Despite the merciless executions, several of Aldric's students managed to escape. They could not come to terms with the loss of their teacher and began to look for a way to bring him back. And one day, they came close to saving him.
Having concentrated their forces, they created the Gauntlet of the Abyss. The artifact was supposed to be an improved version of the mask that Aldric had created, but reinforced with runes for security. The students intended to use the gauntlet to break into the sealed observatory and remove the stone mask from Aldric's face and bring him back. But the Abyss does not forgive mistakes.
The students approached the observatory, killed the guards and tried to remove the protection with the gauntlet. However, the first demon to put on the gauntlet paid for it with his life: purple light poured out of his eyes, mouth, even cracks in his skin. He did not scream. He burned from the inside until his flesh turned to ash.
The students saw what had happened and fled, throwing down the gauntlet. The artifact's fate is unknown. Perhaps it can be found in some forgotten crypt.
