In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#183 out of 555)... it's time for Warhammer 40k: Space Marine.

It's 100% unadulterated melodramatic edgelord nonsense, but it's very good melodramatic edgelord nonsense.. Combat feels very tacticle, especially the chainsaw, and the story takes itself (as you might expect from my description thus far) very, very seriously. Ultimately the setting isn't one I particular care about, but if you're fond of the Warhammer 40k universe, you'll likely find Space Marine to be a very engaging game that does the setting proper justice.

My favourite thing about this game is that it makes you feel powerful. The game feeds you upgrades at a rate that allows you to struggle against difficult enemies, and then to overcome them if you use the tools you've been given correctly, and defeating a group of enemies by using your weapons and abilities wisely is very satisfying. The combat is fun and the campaign is decent.

Probably the best 7/10 third person shooter you can buy, for sure recommend playing on the higher difficulties. Campaign is not too long and has a decent amount of enemies. The gunplay and melee combat are still very satisfying, and executing an enemy for more health gives you a cool animation.

Not worth $30 though, I would wait for a sale or try to obtain a steam key in a cheaper way.

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only war.

This game is so good that almost ten years later, I still regularly come back to it and rate it in my top games of all time.

The campaign is great, good story and characters but it's made by the brutality of the combat. Before DOOM 2016 became the game it is, Space Marine pioneered 'push forward combat' mechanics by forcing you to regain health by spilling the blood of your foes. It's good fun, if a little short with some rather generic feeling level design, but it is serviceable and stands aside for the main event; slaughter in the Emperor's name. Your armour even becomes progressively gore soaked in SP, and its a shame that didn't carry over to any MP modes. The voice acting is particularly stellar, as is the case with most 40k games, with Captain Titus (Mark Strong) leading the show.

Where this game truly stands out is it's exterminatus mode. This is one of the most intense 4 player coop PVE modes out there. You fight waves of lunatic orks using majestic and suitably brutal imperial weapons, with other objectives thrown in like point capture and randomly generated challenges. You go through 4 maps/stages on each game. The mode is executed perfectly, with battles always getting epic and frenetic providing a challenge no matter how good you are.

What makes all of this so long lasting is the controls. They always do exactly what you tell them to, its snappy and fast, allowing you to switch between stabbing and punching your foes into oblivion, to unloading double barrel storm bolters at oncoming targets and back again instantly, allowing for much finer control of your combat rhythm than most games. This allows you to massacre the ridiculous hordes you face in exterminatus with precise efficiency, that is for once exactly what you would absolutely expect from a genetically modified super soldier raised for centuries of unending warfare against the nightmares that wish to exterminate mankind.

The weapons are all unique and savage, even the smallest firearm, the humble bolt pistol, can do better than its larger brethren if used well. And while on the topic of unique things, relic gave us full on customisation of our marines' armour patterns and colour schemes.

My only complaints are that there aren't more maps for exterminatus (there are 8 total) or more PVE modes that build on it. The other is that certain weapon upgrades are gated behind the PVP multiplayer, which isn't something I have much interest in. I will probably play this for many more years to come and pray that the Emperor delivers us a sequel. Hell I'd pay full price for a next gen remake that only updates the graphics and audio. Provided they don't try and make it cartoony and dumb like DOW3...

for many people its their introduction to warhammer 40k and thats a bloody bladdy great thing cuz its probably da bestest 40k title of them all right next to dawn of war. its just good simple fun and the fact that nobody has tried to flesh out and build upon the gameplay with a sequel or spiritual successor is a fucking romeo and juliet fucking death of jesus christ world war 100 level tragedy that gnaws off a fiber of my soul every time i remember it. seriously somebody needs to take a shot at building on this game without being an overambitious tiny dev team with like a wad of gum and paperclip as their budget (you know EX-FROPPIN-ACTLY what game im on about)

gw better endorse a sequel/spiritual successor for this come on you toy maker people think about all the DOSH MOOLAH think about all those 40k fans jizzing their brains out and going so braindead from it that all they can do is buy your plastic soldiers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is by fair one of the most greatest games I have devoted time too.
With 150 hours of PC and over 2000 Hours on PS3, I have devoted great time to this game as it holds a great story mode with a great Main Character of Captain Titus of the Ultramarines. Characters are built well and each has a personality to come with them, fighting against Orks and as well the Servants of Chaos with your two battle brothers makes a great story. I will say they could have been times when more dialogue was put into the story as there is a lot of moments which you are stuck on something and no one is saying a word.

the multiplayer a other hand is a great 3 class warfare. 3 classes you fight with on the battlefield with each having they're own weapons, perks and tactics to move with them. Certain perks upgrade your weapon, Certain perks help you deflect damage, its by far great class based warfare. The Customization is decent, including around 7 to 8 armor sets for each faction (The Space Marines and the Chaos Space Marines). You can really go deep down and change each part of your armor along with its color pattern. You could be a Zealot Black Templar or you could be a Secretive Dark Angels or be your very own chapter colors or Chaos Warband. Armor sets take time to get and it will push you to process and put time to getting your armor and perks. Simply sticking to a one weapons and getting challenges done, you will process fast. If you just play to play maybe for a hour or two each couple of days, then the XP is decent. It takes about 40 to 60 Hours to get to Max lvl of 41, depending on how you play will effect your leveling rate.

I highly recommend this game, even if the community is small and getting into multiplayer will be hard with the expert player who triple my time on this game, over 6000+ hours on this game time, it will be rough to fight against players who got mad skill but picking up on how to evade and play your class well, you will become a well rounded player, like getting good at anything, it takes time. Also everyone has bad games, sometimes the emperor gotta put you in your place.

Serious join this small community, its a great game with a great community, get the game!

A third-person shooter and hack and slash game. Take the role of Captain Titus and kill all of the orcs.

I know basically nothing about Warhammer, but this game certainly makes it seem interesting. The plot isn’t all too revolutionary, the twist midway through wasn’t quite obvious but you know something would go wrong at that point, but it is still enjoyable to experience. I kind of skipped over the audio logs partially unintentionally, but maybe there’s even more of intrigue there.

As for the combat, it’s fun. Gunplay is decent, melee combat is limited but still decent, you occasionally have a really awesome toy to play with, the standard weapons are cool enough on their own. You’ll mostly be mowing down hordes of orcs. Their chatter is amusing, they sure can keep in high spirits even when you’re slaughtering them by the hundreds.

Would recommend it overall, particularly if you want to mow down some hordes, shoot stuff, cut stuff apart, or if you just like Warhammer.

WH40K: Space Marine deserved to sell a lot better than it did. Granted, I had my doubts that Relic, a developer that had only made RTS games, could pull off an action game. However, much like Creative Assembly, Relic's foray into a different genre turned out to be a surprising success. At first glance, Space Marine looks a lot like Gears of War but it plays much differently. GoW is largely about hugging cover while Space Marine highly encourages you to wade into battle. Hacking apart hordes of Orkz with your chainsword never gets old. The combat isn't especially deep or challenging but it is satisfying and the game has good pacing, resulting in a short but sweet experience.

Of all the action-oriented WH40K games, Space Marine is easily the best and well worth your time if you enjoy run and gun/hack and slash action games.

Not a long game, finished within 7.5 hours (the rest were spent while I was afk). Not a bad story campaign, and the game play was good. It felt like they left out some story element at the end of the game. Gun play was more fun than melee, the gun variations were amazingly good. Didn't try the online mode but it looked promising.

Pros:
The game play is fun and never really gets old
Because of the amount of weapons you can use your favorite play style
Cons:
The story is just ok

Should you get the game?
If you want it for an amazing story line, no. If you want it for a game where you kill things as a mighty spacemarine, yes.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is hands down one of the best 7/10 game I've ever played. At first glance it might look like nothing more than an uninspired Gears of War ripoff with a 40k skin slapped on, but beneath the surface lies a true cult classic; one that will appeal to both 40k superfans and newcomers alike!

Sure, the game suffers from many of the common tropes that often plague third-person shooters (linear & repetitive level design, dumb enemy AI, generic story, etc.), but the combat... BY THE EMPORER, THE COMBAT! I've never seen another third-person shooter where the combat singlehandedly carries the rest of the game like it does in Space Marine. The blend of gunplay and melee is phenomenally executed. There's appropriate weight behind every single pull of the trigger, every swing of your blade, every single tectonic step of your character's Power Armor suit. Every detail blends together seamlessly to truly fulfill the power fantasy of playing as an unstoppable Space Marine fighting a hopeless battle against unending alien hordes!

TL;DR - Space Marine is one of the best 40k games out there. Whether you love 40k for the lore, or are just looking to RIP & TEAR some xenos like you would demons in DOOM, you NEED to play this game. It's worth every cent.

Sad to see this game not get a sequel seeing there could have been so much more to be done. As a 40K fan playing a third person shooter hack n slash its a nerdgasm waiting to be splurged all over. The story is where it shines for me a group of 3 Ultramarines, Titus (your character) the captain, a rookie who quotes the codex and follows it by law and the wounded hard ass. You explore through the ruins and trenches of the imperium assisting the Imperial guard fighting orks for 90% of the game uncovering a plot to open the Worp to release Chaos. You fight your way through hordes of enemies also uncovering you are impervious to the warps powers.
Sadly we never got a sequel to explain any of these just theories.
Overall the game is a fun ride wish we got more third person/ first person 40K games with a decent story.

This is genuinely some of the most fun I have had in a video game. Play this if you like:

Hack and slash combat

SPHESS MAHREENS

Killing Orks and the like

Don't play this if you like:

Complex stories (Blue man shoot green man is about as complex as it gets)

Super complex puzzles

Boss fights that are fun.

Killing Orks hasn't been so fashionable since Lord of the Rings.

If Spec Ops: The Line is an experimental caviar dish of a third person shooter, then Warhammer 40k: Space Marine is a solid grilled cheese. Nothing extraordinary or mind-blowing, but what it does, it does extremely well. The core of the game revolves around the combat. The shooting is weighty and satisfying, with a varied, situational arsenal to carry it out. The same can be said for the melee combat, as you seamlessly transition between the two with a combat roll. Some of my absolute favorite moments in the game are when hordes of Orcs mindlessly throw themselves at you like the zombies in Days Gone, at which point you absolutely obliterate them into slithereens with whatever combination of weapons you want. It's gory and visceral, just as it should be. This leads to a sort of hybrid identity between Gears of War/God of War, but the Warhammer spin and a decent narrative leads to a unique enough experience worthy of its own title. It's an incredibly solid game, and one of the most underrated and enjoyable third person shooters I've ever played. If you're a 40k fan, this is a must play. Even if you know nothing of the franchise, its still an incredibly fun game worth your time.

A fungal outbreak leads (“SPACE MARINE!”) to chaos on the planet Graia. Can Captain Titus (“SPACE MARINE!”) and his fellow ultramarines (“SPACE MARINE!”) clear the land of this nasty, spore-spewing catastrophe? Is there a super secret (“SPACE MARINE!”) weapon that can obliterate the fungal problem itself and not the (“SPACE MARINE!”) entire fuliginous planet? Well, better get used to hearing “SPACE MARINE!” on your way to the answer.

The Good:
  • The story was more interesting than I thought it would be.
  • They don’t really delve into the lore when you play through the campaign, but there are hints about various things in the Warhammer universe you can pick up on.
  • There is a community that plays the multiplayer regularly.
  • Customize the look of your character for MP and co-op. Make them look like they are from a pre-existing chapter, or invent your own.
  • There’s a decent weapon variety, but you can only hold 4 weapons at once and certain weapons replace others.
  • The soundtrack definitely fits the game and goes from tracks that say “determined” to “ heresy” to “all hope is lost” to “get off of my planet”.
  • Constant blood eruptions from the ork hordes as you tear into them with steel and lead. I’m a fan of the Orcs Must Die series, so you know I’m all about that.
  • If you want your health back, you have to earn it. Regain health by brutalizing your enemies with an execution.

The Neutral:
  • The overworld is bleak, brown, dusty, and apocalyptic. This may turn off some people, but it fits and it’s not all you see the entire game.
  • The game could have used more sensitivity options. When I set it to my liking for normal movement/weapons, it’s too fast for sniper scopes. The sensitivity isn’t too high to where it becomes obnoxious, but it’s not as precise as I would want it. Sensitivity buttons on the mouse helps.

The Bad:
  • If you want to 100% the game, it’s going to be a grind. Most weapons have challenges to complete, and while there is a community keeping the multiplayer alive, it would be near impossible to do them all in actual games. You’ll need grinding buddies; and I’m not talking about the fun kind.
  • Again, if you’re going for 100%, you’ll have to get 40,000 kills. It’s quite the grind, but there are three methods you can use:[olist]
  • Use the TRENCHES checkpoint under Chapter 2 and work your way to the turret. Kill all but one of the enemies with it and then restart from checkpoint. You’ll load in relatively close to the turret instead of the original checkpoint. This method will grant you 50-60 kills each time.
  • Use the FALLEN BROTHER checkpoint under Chapter 14. Pick up the autocannon and shoot the endless waves of enemies as they spawn. The autocannon has 400 bullets, so you’ll have to reload the checkpoint when it runs out.
  • Load up a private game of Exterminatus, choose Arena 1 under Hab Center. If you can make it to the end of wave 5, you’ll have around 700 kills. Die before the wave ends instead of proceeding to Arena 2, then rinse and repeat.
  • [/olist]

  • There’s a lot of camera shake. If that bothers you, you may have to enjoy this game in small doses.

  • Pro Tips:
    • Small enemies don’t need to be stunned to execute them.
    • Stronger enemies require a different combo to stun them so they can be executed (melee, melee, kick instead of just kick, for example).

Let’s be honest—I know very little about the Warhammer universe. What I do know, I picked up from the various games I’ve played. But this game is like the others in that it makes me want to know more. And while the ending to the game isn’t a massive cliffhanger or an ambiguous mess, it left room to continue the story, and it sucks that it hasn’t happened. In fact, I’d like to see them make more games like this and explore the other chapters. There is a different chapter that appears in the game at one point, but they’re not there very long, and I wonder if knowing more about the lore would have made me excited about their presence.

I believe I owned this game since 2011 and only just now got around to playing it. I was always drawn to it, but never committed until now. Too bad I didn’t play it sooner; definitely worth it.

    VERDICT:
I've never been into the tabletop version but put into a game and focusing on one particular person, it's a whole different ball game and 10x more fun! The story was good and the gameplay was brilliant, even though this game is 10 years old, I still got as much fun out of it if it was a new game. The only downfall I saw was the online play, sadly that is dead and only comes to life if it's organised.
    Total Score = 63/100.

    Gears of War

    GAMEPLAY:
In Space Marine, the player engages enemies with both melee and ranged from a third-person point of view. The player character, Titus, has regenerative abilities. When his health gets low, performing some actions can allow Titus to regain a portion of his health. Titus is accompanied by the characters Sidonus and Leandros for most of the missions, though some missions are performed alone. The game features a fury meter that, when filled up, allows the player to either slow time for aiming or perform powerful melee attacks.

The starting weapons include a combat knife and a pistol, though the player can acquire other weapons. The game also includes a new weapon not featured in the table-top game known as the Vengeance Launcher, which can shoot sticky grenades.

The game's main antagonists are the Orks and the Forces of Chaos. The Orks are an alien race of brutish warriors. The Forces of Chaos are an even greater threat, and can summon monsters that live in a parallel dimension known as The Warp. Portals conjured by the Traitor Legions allow daemons to enter the battlefield.

I played this game back on the Xbox when it came out, it's still just as awesome now! It's one of the best games that has been made for Warhammer 40k hands down. I still don't know why we haven't had a sequel for this game. It's down dirty gritty and gory, just they way 40k should be. Highly recommend this game!

This game is great. Visceral weighty combat where the enemies are the health kits in a similar vein of Doom 2016, albeit not as intense/fast. Visuals and sound hold up spectacularly for a 2011 released game.

I first played Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine back when it came out in 2011. I was quite familiar with the setting and the general Warhammer hobby as a whole and I still remain a loyal fan of the IP. Games Workshop seems to play pretty fast and loose when it comes to who gets to develop their games though and the slew of mediocre to trash Warhammer products on steam is substantial, but I'm confident in saying that Space Marine has definitely managed to pass the test of time in asserting itself as one of the better 40K video games on the market. The combat is your pretty typical blend of hack-n-slash and third-person shooter, but it's in the attention to detail that Space Marine manages to score extra points with me. The developers over at Relic Entertainment have done an absolutely stupendous job of crafting a game world that is beat for beat the Warhammer 40K world of my imagination. The namesake Space Marines look and feel and sound like the trans-human super soldiers they're presented in the lore to be. Relic Entertainment just nailed the presentation of this game and as a fan of the setting and lore is what makes this game so memorable to me. Bottom line, if you're a fan of Warhammer 40K check this out. If you're just looking for a third-person shooter though and you don't care about the setting, I'd probably go and take your money somewhere else.

This game is fairly straightforward, in fact maybe a little too much. Its a run of the mill 3rd person shooter with pretty much zero unique features, it doesnt even have a cover system. Despite these things I still enjoyed my time with it, and I am glad I took the time to play it. The game seems to do a pretty good job sticking to the 40k lore, and I was happy to see some familiar enemy types from my long history with 40k as a brand.

One of the biggest shortcomings of this game are the environments, they are very very very boring and tend to repeat themselves throughout the level designs. The work on the character and enemy models is quite satisfactory, I only wish that the levels looked even half as good.

The weapon variety is pretty decent, although the melee combat felt a little redundant and boring. The game does a pretty good job at introducing new weapons when it starts to get a little boring. Overall I was pretty satisfied with the choices of weaponry.

The story is EXTREMELY predictable, but thats ok because all I really wanted to do was kill A LOT of Orks. Speaking of killing Orks, I was impressed with the sheer amount of enemies this game throws at you. Although, I didnt find much difficulty in the combat until it ramped up very drastically about 3/4 of the way through the campaign. As for the Boss Fights, they are very few and very lame.

    Overall: 6/10

    Here after watching Astartes
Great campaign ,music and voice acting is awesome. My hair sits straight up every time Mark Strong says literally anything. Art style ,combat and everything fits perfectly with the badass space marine theme they are going for.I'd dare say it even came close to Halo level badassery in certain moments.
As for the multiplayer its generic, messy and dead - as expected - but there are some really cool customizing options there, plus you can play as a chaos marine
Really wish they'd make a sequel, hopefully Relic Entertainment will pick it up again someday

A game about warhammer 40k. Not a game in a genre that uses 40k as a setting, but, as much as possible, a game that really takes the relentless, brutal, grim dark of 40k and does it's best to highlight that crunchy, nasty, bloody ideal. The slow mo on the executions and the life it gives you are a crystallized moment encapsulating the zealous madness of eternal war.

A rather fun romp through the 40Kverse as a Space Marine. It's a hack and slash and shoot adventure game so it can get repetitive but its short enough to not overstay its welcome. The later half of the game did get frustrating at times though. Up until this point, Orkz are the main enemy and the game seems balanced against them. There is quite a difficulty spike against the later enemies, Chaos Space Marines. They seem to hit much harder and it's easier to die. Psyker enemies are also extremely annoying.

The conclusion of the game is also a bit unsatisfying. Story was interesting but it's unfinished since the game was originally planned to be the first entry for a trilogy. There won't ever be any sequels so prepare to be disappointed if you were looking for more.

Actual combat and gameplay is fun. There's a good variety of both melee and range weapons. Thunder hammer is extremely fun to use - but its balanced by not being able to carry heavier ranged weapons. Be sure not to overuse the Thunder Hammer as there are some fights that are a pain with only melee and pistols. The other weapons are fun - great sound effects all around. As usual, I love bolters, especially the storm variety. The best moments of the game are probably when you get a jetpack. It's a blast to jump around and slam down into hordes of enemies.

Final Boss was weird. It was a gauntlet of enemies with no checkpoints and then ends in Quick Time Events. The Mid boss was more satisfying and was an actual boss (even if much easier).
Overall, worth a play, especially if you enjoy Warhammer 40K.

As someone who is already a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe, this game is exactly what I am looking for! It is nice to have a visual outlet for all of the lore and stories that plan through my head. So far I have only really experienced the single player campaign but I look forward to trying the multiplayer aspects of the game (I am told that even now there is an online presence for the game). If you are new to Warhammer 40k I HIGHLY suggest that you look into the expansive lore universe to get the full effect of this game. However, even if you have no idea what any of it is, it is still fun to murder xenos scum via the holy chainsword

There isn't much to it besides that this is a fun shooter. You get to slaughter orks as a Space Marine, what more do you want? Story and lore is also consistent to 40k lore as an added bonus. Only downside is that the online is dead so mostly paying for the campaign.

its a YES ! buy this game.
an oldie but a goody , the graphics weren't great even for a 2011 release an the mechanics fell a bit clunky in spots but nothing game breaking, a lot of fun with a solid storey behind . Its a good example of what a lot of games have lost these days, FUN !
    its a YES.

Entertaining 'hack&shoot' action in the W40K universe.
A bolter in one hand, a power-axe in the other and lots of Orks to use them on is good fun.
Apart from a few (boss) fights where the difficulty spikes like mad the campaign gives the right amount of challenge, but also the feeling of being a bad-ass Ultra Marine.

Ok hear me out please. I made this negative for a particular reason. not cause the game is bad. so far in the campaign i have played and what i have seen of yt vids this is a fantastic game for someone looking to play as a space marine and kick some @$$. so i %100 RECOMMEND for the story and the gameplay. what I DONT RECOMMEND is getting the DLC content with it. I got it on sale so i only wasted like 7 bucks but YOU WILL NEVER USE ANY OF IT. The Multiplayer is dead and without getting the devs to come back and program bot support you are never going to use any of it. I just want everyone to be knowledgeable of this ahead of time so you dont feel like a sucker like i do. lol

Also Devs, if you read this which i doubt, just toss in some bot players for multiplayer. with its popularity i actually think you would see a returning fan base to rival Eternal Crusade almost. its a really popular game among 40k gamers. its only problem is that it is dead and you cant get in a lobby.

Space Marine is a highly enjoyable third-person shooter with some hack-and-slash elements. The transition between shooter and hack-and-slash is completely seamless, making for some unique combat. However, the game has a handful of problems that become most evident in the latter half, and there's some underwhelming levels and weapons sprinkled throughout.

This game gives you an assortment of powerful melee weapons and guns. Melee weapons are potent, transitioning into melee is smooth, and performing melee executions on orcs is fun and satisfying. Your arsenal is generally exceptional for mowing down orcs, but some weapons feel more niche than others. I mostly used the bolter, stalker, and the battleaxe because I found them to be the most reliable weapons in the game. Some weapons felt like they burned through ammo too quickly, or outright had a better alternative. Your loadout will likely come down to personal preference, but I felt that it generally favored reliable all-arounders. In addition, you sometimes acquire a jetpack that allows you to do crazy aerial hit-and-run attacks. It's a really fun powerup and it never felt like it outstayed its welcome.

The level design in this game is mostly decent by third-person shooter standards. There's a lot of variety and some grand environments. Some of the environments look massive, with the only caveat being that you can't explore much of it. The game does a good job introducing new enemies, and it felt like sightlines and cover were different in every arena. Verticality is a key part of some arenas, but it's used rather sparingly. Most arenas in the first half of the game are clearly designed to make melee viable, but this isn't as evident in the 2nd half. Some of the arenas are unreasonably open and usually funnel crowds of tanky enemies at you down corridors. There was one area in particular where there were a ton of long-range enemies that I had to very slowly whittle down with the stalker rifle while melee enemies constantly spawned, and it felt like it took an eternity.

This game can be split into two different halves - the first half where you fight orcs, and the latter half where you fight demons (this game is my only exposure to Warhammer 40k, forgive me). The first half of the game generally feels more like a horde shooter, but the latter half slows down and feels more like a cover shooter. The enemies you fight are tankier and tend to use hitscan weaponry; causing melee combat to be far less viable. There's still some good battles to be had (in fact, my favorite fight was a massive three-way battle late into the game), but I didn't find it as satisfying as mowing down hordes of orcs. Some of these fights are utterly awful, especially when you fight the flying enemies that appear at the very end. There's also no actual final boss fight, which is really disappointing.

In addition, this game is rather easy. On my blind playthrough on hard, I only died 4 times throughout the 7 hour campaign, all but one of which being in the first half of the game. You get a potent regenerating shield, healing is accessible, your weapons are powerful (and some get more powerful as the game goes on), and most battles are uphill. If you want a particularly challenging game, you might want to look elsewhere. If you just want the relatively mindless satisfaction of annihilating tons of orcs with fun weapons, this is the game for you.

Overall, I would highly recommend Space Marine. It's a great hybrid of genres that I'd like to see attempted again. The ending is obvious sequel-bait, but this sequel is unlikely to ever come. It's a shame, because I can't think of many other games like this one, and I couldn't help but want more after I finished it. Highly recommended (unless you're a huge fan of orcs).

    SPACE MARINE AUGMENTED MOD

as a young lad growing up with 40k lore, space marines were one of many fascinating parts of the universe, but also probably my favourite..i mean, super human space knights, right? I longed for a game where I could actually feel like I was a true son of the emperor..

then it happened.. I thought I was dreaming. It couldnt be possible.. I am but a humble xbox360 teenager and I am never that lucky..but it was true. it was actually announced. However, I approached with cautious optimism. fully expecting to play a mediocre shooter set in my beloved space fantasy universe.

release date got closer.. it hasn't been cancelled? its actually going to happen?

release date gets even closer..THQ/relic announce a little pre-order bonus skins.. I think to myself: crap I hate pre order bonus dlc and dont even worry about it...until I read the devs have had a moment of clarity and decided to include the greatest siege masters of all time, the greatest legion of them all... THE IRON WARRIORS.

I am but a poor virgin. I cannot afford to preorder the game. My cautious optimism remains, and excitement grows.

the game comes out.. I go to buy it. Inside is a code for Chaos skins and my beloved siege masters who made Dorn cry at the Iron cage.

I get home and play the campaign... FUCK YES MARK STRONG

I play the multiplayer and genuinly enjoy it. it wasnt perfect, but i had fun. I would say that the jump pack assault marines can kind of ruin vs mode. exterminatus was fun as shit.. xbox broke, I moved on for a while.

Built a pc, bought it again because i really do love it. community isn't super popular but it makes sense...

The game goes on to live in a special place in my heart, and I thank the devs for making an enjoyable 40k experience...and then..

    MULTIPLE YEARS LATER

I find a mod called Space Marine Augmented ...

the emperor saw fit to breathe new life into one of its most trusted servants. All of his faithful citizens should experience the glory that is the mod, Space Marine Augmented.

Loved this game on release. Especially loved the PvP multiplayer - it was great. Then support for it was withdrawn and players were forced to provide their own multiplayer platforms.
I think it's disgusting that the devs are charging such a high price for a game they've abandoned, but yet still want to milk the dedicated player base.

This game needs its official multiplayer server back.
As a stand alone game, yes, I'd recommend it for the single player experience. If the servers were still up and running, I'd recommend it for multiplayer, too. Sadly, from a multiplayer experience, it's more or less dead. So that gets a big thumbs down.

Warhammer 40k Space Marine is my second Warhammer experience besides watching Astartes. The finer details of Space Marine's campaign are almost lost in the frenetic tedium of travelling a set path, mowing down hoards of melee and ranged enemies for hours. I enjoyed the well executed third person gunplay that rivals even the most renowned FPS's. Smooth aiming, violent recoil, excellent sound design, and well animated enemy deaths make every weapon feel powerful, but firing the scoped stalker bolter and lasercannon into orc heads is an especially visceral experience. The story and voice acting make for an epic narrative in which a trio of juggernaut soldiers quest to save a human planet from extinction, while they try to unravel the mystery of why the planet was selected for invasion. The normal routine of thinning out the enemy hoard on foot is occaisionally interrupted by overpowered jetpack sections; slamming into a crowd of enemies with a war hammer as I fall from the sky was an awesome experience.

While I may remember the overall experience as a blend of Call of Duty and Dynasty Warriors, I'm excited to experience more Warhammer and Warhammer 40k content. I would like to know more about the human, orc, and chaos factions within this universe.

No other 40K game captures the feeling of being in the 40K-verse as a Space Marine like this game!

You charge into a group of small units like gretchins or traitorous heretics and they blow up!

They run and cower in fear as you unload your bolter at them leaving nothing but their blood painting the walls!

You execute an Ork in the middle of their formation with everyone shooting at you IN REAL TIME and you emerge from it healthier than ever.

You rain down some sweet Emperors wrath via the jump jet and power hammer, instantly dispensing of the xeno filth below

All this, while giving 0 fucks or emoting as the world and people around you die.

    Burn the Heretic,
    Kill the Mutant,
    Purge the Unclean!

PS: The Guardsmen were as heroic as ever! i really liked their representation here!

Must be played by every Warhammer fan, good story of Titus, simple but going good with game. The game is actuion combat one, with focus on melee. Theres shooting but i think it could be done better. Once i got my hands on hammer i basically paved my way through the game with it. Locations are ok, not too fancy but still good with lore. Story is not long. Overall good to get on discount. If you are new to Warhammer, its a pretty fun starter.

    Warhammer 40k Michael Bay Edition.

But seriously the game is great. It's a third person shooter that's all action and satisfaction. Guns feel good, the sounds are pretty good, shit explodes and you're rewarded for being up close personal and aggressive. Graphics aren't going to hold up the best but they get the job done.

There's tons of weapons in this game and some good progression going on as you complete levels with a decent mix of enemy variety and scenarios. Story is pretty simple but enjoyable to go through. Your basic there's some fucking orcs attacking this planet send in the mega badass ultramarines to beat the living crap out of them before the world blows up or some crazy Warhammer stuff. Then oh waddaya know some other galactic threat happens. Game is pretty epic, and you can get it for couch change. Give it a go.

HOW IS THIS GAME IN 2021? A great game for the Warhammer fan! If you are new to Warhammer, then some things and sayings likely won't have any effect on you. But this in no way affects the progression and gameplay or understanding. Kill all the green guys (Orks). The combat is decent, fast-paced and the glory/rage kills plenty. I still find new death animations to this day! A small range of guns and handheld weapons help saw, cut, and explode green body parts across the vast manufacturing ........ World I think. I am not sure if it is a planet or a giant factory. Or maybe the factory is the planet! THAT'S NO MOON!
Anyhow Gameplay mechanics are I don't want to say you're basic hack and slash. But kinda and feels a little repetitive at times. I believe this is mainly due to the landscape and scenery never changing. It's a factory, it's grey and that's about it. Some small lore details can be found.
I cranked the setting up to 2k and high and was getting 200fps lol - That being said, this game is easy to run at high frames and resolutions. Mostly due to its age. The 3d models still look clean and not from a 10-year-old game. Mostly the age of the game is shown in the textures of the landscape. Not enough to take you out of the game. But it's also not amazing.
BIGGEST ISSUE! - The bankruptcy of THQ and no 2nd or 3rd installment. The online DLC is fun but not many people play. You have to check the community and forums to find online games. Jumping into an online game randomly did not yield any results. No-fault of the game, just age.

I recommend this game to any Warhammer fan or not. 100% a buy if its on sale

P.S - How does this compare to the PS#3 version? - BETTER FRAMES, BETTER IMAGE QUALITY, And Faster Load times compared to PS3 - PS3 Main advantage is the game can be found used sometimes for under $10 and is still great fun with mild hiccups and slowdowns. Not worth the extra cost if you own the Steam version

    Pretty solid run 'n gun
The fight dynamic is pretty good. Doesn't stand out with any amazing unique features but is still absolutely fun to slowly get really good at dispatching the green menace, but not too good, as constantly adding in new enemy types and weapons to match keeps it interesting and challenging. And the occasional break in regular game play for some different, temporary mechanics keep it all the fresher (only one of which is a qte)
However, the controls can be clunky, some game play things don't work at all like you would expect them to (though you can learn to work with/around them) and a couple deaths confused me so much that I have no choice but to believe that they were some kind of glitch
The story is not one to talk about in length, but it is better than they had to make it. And that's always welcome
It really does feel like like love was but into the game over all
A good 6-10 hours of good fun (and maybe even a gateway into the 40k universe for some people)
But as always, everything 40k comes at a 24k price, so maybe wait for a sale despite all my praises

    Introduction:

This is another great game from another great year in gaming (2011). This is one of a few Warhammer 40k games that I personally think are absolutely necessary to play if you want to get into Warhammer 40k. The story is kind of bland and forgettable, but the hack and slash and third person shooter gameplay is absolutely amazing.

    Story and Gameplay (Spoilers):

The story as mentioned above is alright, but nothing too memorable. The game follows a squad of Ultramarines led by Captain Titus, the soft spoken but stern player character, Sergeant Sidonus, an absolute bro and voice of reason in the party, and Leandros, a turbo nerd Space Marine who bases his entire character around fanatically following the Codex Astartes. The game opens up with an Ork invasion on the forge world of Graia, led by Ork Warboss Grimskull. Grimskull is one of my favorite characters in the game because of how over the top and entertaining he is, especially by Ork standards. The Orks are invading Graia to capture and loot an imperial war titan by the name of Invictus. Immediately at the beginning of the game, we see what the game has to offer in terms of gameplay. The hack and slash elements are near perfect. I would say that the gameplay is a combination of both Gears of War and Devil May Cry. There is a little bit of jank that keeps it from being perfect, and it's a bit too linear, but overall, the gameplay is very well executed.

At one point in the game, we meet inquisitor Drogan, a 'twist' villain in the game. I know the intention of Drogan's character was to set up a character that is supposed to shock you with his betrayal, but honestly, I saw his treachery coming from a mile away. His overall mannerisms and personality came off as really suspicious from the start and I did not trust his character at all. Once Drogan inevitably betrays you, we are introduced to the main antagonist of the game, Chaos Lord Nemeroth. Nemeroth is an incredibly boring villain that puts me to sleep with his constant monologuing, and is easily my least favorite part of the game. I did enjoy fighting the forces of Chaos as well as the Orks, but Chaos has a few annoying enemies to deal with, such as Bloat Drones and the Tainted Psykers. After defeating Grimskull in an alright boss fight, we confront Nemeroth, and his boss fight sucks as much as he does. The entire thing is an incredibly easy boss fight that was over with in 5 minutes. After we beat Nemeroth, the game ends with
Titus being detained by the inquisition to be investigated for heresy. I honestly thought this was a terrible ending and an insult to Titus's character.
Final Thoughts (Spoiler Free):

This game has fantastic gameplay and an okay story. The game focuses more on what it is good at, which is the combat, and I respect that about it. It's also a bit short and pretty easy overall, even on hard mode, but the satisfying gameplay kept me coming back to it.

    Final Rating: 8/10
