Greetings, Sailors. ⚓
Today, we’d like to expand on the topic of madness and the terrifying events connected to it in Terror: Endless Night.
As we mentioned in our last devlog, the sailors aboard HMS Chione must battle the creeping insanity that seeps into every corner of the ship. This manifests through Madness Events — situations where you, as the Captain, must make difficult choices, each with its own moral and mechanical consequences.
Every event is told from the Captain’s perspective — your voice, your judgment, your burden.
Let’s take a closer look at two such events.

⚓ Overboard
“One of the men broke several bones today after leaping off the side of the ship straight onto the ice, screaming that he was sacrificing himself for our salvation. I believe the effect was quite the opposite — the crew’s anxiety only grew, especially among those who had to collect his shattered body from the ice.
What worries me more, however, is the Chaplain, who tried to justify the act, claiming the sailor acted like Jesus. The others said nothing… but I’m certain they disagreed.”
As Captain, you must decide how to respond:
- Condemn his actions — this will increase crew loyalty toward you but anger the Chaplain Mike Thompson, one of the ship’s key officers.
- Praise his sacrifice — this will raise the Chaplain’s loyalty but reduce the crew’s overall trust in your leadership.
No matter your decision, madness aboard the ship will grow, and the injured sailor will be hospitalized, unable to work for a long time.
But such an event is only the beginning of the horrors lurking in the minds of your crew...

???? Demons
“Early this morning, the entire ship awoke to screams.
In the pitch-black corridor below deck, we heard not only cries of agony but a dreadful, almost joyful roar. When I arrived with my officers, the sight was unspeakable.
One of the sailors stood there, swaying in a trance, his axe dripping with blood. Around him lay two crewmates — slaughtered with unimaginable fury.
The killer sobbed that he had slain demons who came for his soul. But those ‘demons’ had human faces, and now their skulls were split open like rotten pumpkins.
Stranger still — the shards of one skull seemed to jut upward, like jagged pieces of ice.”
Such a horrific event demands a decisive response from the Captain.
You may choose to:
???? Execute the murderer immediately
“I couldn’t allow the corruption to spread. Two corpses were enough.
I drew my revolver and, ignoring his pleas, fired straight into his face. The shot echoed through the deck — blood and brain matter splattered across the crates behind him.
His body fell with a heavy thud. I hoped it would serve as proof that only the Captain’s iron will can keep this ship from falling into the abyss.”
⛓️ Isolate him from the crew
“What that man saw was real — to him.
In this darkness, truth bends easily.
I ordered him shackled and locked away.
But soon, sailors began gathering outside his cell, listening to his ramblings — descriptions of demonic claws and frozen skin. Some even took notes.
I pray no one believes that within his madness lies the key to our salvation.”
❄️ Use the bodies as a warning
“I ordered the mutilated corpses dragged onto the upper deck.
The murderer, stripped and bound, was forced to look upon his deeds.
Guards stood watch, ensuring every crewmember passed by the grim display.
Hours passed in the freezing wind before frostbite took his hand — along with the demons from his mind.
Let all see the price of madness.”
Each decision will have different effects on crew loyalty and the madness level aboard the ship.
Some choices may hold the insanity at bay… others may only feed it.
But the outcome — and the burden — will always rest with you, Captain.
