
Wait for a second, they did! She shot someone while trying to prove a stupid point and showed no emotional remorse for him! Then she had barely any consequences for her rash actions, and was back on the road in no time! But you know, that's the only way they could make us hate her or at least dislike her; and they still couldn't.
Characters are just blatantly stupid there's no question there.

As for the major characters, I don't even know who the deuteragonist is supposed to be in ANF. I assume they were going for Kate, but the season honestly just flip-flops around so I don't know what they even wanted to do. Gabe is talked about enough, so I feel like my opinion would just be that on repeat.

S3 was just an interactive movie with nothing else to do
Not gonna lie, I didn’t care for it. I loved season 1 and enjoyed 2, but this one completely missed the mark for me. It's definitely the weakest game in the series.

I would only recommend this if you have played the previous games and want to learn more about The Walking Dead universe set up by Telltale, and follow what Clementine is doing, from another person's perspective. The choices in New Frontier do not feel as difficult to make as the previous instalments and have very little impact as well, since the narrative is pushed towards very specific endings. Thus, the connection with the characters of the game wasn't strong for me. If you're a Walking Dead fan, get this only during a sale.

[Spoilers] Although this game has its moments it is bare compared to the first two season.
It feels like this game contains so much unneeded filler. Plus this game does not run very well on windows 8+ mode. Most of the characters are bland and don't have the material to build a bond with, unlike the other games. Also Clementine is absent through half the game and does not get a proper conclusion to AJ at the end. Finally who ever you picked to stay with at the end of season 2 (unless you were alone) dies within the first 5 mins.
Overall if you are trying to play all the seasons get it but I say just play season 1 and season 2, then make up the story in season 4.

it sucks that the series gets shorter as you get to the newer games. it feels like the first season will always be the longest.

I really like the improvements and additions as you get to the newer seasons though in terms of control and movement. The story is a nice change, we get a look into some new characters and backstories. It's nice to see Clem progressively grow up.

The absolute trashfire of the TWDG series and where previous main characters unintentionally ruined everything.

This season is irredeemably awful and from episode 1 it takes its best foot forwards to completely break its entire fucking leg.

So the fundamental issue with ANF is Clementine. While S2 had her biggest character issue in leading a bunch of brain-dead adults, ANF has Clementine appear multiple times throughout the story to steal the spotlight from the main character, Javi, and completely fuck up the focus of any episode she appears in. ANF provides the worst of both worlds as the game is trying to decide if Javi should be the MC or if Clementine's mostly irrelevant struggles are important too. It leads to a scatterbrained story and Clementine being the MC of ANF or being completely cut out of ANF would have led to this season being so much better.

ANF's cast is fine at the start and honestly, has some pretty good cast personality diversity until E1's plotholes rear their ugly heads toward the end. Clementine is given god status in the cast because duh, she's CLEMENTINE. Nobody holds things against her, and if you do then you are objectively wrong and need to apologize or perish. Clementine makes way too many stupid mistakes this season and NOBODY holds it against her, even when she shoots a dude point blank and LIES ABOUT IT AND EXPECTS YOU TO COVER FOR HER. ANF also relies on you supporting Clementine as the PLAYER and not JAVI. It leads to some seriously strange moments when you consider Javi is spoiling some random girl he doesn't even KNOW. That and since Clementine is a character that was shaped by Lee in S1 (the player), her violent tendencies that happen regardless of your choices seem to invalidate the purposeful teachings of the player in S1. As a person who tried to steer Clementine away from unnecessary violence in S1 and S2, it was shocking to see her just so carelessly trying to off people whenever they became problematic. There are some Clementine branches depending on MAJOR choices in S2, but she's going to be aggressive and violent in any playthrough of ANF regardless.

Later episodes see the complete destruction of the cast, as the characters just stop thinking and start doing STUPID SHIT FREQUENTLY IN FATAL SITUATIONS. This season is riddled with fanfiction-esque love triangles, shipping, and unfitting comedic scenes in serious situations that completely squander these characters as they refuse to change or hold aggression towards each other or Javi. They all default back to accepting each other and it doesn't work out at all. When the characters aren't making you hate them, they're making you hate the dogshit choice brances they're stuck in. ANF is DETERMINED to make your choices invalidated. This game is out to make you feel like NOTHING matters in the long run. Which is hilariously ironic because this game has a unique choice branch in having DETERMINANT characters and the most unique ending route system in the series. Sure these determinant characters were interesting but the main characters and plot choices are frequently useless or go nowhere or point out that you tried to stop them and still happen anyway. If you don't choose to show romantic feelings for Kate, the game will actively go out of its way to punish you for doing so. It makes you wonder where the focus was when these dumb romantic subplots were considered. So much more could have been done with this cast. I really did love them and hated how they turned out.

ANF is a mess, but at least it's funny. My biggest positive with ANF is that Javi is actually a great protagonist and if he was the protagonist on his own without Clementine, he'd carry this season on his shoulders. Javi is VERY funny and VERY likable and has some very unique dialogue choices that differentiate him from Lee in noticeable ways such as being more approachable, funny, and considerate. If you REALLY want to scratch that TWDG itch, i'd suggest buying The Final Season. But, if you NEED more Clementine in your life, regardless of quality...I guess ANF is for you???

Compared to other telltale titles including the other walking dead games this is a steaming pile of excrement. No choice is ever the right choice and most choices don't change anything no matter what you choose. Everything just plays out one crappy way no matter what you do. And to top it off the story is pretty bad too. Unless you really don't want to miss the continuity skip this game.

Having binge-played Season 1 and Season 2 of TWD, I had high expectations for Season 3. While it is worth playing to keep up with the story, it is definitely the weakest season, so far.
You play as Javi (a man attempting to survive and protect his family) with Clem appearing off and on. You learn more about her own adventures through flashbacks.

This set of episodes felt like there was more 'watching' and less 'doing.' It has a movie-like feel with regular death defying escape scenes that must be perfectly timed to survive. But, I did not have a sense of exploring... just following a path and killing zombies and people along the way. I felt less of a sense of participation in this game and some of the main characters are not particularly likable.

Although it could be easily skipped without losing too much continuity, I'd recommend slogging through this 3rd season just to keep tabs on the full story and maintain a better understanding of Clem's path forward.

Been a while since i played one of the walking dead titles from telltale as they had been of steam so i wasn't sure what to expect but you know what i think i enjoyed this one more than any of the previous titles, if memory serves.
I found the story gripping and the acting excellent and some of the choices were heart wrenching to make.
i hear the final title isn't the best but for me this one is an easy recommended.

I love Telltale, i really do. And i love The Walking Dead even more, it's the game that got me into the other Telltale games. The first two seasons, for me, are 10/10. But this one? It's garbage. Pure garbage. Weak story, terrible characters, they don't even TRY at least to make you care about them. Why should i care about Kate, who tried to screw her brother-in-law the whole game? Why should i care about that sissy called Gabe? He cried the whole game. Clem, when she was 9 (Season 1) had bigger b????lls than him. That kid is literally a worse version of Ben, Duck, and Sarah, COMBINED.
Javi... is okay. I swear, Marianna was the only decent character, (Besides Clem) and what have done with her? [spoiler]They killed her in the very first episode.[/spoiler] She had more time on screen in flashbacks, than in the actual game.
And don't even get me started on what happend with Kenny. After all the BS we went through in S1 and S2, [spoiler]they ended his story in a damn flashback, and why did he died? Well, because of Clem.[/spoiler] So bad, the plot is so stupid. And the writing is just as bad, if not worse. Just let me give you a small exemple, okay?

Javi: The second you start getting boners the whole world starts to get dark.
Kate: What are you talking about? Sounds delightful compared to dealing with bloody underwear. I need to get laid.
Javi: HAHAHAHA, i can pull over, it wouldn't take a minute.

This is neither flirty nor cute or funny. It's weird, and awkward. Now, a interaction between Lee and Carley, season 1:

Carely: What i wanted to say was, i've been thinking a lot, about you.
Lee: I think about you too.
Carley: Our group is small...
Lee: You're small.
Carely: You're a convicted killer.
Lee: CaRlEy, JeSuS.

This was cute. And funny. Neither of those choices made you feel awkward. But every possible romantic dialog in this game is so damn weird. I don't know where tf Kate grew up, but flirting with your brother-in-law, yes, even if YOU think your husband is dead, is not normal.

Clem, bless her, is still the same, cute and badass, she's the best thing from this game. The fact that she wasn't the protagonist, is again, a terrible choice.
During my first play, i let everyone die, and i will do it again. I couldn't care less about them. There's no emotional connection with them. No tragedy if one of them dies, gets injured or mad at you. Hell, the REAL tragedy was that i bought this thing at full price, back when it was 23 euro.

Overall, weak game. Weak to say the least, it is a money-grab through and through. I'd call it the worst TWD game, if Michonne wouldn't have existed.

At least something good came out of this abomination.

one of the best episodes of the entire serie are in here, a new frontier. flashbacks and more. relationships. family. what's the most important thing in life? it kept me asking myself tons of alike questions whole damn time, while playing it.

[spoiler] javi, kate, clem, gabe, mariana, david, jesus, condrad, eleanor, even fucking joan were merely able to define themselves 'well'. but they all have something in common. they can do too many bad things to save what they love and care. cause this is the only thing that matters for anyone. a new frontier shows us what matters for them.

the problem is communication. the way the characters communicate with others. and i'm glad this serie told us that fact well.

i know that everyone has their reasons and rights to decide but what's the point of wrongdoings and revenges when states, governments and all officials gone offline?

choose to forgive, choose to move on and let that fear go off then you'll be getting closer to the good ending. stop being jerk. see the feelings of others. and i mean that everyone suffers, sure.

but killing or blaming each other won't help to prevent the losses. it never won't.

anger leads more destruction and total fear.

This game was a whole goddamn rollercoaster ride. Honestly i think i liked this game best in the series so far. This game had REAL tough decisions and i'm not decisive so i had to pause so many times. The decisions carried more weight and it was alot of fun. Even though we don't see from clementine's perspective anymore, I think it was still a ton of fun and is definitely a great sequel in the walking dead series. This game got me real hooked and i can't recommend it enough.

If you enjoy the Telltale Walking Dead series - you'll enjoy this too.

This offers more of the same, with two new interesting features that help it stand out in a different way. While you play as Javier, a new protagonist, for the majority of the game - you also play as Clementine in flashblack sequences, half of which are uniquely tied to your ending from Season 2. The choices Clem makes in her flashbacks while you play as her, decide the choice NPC Clementine will make at the end of the game.

Connected to that is how this game ends. While the overall ending is the same, the surviving characters are completely dependent on your choices (and Clem's). It can result in a barren ending or one rich with surviving characters, which is something missing from Season 1 and 2.

For the second time (after TWD: Michonne), we follow a different character other than Clementine. We follow Mexican-American Javi and his family on their journey through this new world. In their attempt to survive they encounter many shady characters, and no shortage of surprises.

In my favourite Telltale's TWD game after TWD: Michonne, you get to see certain characters and events from a different perspective compared to the other games - which is really refreshing. The new characters you encounter in this game are really interesting, likable and complex individuals, and the story is something you really should experience for yourself. You know that feeling you get after having finished a really fantastic and deeply personal game to you. And you know you may never experience it in quite the same way again, but you feel deeply grateful for having gotten the opportunity to experience it. Just this bottom-less euphoria. That's what I experienced after finishing this game. Can't guarantee you'll feel the same way, or even like it - but you should definitely check it out.

I played The Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2 back when they first released. After losing touch with the series, a friend of mine and I started going through the games, to remind myself why I loved them so much. Getting to Season 3 I was very excited, as it was new content for me, and I was very excited to see what I had been missing out on all these years. Well, 8 hours later, I found out I was missing out on one of, if not the worst story and set of characters I have ever seen in a video game, and maybe in any source of media. Period.

This game looks great. Presentation is amplified when compared to the previous seasons, making for a more immersive time playing through. There are more button prompts to keep you on your toes, which I do appreciate. And as for that, those are about the only compliments I can really give this game.

~Spoiler Free Part~
Clementine, though still a well written character, is very shoe horned into this new plot that Telltale has presented us. She is used mostly as a way to progress the plot with knowledge, and doesn't really have a reason to help these people. The main focus is on Javier and his brothers family trying to survive, which is fine. Introducing new characters to freshen things up is always a plus. The issue; all of the characters, INCLUDING Javier, are either very boring, underutilized, or more often than not, VERY VERY annoying.
The few good moments this game presents the player with are ruined by the fact that there is just about no relationship between Javier and these people he meets along the journey. Story very regularly pushes characters onto Javier, making peoples trust in him feel not earned whatsoever and very forced. Unlike Lee, and even Clementine in Season 2, who often had to earn peoples trust through their actions, and had more interesting and fleshed out backstories than Javier.
The story itself is not all that good. Very predictable, and its characters often do very 'Hollywood trope' like stuff just to have a reason for conflict.

In short, this game is NOT good, and I only recommend it if you plan on playing through the whole series. But when you get to this one, do NOT take it seriously, and try to make fun of it as much as you can to get at least some enjoyment out of its bad pacing, poorly written story, and very unlikable cast of characters.

Okay, lets start with Javier. Why in the world did he almost NEVER say what I meant to say. My friend and I counted every time he would twist the words I chose him to say in a way that no one would ever intend them mean. Also, that backstory. The game alludes to it frequently, but they never straight up tell us what it is. We know he lost his job due to gambling, but what exactly happened with the gambling that caused him to be kicked out of the league. Gabe...wow. He was a very annoying kid with potential (Like Ben from Season 1), but everyone gave him the benefit of the doubt whenever he acted up and let him get away with being a determent to the group.
David has the most lost potential of the cast. The game does not do a good job at developing him and wants us to be against his actions but also to sympathize with him. The last episode had me wondering if I even had a choice in how the story progressed. I, personally, agreed with David in leaving Richmond. The issue, is that the game did NOT want me to do that, and forced the brawl of the two brothers upon us. Clementine has no reason to be in this game. In fact, I adore Clementine, and think this game might have been better without her. Reason being? If she wasn't here, I wouldn't be so worried about the game messing up her character. Or, playing as her instead would made for some interesting game play, where we could still learn what happened in the time gap through flashbacks, but we could also learn about the family dynamic from an outsiders POV, like it already feels like.
One last thing. Joan was a mustache twirly villain who served no purpose but to cause conflict. After all of the things that happen at the end of Episode 4, where she plans to publicly execute David, and kills one of your friends, why in Gods name would anyone in Richmond still follow her??

By far the worst in the series so far: bad story writing, unfinished, and no real choices. I have played every game in the series thus far, and quite enjoyed them. This one is just bad. The developers clearly do not respect us players, and just made this to extract more money out of the franchise. Would only recommend playing this if you really enjoy the Walking Dead games, want to play them all, and can get this on discount ($5).

In the entire game, you make basically no choices of consequence. When the game tells you the story adapts to your choices in the game – it is essentially a big lie. Almost every single choice in the game changes nothing except maybe a single dialogue directly afterwards. The most consequential choices make almost no difference either, as soon after the outcome is the same anyway.

The game is hastily finished. They cut out a lot of content to quickly finish this game. Because of this the story is jumbled and disconnected. Many choices have their consequences cut out ... and thus are entirely meaningless. The developers admit to having had to cut a lot of content. Even some major choices are ignored later on. For example, I shot someone and told everyone about it immediately. Then, at the end characters blame the player for hiding the truth.

The story is incredibly poorly written. No matter what you do, everyone just harasses the player the whole game. It is not entertaining to be wound up the whole game. This game is like a test to see how you deal with the whole world (verbally) assaulting you. For some mysterious reason, even though you are in a group ... you are always the target.

I went in with very low expectations but found myself enjoying the characters and story.
I felt it compelling enough to play it through in one sitting so there must be something good here atleast.
Not too many complaints aside from the horrendous performance; stutters most of the time, freezes between scene changes, then again all Telltale games has had this issue. You do get used to this but that's not an excuse.
Just don't expect anything groundbreaking or GOTY material as S1 and S2.

I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure I can get through this game.

I have adored all the Telltale Walking Dead games before this one, But this one is so off and empty.
Everything from the story beats, tone, the choice of camera angles, character relationships, character personalities to actual game play and story diversion is off. It feels clunky and unfinished and It's so hard to get through.

The things that bother me the most:
The dialogue is off, You'll choose to say something and the character will say something completely different, It won't even be within the same vibe either.
Almost none of the choices impact the story except for dialogue differences.
The Choice difference between players no longer shows up, I assume this is because they started linking it to the Telltale website which is now gone due to them going out of business.

The only thing I do like about this game compared to the ones prier is the random key changes during action scenes. (I.E. pressing Q and then E isn't the default, It's more mixed up with sometimes hitting Q to kill a zombie, or using the mouse, etc.)

All in all, playing this game just feels, pointless, There's so little impact so far it might as well be a movie.

This review may change IF I finish the game, but honestly probably only to tell you for sure if you can skip this game without messing anything up for the next one. (I really hope the next ones better)

Not a very good follow up to the last game. Changing the focus from Clemantine to strangers make it hard to care for the new characters. The CGI is drastically different (In a bad way in my opinion). Not that good of a game. Only buy if you're really invested in Clem's story.

I knew what I was getting myself into. I like The Walking Dead games, even though I know the choices don't matter.
But this game is by far the weakest in the series.

It's 95% passively watching a film.
4% choosing dialogue options that end up not being coherent or mattering at all
1% WASD and Q/E-action / object-interaction. It is even made easier than before - now you can shoot zombies automatically by pressing Q or E in many scenes, so there isn't even the stress of having to aim and get the closest ones first. And no puzzles or interesting things to discover in the surroundings in the small moments you get to move around by yourself.

One of my top 10 games. It is great and the story is absolutely awesome. I got in my opinion one of the best outcomes. I would definitely recommend that you buy and play this game! It is absolutely worth it.

I liked this better than season 2 even though they sidelined Clem in this and made her more of this guardian angel type of character for the new lead protagonist Javier. I f*cking hated most of the characters in season 2, there were more likable characters in this season so i was more involved and invested in the story this time, although the first season is still the best.

Some of the characters needed a lot more development in this, especially Eleanor who's decisions made no sense to me, it could be due to some of the choices i made, but there's one part which was really jarring to me and made no sense, and then just after that there's another wtf moment with her.

There's a lot of flashback scenes i could have done without as well, they didn't add much, and in one with Clem they let you make choices which end up not mattering, and actually a later scene goes against the option i chose for Clementine, so why even bother letting me choose if it not only doesn't matter but then is the exact opposite of what i picked?

I dunno why they didn't make Clementine the main character in this like in season 2, they seem to know how popular she is but then focus on this new family instead. My theory is that they wanted this to be a spin-off maybe and used Clementine to sell this to all of us. It would also explain why the ending is so weak compared to the first two seasons, very disappointing... well the ending i got anyway, i haven't watched the other choices and endings on youtube yet.

To be honest, I stayed because of Clem. Unlike the previous two seasons, the story is messy and it feels out of place. Episode 1-3 are okay for me, I liked the twist they gave there then after that, it became a disappointment. The progression is a bit off, I just feel like some parts doesn't make any sense. The animation has improved a lot though but the choices didn't matter at all, it still goes around what the story was intended to be, not because of the choices you made which sucks

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is the third season of Telltale's The Walking Dead series, where the player plays with Javier, who was a successful baseball player, but his career lost after a betting incident and his brother doesn't like him, because of that. We will know his background story with his brother, parents, brother's wife and with his kids more and also surviving outside.

Graphically this game got better after Michonne. Michonne was good looking, but this was is a whole new level. Character faces better than ever, effects and gore detailed and looks good. For me, sometimes the character faces were looked more polished, like those made from plastic, but to be honest, that was just 3-4 incident in the game. It's really good, and actually not that buggy. Only one time I found a buggy spot, where I noticed the world is not loaded under a gate and there was void, but nothing too bad.

Controls is the same as before, but somehow here it works more better. No difficulties, no problem.

Time to talk about the story. I was really scared, because this game is going to be bad because of this, but to be honest, this was one of the best story from all of Telltale's TWD games in my opinion. The major character from the previous seasons is here too, and also the main story is exciting. It has twists, some of them not that difficult to see, but there were some surprises for sure! Dialouges are not that silly here, characters are more all right. One of the most annyoing character was Gabe at the beginning, but later, he was also quite likeable. The story also getting more darker from Michonne, which I liked it so much. In general, the game has a really good story.

Music and sounds are really got better. Not that boring like it was in previous games, new sounds definetly made it better. About the songs, I really didn't heard them, so I would say, they were all right, however not that iconic like it was Michonne.

Gameplay is same was in Michonne, which means the QTEs are really food, fluid camera movements all around the place, but less explorational gameplay, like collecting items and finding out what is going on. I think in episodes there are 1 this kind of part, where you can go around in a territory, but later, there will be none. I miss these, but I'm not really sad about it.

Long story short, New Frontier really put up the bar, one of the best TWD I've ever played. I can definetly recommend to you guys to try it out, because TWD got more darker, not that sugar filled or weird talking game as it was before. For 15€, I think it's worth it.

You think you have a choice but you don't. You chose to save someone? The other person will die and the ones you saved too just later ( in this game it made me laugh )

As usual, Telltale makes another awesome Walking Dead game but this time in the eyes of an ex-baseball player who lost everything and struggled before the dead took over the world. I highly recommend this game but I would first recommend playing the very beginning before you get to this game because your previous choices mould Clementine's story too.

Far from the level offered by TWD2 and especially the original TWD. The story has good moments but in general is nothing to write home about. The end is especially bad. I would only recommend this game if you are a TWD and/or tell tale games fan. Otherwise you won;t probably enjoy this game too much

After playing walking dead 1 & 2, I thought this was 3 but this is more like 2.5. You don't get to play clementine much at all but have her as a supporting character in the main character story.

Overall, for me the game wasn't boring and made me want to quit but the plot and characters in this game felt out of placed, forced, and just dumb. Also, I just wanted to stay on clementine good side but man I felt like you had to be a dog to keep her pleased :P.

I'm glad I bought this on sale.

The story revolves around a family instead of Clementine, which could've been executed better if we didn't had to see much of the whole family drama flashbacks. Personally, I've found the idea that a family managing to live on the road for a long time without heavy obstacles too unrealistic, but that's just me. Maybe they could've flashbacked on those so we could have a better understanding of how these characters evolved. Also all the decisions you are making in Clementine's flashback are fake and won't do much as the story still is determined to get to that point.

The graphics in the game have been improved, the gameplay mechanic itself is pretty boring. Nothing much added honestly.

This was definitely my least favorite of all the games. I felt as though I didn't make any choices that really impacted the end result, unlike the other games where I felt as though I really had a hand in who lived, died, and the relationships between all the characters.
The characters themselves were nice, but there was no real development that I found. It felt like I was watching a movie.
The gameplay itself was also not as fun as the two previous games, and the choices you made in them doesn't effect this one in the slightest. All in all, I just got this game to move on to the next one. Hopefully I didn't waste my money.

this game was so bad that i refused to put it down and come back to it later because i just wanted to hurry up an get it over and done, so i finished it all in one setting. i ended up herniating a disc in my lower back from sitting in one spot for too long when my body isnt used to doing that and i still cant lift heavy things or bend over properly. so all this game gave me was a headache, a bad back, and the ability to get a few references clem makes in season 4.

Before I start, I should point out that mostly this review will be a rant about narrative of the game. This game is the worst Walking Dead game unfortunately. It feels like soup opera version of the series with all the slaps and over dramatization. Saddest part of all, it is not even good for a soup opera standard. [spoiler]The family is Cuban (they emphasize that point several times by the way) but weirdly they only talk Spanish in a handful of cases like calling Walkers, “Muertos”, even the elders of the family is the same. And guess what, one of them is a professional baseball player, surprising isn’t it? As you can understand, most of these character features are there to add a cultural/racial variety to protagonists (They already had the black and female one before). Motivations of other characters doesn’t even make sense. Just at the beginning of the story, they send kids to an unknown area, even though there is no real reason for them to hurry. Since it is a soup opera, most of the events are predictable of course (like Mariana’s death, hostage situation, etc.). Story of Jane is a big fuck you to player, Clementine’s shooting of Jane while holding a baby is completely moronic and the AJ tattoo is just out of the blue. Tripp and Eleanor are helpful as a saint at first, then they start to whine. You would expect it to be opposite but apocalypse can do that to you I assume at this point. Clementine’s godly/awful shooting skills is another bad writing. One moment, she shots a man accidently while standing still, then at another scene, she headshots everyone in a distance. Immersion is pretty bad even without these badly written characters; another character can open a locked door that you have checked a couple seconds ago like it is not locked, a herd can catch up to a van easily, plot holes like Clementine’s injection of unknown drug of unknown dosage to a baby and the siege. I mean everyone is standing in the open against automatic guns, they attack a town with less than 10 people and walkers (you can actually see them). However, in an instance the whole town is crawling with walkers, they are even going out of the houses and none of these seasoned survivors don’t have a gun while they are under siege. Of course, they all die easily. Plus, no one other than the main characters are able to survive and no one tries to save other people. David being alive is a real soup opera element obviously. And the love triangle that no one asked isn’t even original for the series. It was at the first season of the TV show. You can’t see any character development for Clementine from old games other than hitting the knee. By the way, how the hell can Clementine can even love that whiny egoistical moron, I do not get it.. No one tries to loot the bodies that they have just killed for bullets and weapons, because who needs those, right? And of course, you are a baby sitter to these seasoned survivors in this game too. Other than that, game forces you to choose between some idiotic options like Conrad/Ava-Tripp. Lastly, at the end of the game, Jesus comes back with a couple guys to rescue against a huge town that pillage every town around it.[/spoiler]
Game has the same mechanics as Michonne stand-alone. Other than that, modelling of Jane is different and it is really disgusting. Some of the dialogue choices are just for surprising the player with their ambiguity [spoiler](like “tell off” option which makes you tell Kate will leave him)[/spoiler]. Unfortunately, you can’t pass the summary part at the beginning of the chapter. Contrary to other games, there are lots of visual bugs and performance is pretty bad.
By the way I love the hypocrisy of weed in the modern world. Even though, there are more people who smoke tobacco, most of the productions don’t show any smoker characters or show it as a shame but if it is drugs, that means it is so cool! Yay, fucking drugs.

I liked the game a lot and I didn't see any problem with story not making sense unless you make certain choices like others said, but HOLY CRABS are those walker graphics bad. In big groups they are partially see through for some reason and its just 50 of the same walker moving in the same way at the same time. I can't believe they were that lazy.

The Walking Dead Season 3 follows the same gameplay style as the previous games.

This time, you play as Javier, a former baseball player and gambler, instead of Clementine. Since I'm not Clementine, and she is the main star of the series, I made choices knowing she would not be hurt in the same way as a supporting character would. I think that's a design flaw that altered how I weighed each action. There are several flashback sequences where the player chooses what happened to her prior to this story's start, but ultimately those choices didn't leave much of a lasting impact (after seeing the results of the final chapter) in my opinion.

I didn't like the dialogue and the choices presented in this game. Some of the dialogue choices weren't clear enough to me as a player, leading me to inadvertently pick the wrong action.

Obligatory score: 6/10

Thumbs down because there was no option for punching Gabe; what an incredibly unlikable character then you made him a love connection with Clementine; that fvcking wuss. Story is good still, just that Gabe was in it.

This season has lots of drama such as family, love and loyalty. Clementine is older and wiser in her decision-making skills and she's badass I love her.

I would absolutely recommend this season if you played both 1 and 2
I enjoy the modernity of this season as it shows how big the series is aging over time, but I cant help but absolutely despise the model style this time around. Somehow 1 and 2 have better models than this season, as the characters are so incredibly glossy! Obviously this is not a reason to hate the season or shy away from it.
A New Frontier shows you the life of a Hispanic household and how their paths have crossed with Clementine's during the outbreak. You get many, honestly too many flashbacks of this Hispanic family and how life was before the outbreak and how life was as they were just starting out alone.
Unfortunately so, every character is forgettable except Javier; the main character in this season, Jesus, and Tripp. The characters in this game cant seem to wrap their head around the fact the world has changed, and it makes it frustrating as you have already gone through bullshit as Clementine and Lee, its not something you just forget, the switch to Javier's family from Clementine's journey in my opinion is way too drastic. It doesnt show you new perspective but rather it shows you some people had it too easy and cant make proper decisions regarding the new world.
I absolutely recommend playing this game before playing the final season, and playing it after you finish season 2. But I just want you to know that you should prepare to be disappointed, dont set any expectations and dont expect to see Clementine often.

Not what you'd expect to continue Clementine's story, but the game isn't bad. Don't really like playing as another character that you have no idea about, but the new characters grow on you as you play. Not a bad season, but they could've done better to continue Clem's story. It is still a must play.

The third season of Telltale’s successful narrative game franchise is full of interesting characters the player won’t care about. It’s painfully human but insufferably cliche. The season is ambitious in scope and underwhelming in execution, stumbling far more often than it succeeds.

There are seeds of greatness here, but A New Frontier never gave them the necessary time to grow. The Walking Dead started as a story about people. It was about a convict looking to redeem himself and a child growing up in an unfair world. A New Frontier chases after these figures but no matter how hard it runs, it always remains firmly in their shadows.

Javier is a compelling protagonist in this third season and despite Clementine becoming more of a side character, he still provides an interesting story with various grey moral choices throughout.

It's technically much more advanced than the first two seasons with better graphics and lighting, however it's undeniably less emotional since the characters haven't had as much build-up.

But seriously Telltale, why the hell [spoiler]did you disrespect Kenny by killing him off in such an insulting way! He's been with me for the whole journey and you make him helpless and have him eaten alive by walkers?! He deserved so much better[/spoiler] Fuck that.

The Walking Muertos: A New Frontier

Alright, moving on to this game, The Walking Muertos: A New Frontier is the third game (or the third season) of the series. I remember playing the first episode then had to rewatch the rest on YouTube when they came out, so my memory was a bit fuzzy and didn’t remember the story much. I completed it this week, and despite some of the issues that this game has, it does not deserve the hate that it gets.

Short Version

Pros:

Great story (as usual).
New and very likable protagonist, Javi.
Interesting characters, but not as good as the previous games.
The choices have better impact on the story and characters.
As before, your choices will carry over to the next TWD games.
Great point & click game.
Well optimized.
Great Soundtrack.
PRAISE JESUS!!

Cons:

Illusion of choice (again).
Some events of the story didn’t make sense.
Encountered a few bugs and glitches.
Improved graphics but not in the right direction, in my opinion.
Some character models don’t look good.

Long Version

Story

You play as a new character called Javier (or the Hispanic version of Luke from TWD:S2) after the events of TWD:S2. One day, you and your family were scavenging for food and then they got caught and captured. Javier is saved by Clementine, and with her help (and other characters that you meet along the way), you will save your family and find out who is responsible. I like Javier, despite what everyone says; he is relatable, funny and really loves his family. It is also a nice change since I played as Clementine in the last season.

Like the other TWD installments, all the characters in this game are interesting, and they sound real and believable due to the excellent voice-acting, well-written dialogue and their unique personalities, but not as memorable as the previous games. The only familiar character that you meet in the game is Clementine, but if you watch the TV series or read the comics then you will know a character named Jesus, the saving grace of the game and just an awesome character.

Like any Telltale game, the way to progress through the story is to choose certain actions and choices that are presented along the way. The story adapts to your decisions, as it builds your character and changes how others view you. A lot of the choices that you make in this game will also carry over to the next seasons. In addition, the difficult choices carry more weight in this game, as you can view at the end of the final episode that choices that you make in the game and the relationships with important side characters that you built along the way.

Most of the difficult choices that you make in the game present some moral dilemma and have visible consequences (better than TWD:S2), as you won’t be able to see certain characters and some might not be on your side in some situations. Your relationship with Clementine also affects the story and its ending, so watch out for that. However, there are a few difficult choices that will get the same result no matter what choice you pick.

However, there are choices and actions that can drastically affect how characters feel about you. Like its predecessor, you can always use the silent option if you just don’t want to talk, or just want to see how the story carries on without you being involved in some of the decisions, but those aren’t common.

As for the other choices you made in The Walking Dead: Season One and Two, they don't affect the story much (since you are playing a completely different character), but Clementine does bring some of them up from time to time and It makes it feel that you're actually part of the story and that your choices had an impact on her character.

Now let’s talk about the ending of TWD:S2, and one of the main reasons why people didn’t like this game. The final choice I made was: [spoiler]shot Kenny, abandoned Jane and went alone with the baby (I love Kenny but he was a danger to the group and had to be shot, NOT KILLED though, but I had no choice).[/spoiler] During the game, those final choices will be portrayed through flashbacks, and that’s about it. A lot of people who picked the other choices were angry about it and it’s understandable; it is lazy and makes that choice feel meaningless. However, I do not feel that way; I am satisfied with what I got as my choice led to a “visible effect” on Clementine (that will carry on to the final season).

Speaking of Clementine, she is of course an interesting side character this time around and she is more badass than ever, and it is always good to see her. However, there are some moments and choices that she makes in the game that just made me shake my head in disbelief and say “that’s not the Clementine that I know and love”.

That goes to the rest of the game, as there are some moments in there that made me want to scream out at my damn screen. I don’t want to mention spoilers but just to give out-of-context examples: when searching an abandoned place, don’t put your damn weapon aside, always carry it with you. And for the love of God, when you see a walker right next you, you either attack it or F****** RUN!!!! Not wave your arms and scream for help.

The game has multiple endings that depend on the difficult choices that you make in the game. Overall, I really liked the story and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, despite some of the issues that I mentioned in the story.

Gameplay

This is a point & click game, and the gameplay is very similar to its predecessors; you can walk around, examine and interact with items and objects in the world, overcome obstacles to progress through the story, talk to other characters to know more about them, and performing a few intense QTEs along the way. Nothing new is added to the table and that about covers it with the gameplay.

Graphics

The series is known for its comic centric art style, and for some reason the developers scratched it and tried to make it more realistic. Even though it looks visually impressive and an upgrade from its predecessors, I don’t like it and the game loses its magic without it. Some of the characters don’t look so good, especially Clementine; her face looks so glossy and clean (not a speck of dirt) and she doesn’t look 13-years-old at all. However, the zombie models look scarier and more detailed, just without the comic art style that the game is known for.

Technical

The game is pretty well-optimized; no crashes, there were a few bugs and glitches; textures looking blurry and weird “beams” coming out of some characters (had to restart the game to make it go away). Since Telltale got shutdown some time ago, players are unable to see their choices after completing an episode of the game. To fix this issue, I recommend following this guide:

Soundtrack

The soundtrack is composed by the one and only Jared Emerson-Johnson. The songs are topnotch and well made as always, as they give you this dark post-apocalyptic feeling in the game.

Final Thoughts

This is not the best game in the series, but it still delivers a great story and is still worth your time and money. It took me almost 8 hours to complete it, shorter than its predecessors but it felt right. Now that I completed this game, only one remains...

This is a great game and a fantastic story! It's much more streamlined than earlier Telltale offerings, which helps with the pacing and story telling quite a bit. Much less downtime fumbling around clicking on random objects, which was always the weak point of these things. Very solid mix of new characters and older ones from the series. Lots of player choice. Exceedingly well done.

The third chapter of Telltale's The Walking dead looks prettier than its predecessors but sadly lacks the emotional impact of the previous two games, while decent in its own right, it isn't as good as the games that came before it.

For being the 4th installment with the same core mechanics, it still manages to keep me interested in the story and game play. If you have played the previous games, I wholly recommend giving this one a shot. My only complaint with this is the length, however. It seems much shorter than the other games in the series. Full price may be a difficult sell, but on sale, it is a great game to pick up.

The new graphics are beautiful but some of the old characters like Edith and initially Clem look kinda off.

Initially I wasn't totally on-board with Clem being a side character in someone else's story but anyone's story can be interesting in the walking dead universe so it wasn't bad.

This game isn't nearly as good as the first and the second but its not bad, overall if you are a fan of the series then you should play it.

The choices shown at the end of each episode in Telltale games does not work here for me, shows a Telltale server error. Also very few character models in the game, in a crowd scene I could see 6 of the same person, hilarious but diminishes the immersion.

Don't know why this one wasn't received quite as warmly as the others. It's great! As long as the fact that you don't play as Clementine isn't a dealbreaker you'll probably love it.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is Season 3 of the Telltale The Walking Dead series. It continues The Walking Dead story by starting you out in the shoes of newcomer Javi, but places you in Clementine's shoes during various flashbacks throughout the season. The game follows Season 2, but this time around it's a much better outing than the previous one. I found A New Frontier to be almost as good as Season 1, and it provided an engaging and enjoyable continuation of the story.

If you've played the previous two episodes, enjoyed the story, want to see where it goes, or love Clementine, you have to play this episode next!

Another very solid entry to the Walking Dead series. The focus of this story is on protagonist Javier, an ex-pro baseball player taking care of his brother's wife and step children after the apocalypse. His story intertwines with Clementines, providing a chronological continuation to the previous games. The choices are still very hard, there are a bunch of different endings, and most of the characters were really well written (I mega loved Jesus, Tripp, and obv Clem). Personally, New Frontier is my least favorite in the main series (haven't played michonne's game bc eh) but I am in no way saying it's a bad game at all. Sometimes it felt like people would do things that seemed way out of character just to progress the plot (looking at you Eleanor) and a few other characters were just annoying sometimes. Other than that though, 100% worth a play, I really had a good time with it. The games that focus on Clem/Lee/AJ just hit different for me! The Walking Dead is absolutely one of my favorite series of all time and this is a canonical story in it. Just play it!

A New Frontier won't be the best Walking Dead Season, but it sure has perfect writing, awesome characters and Clementine makes a come back, although it offers some new characters, the truth is not all of them are as charismatic and the franchise isn't yet on par with the first season. Even so, A New Frontier will delight the usual Telltale fan, taking no risks in gameplay mechanics but making every choice meaningful during the final moments of the five chapters.

As a fan of the telltale games here is what i thought of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier

This game has its ups and downs but imoo it has more downs than ups. This Walking dead just does not have any emotional attachment to any character. It follows a complete different person than clementine which i didnt like. No episode in this walking dead has any sort of Depth to it. With each new character that was introduced to the game, it didnt give us anytime to learn about them. A DEAL breaker for me with this game was the fact that all of the previous choices that you make in the 1st and 2nd season, unfortunately.... Did not carry over.

5/10 after telling us for 2 seasons that your choices will reflect on the future of the series to then LIE about it and make none of our choices mean anything is a really crappy thing to do.

I liked how Jesus Christ scolded me about retaining my humanity, and then kind of wanted to fuck at the end. Amazing. Just the best thing I've ever played, ever. Just as good as the other wd ones but still, yeah. This really good, dont know why yall hated it, yall must suck

I liked this game quite a bit. It has good graphics and a good story line. I would definitely recommend picking this one up and any of the others now that they are back on Steam.
