Greetings Terrarians!
Spring is finally here - we think - sort of? Seriously, last week we had both 80F days and a day of snow. Come on nature, make up your mind! On a serious note, work on 1.4.5.7 continues unabated. As we mentioned previously, this post launch fix update is heavily focused on balance. Console and Mobile continue to chase right behind while preparing for Crossplay. The Terraria Board Game Kickstarter copies are finally hitting the hands of players (exciting!). It really has been an eventful month - and year - so far, with so much more to come. With all that being said, shall we dive into the details?
What lies in wait for Terrarians everywhere this month?

PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA 1.4.5 - A DELICATE BALANCING ACT INDEED!
March saw the release of 1.4.5.6 for PC. This was mostly a bug/exploit-focused hotfix, with only a few additions that were mostly related to localization feedback. We know it was hard to follow the act that was 1.4.5.5's dash button, but bug fixes are important too! We can certainly see the light at the end of the tunnel at this point, we hope. We also know that 1.4.5.7 will be a bit of a different and more difficult beast to tackle.
If you missed any of the hotfixes thus far, you can find those changelogs here:
TERRARIA 1.4.5: BIGGER & BOULDER CHANGELOGS
As mentioned previously, for 1.4.5.7, the team has been hard at work under the hood since then focusing mostly on balance. To remind everyone of our philosophy going into that work, we wanted to re-share the below from our earlier "Status Update" post:
We're already looking into some adjustments based on the feedback shared from everyone. It's too early to share anything - but we're cooking. This includes looking at individual items as well as the performance of the various classes in the game. It isn't a feasible goal for every class to have exactly the same performance given their different tradeoffs, but we do want to be sure that every class feels viable, fun, and at least in the same ballpark power-wise at similar skill levels. What that looks like remains to be seen - but we are giving things a look.
We have gone through threads upon threads of feedback on this front. We have checked in with our testers of varying experience and levels of expertise. You can probably be pretty confident that we have seen almost any complaint on top of reading countless suggestions at this point in the process. That isn't to say we know it all, but we do have a a decent idea where the pain points are in the class/item balance ecosystem. We are also going to be clear that we are not looking to go and tweak every item in the game - rather we are focusing on the areas of most need (for example, early game Mage) and seeing what we can do to bring things in line for each class with the primary goal being to make things more fun and interesting. We know that whatever we put out for 1.4.5.7 will draw a wide array of opinions/feedback. We just ask that everyone keep in mind that we have clearly shown that we are listening - but at some point, we as developers have to make the final call on some things. Sometimes, different groups of players have directly opposing opinions on a topic, for example, and we have to make a judgement call. All that said, we do think that Terraria 1.4.5.7 will be a nice step in the right direction.
All that said, you probably came here for a little spoiler, right? Obviously, early game Mage is a space where there have been few options since the release of Terraria...

What if we told you that Gem Staves have been learning some new tricks...
Well, that's it for this month, Terrarians. Keep the notes coming in, and definitely keep your eyes peeled for the remaining 1.4.5 fix/patches that will be coming your way soon! Then it is on to Crossplay and then...

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM
[/img]
Hello everyone!
On April 1st the regular monthly update release of tModLoader for 1.4.4 will go live. This month's release contains a few bug fixes and new interfaces to allow more customizable and lower boilerplate autoloading. As always we are grateful for the massive amount of community participation in developing and testing new features each month. We will continue to update the 1.4.4 version of tModLoader with bug fixes as we work on updating tModLoader to the Terraria v1.4.5 update (Bigger and Boulder).
In our continued efforts to provide a safe environment for all players, we recently introduced a Workshop Rules Agreement (https://store.steampowered.com/workshopeula/1281930/). Modders publishing to the Steam Workshop will be required to accept these rules the next time they publish an update or new mod. We encourage modders to review the rules and keep them in mind as they create mods. We hope these new rules as well as our continued moderation will help keep players safe.
In regards to updating tModLoader to the Terraria 1.4.5 update, we mentioned last time that it is an involved process that will take many months. The tModLoader team spent this last month moving thousands of code changes over to the new Terraria source code. Now that this initial process is mostly complete, the code is in a state where we are ready for experienced contributors to help us go the rest of the way in restoring any remaining functionality. This process as well as any other big changes desired by the modding community for this update will take many months still.
We ask that players and modders remain patient as we work on the update. tModLoader will continue to work as expected during this process, but please note that Terraria players and worlds played on the 1.4.5 update can not be migrated to and used on current tModLoader.
Modders and users should also keep an eye out for our monthly Steam announcement on the 1st where a complete listing of bug fixes and API changes for this month's release will be listed. The in-game news button on the main menu will direct you directly to the announcement once it is live.
We look forward to seeing how mods make use of these new features. As always, if you are having issues of any sort, definitely don't hesitate to check out our FAQ on github or reach out to us at our Discord.

PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS
Hello Terrarians!
Alongside the PC version, we remain hard at work on patches this month. 1.4.5.5 went live last week, containing fixes to some of the most pervasive bugs we've seen reported, with 1.4.5.6 to follow today (it may even be out for everyone - except Switch, where we are waiting on approvals - as of the posting of this State of the Game). Suffice it to say that bugs will always be on our horizon when releasing updates - but in addition to that, we are also constantly reading your critiques and looking for things to improve.
On that note, one piece of feedback we've received recently pertains to our crafting menu - notably that there are a few missing features / inconsistencies compared to PC. Though touch / gamepad considerations prevent us from making it completely 1:1 with PC in terms of appearance, we wanted to take some time to address what we could - namely colours, layout, size, quantities, categories and bulk crafting directly accessible from workstations.
Though bulk crafting requires a little bit more time in the oven before we're ready to show it off, we have the other changes ready to share with you today. Here's an interim look at the new crafting UI!

(We know this is on imgur - sorry UK folks, the file was just too large to get onto Steam, where the file size limit is REALLY small and we haven't found a great third party alternative that works with Steam yet)
Note that this is still fairly early on, and subject to change in future patches. That said, we hope this helps bring the menu more inline with PC, and are looking forward to seeing how everyone finds it!

Until next time, Console & Mobile friends - thanks for all of your love and support!
