???? Batman - The Telltale Series ????
Prologue
My Telltale adventure, which started with The Wolf Among Us, continued with Batman, a character I admire from the world of comics and cinema. The rich story and choices of the game make you feel that you are really in control, while it certainly manages to immerse you in the atmosphere with its beautiful music and sound effects.General Review
Batman - The Telltale Series also contains Telltale's action mechanics in a very nice way. In addition, this action system, which has been specially added for a Batman game, even allows us to calculate our movements and choose how to fight. It was a production that really fascinated me, including its unique visual style and the difficult choices it contained.Epilogue
This type of interactive story is not a game style that is for every player. So; if you like this kind of games, or if you are interested in Batman, you can definitely give it a shot. But; if you are going to play this genre for the first time, I recommend that you start with a production that looks a little simpler, such as The Wolf Among Us.

I am Batman
-Disclaimer: I know there are avid DC fans out there. Please know that the Telltale variation has its own outlook on the Batman universe.- You play as Bruce Wayne, the boy who lost both of his parents in an alley to a burglar who went after Martha’s pearl necklace and Thomas’ thick wallet - Thomas being a philanthropist and accomplished surgeon and Martha being an heir to Kane Chemical. Thomas did his best to protect his family, but due to a trigger-happy fellow with a side dish of panic, the burglar went to end Thomas and Martha in cold-blooded murder. Or was that how they told you in the comics? Some of the villains are best buds with Batty McBats; even the plot, how they became an evil-doer, has changed. However, it works very well. New crime syndicates, estranged frenemies, even a different perspective of the parents. It makes no sense, yet Telltale has made it fit perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle. How Batman became Batman, is the same narrative as that of the comics, TV show, or any mediums through which you’ve encountered Batman before. That has not changed, nor have his abundance of fancy bat-gadgets while being a criminal detective, with a charming sense of vigilantism. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2714220234The Batmobile
Similar to all Telltale titles, you’ll be given Quick Time Events (QTEs) to smash down a button as quickly as possible or have a negative outcome. Compared to the previous games, I found Batman to be more action-orientated, which I appreciated. There were a few scenes where I would press the buttons with their combo prompts in a manner; like I was playing Batman in a fighter arcade. It felt smooth, engaging, and thrilling, with a bucket of butt-kicking. There are limitations on when you can move freely and the purpose of that is just to get ready for an upcoming QTE, in case you had a bag of popcorn in your hands. I’ll be honest, I was eating some nom-noms, when a situation popped up and I couldn’t react fast enough. With that being said, Batman, literally, tends to keep you on your toes for a surprising dialogue or a fight scene that escalates from one to 1000 in a matter of seconds. You'll read the Gotham newspaper, hear the latest scoop on the television, and even look at an index that mentions all the people and places you’ve encountered throughout your playthrough. Though the lore is different from original comic books or other source material, I still found the additional news update with Telltale’s variation of Batman lore to be enticing. The Caped Crusader does have an array of fancy gadgets; from using the Batarang to his grapple gun and everything far and in-between. Now, this is an earlier timeline of the Dark Knight, so don’t expect Superturd (Superman) to be here; therefore, you will not see the Kryptonite Spear or other gizmos that are used on villains, not from that part of Gotham lore. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2714247350The Bat-Signal
As with any DC Comics publications, we know that the universe, in general, is dark, and Batman is the darkest of the dark. Telltale did an amazing job with the atmosphere - to a park that seems to invite criminals with graffiti and garbage lying about, to alleys that had his parents killed, with criminal lapdogs murdering people for chump change. Even with Gotham being so dark-- despite being sunny outside on a clear day-- it still portrayed how formidable the environment is and at times, how gritty, vile, and putrid the villains that reside within the city can be. Birds chirp for a hero to help the residents that are in despair. Water droplets hit the puddle from a leaky pipe. Gunshots and sirens are heard all across the city while the screams of innocents are echoing to your ears. Punching someone in the face made my eardrums reverberate, and that brought a smile to my face. The voice actors did a phenomenal job - from the scripting to the horrendous laughter, everything was rehearsed amazingly well. Everything sounded so real, as I was in Gotham myself. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2714245062 My only gripe with the settings of Gotham was the lack of traffic and pedestrians on the walkways and streets. For a city that claims to have a population of ten million, I would expect to see a lot more people on the road. For what purpose does it serve when Batman has multiple streets to himself with no other vehicles on the roadway? For me, it made the immersion drop off.Batman’s Gadgets
OS: Windows 10 CPU: i9-10900k GPU: GeForce RTX 3070Ti Ram: 32GB Storage: Evo 870 4TB (SSD) The game ran smoothly and sounded astonishing. No lag, stuttering, crashes, or similar effects. It ran at a consistent 144 frames per second.Alfred’s Advice
I’ve heard of some complaints about this game on how it’s not a ‘true’ Batman title and that it does not follow the DC Comics, or even the shows or movies closely. Well, that is the point. This is Telltale doing their variation on the Caped Crusader. They did change up quite a bit of the plot, but if you keep an open mind and realize this, the story will not disappoint you. I enjoyed the narrative and setting quite well. It lived up to DC’s dark nature and prestige villains that we all know and love (or hate).

VERDICT: Now that Telltale have been found out that choices really don't matter has made most of their games pretty sour but you can't deny that they make one heck of a good story and this one is no different! I enjoyed playing both Batman and Bruce, both having their own battles to face and using their powers to their advantage which is cunning in their own way. I would say this is the third best Telltale game I've played, which is a huge compliment to this game, it's a shame Telltale went bust. Total Score = 84/100. SIMILAR GAME LIKE THIS? / REVIEWER PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead GAMEPLAY: The game is based on Bob Kane and Bill Finger's Batman character, though not tied to any previous adaptation of the work in film or other media. The player takes the role of Batman, and as his alter ego Bruce Wayne. Telltale Games has stated that playtime will be split evenly between them, though at times the game will offer the player a choice of whether to approach a situation as Wayne or as Batman. Despite differences in continuity, Batman fits closely with the comics. However, his personality and actions are determined by the player's decisions throughout the series. The game is set a few years after Wayne decides to become Batman, to give the player some control on how they want to play the character without ties to any previous movies/games. ■■■■■■■■□□ 8 / 10 Bruce Wayne has a joint personality. Be the Bat!
Batman fits seamlessly in the Telltale format. A bit of QTE-action, with high speed scenes at times. It's quite daring to tell story about a superhero which we all know very well, and has several iterations of films and series published with praise. This game takes part of those stories as fact, and creates an own universe of the stories aswell. I think we as players happily accept the fact that there are several universes of such heroes, and tolerate many differences as long as the soul of our characters fit. This game doesn't do that entirely, however I can appreciate that.Way too much!
I'm just gonna say it, there are way too many villains in the game for its length. This is a short game for Telltales standard. There could have been more introduction for the characters, more background, more motivation. The game takes its time while we play as detective Batman every episode. On the other hand it's nice to have a cookiecutter game for some easy entertainment.NO!!!
- batmobile is no magical Lambo. - the batcave is meh. 79/100 Oh, just like every TTG game, the voice acting and visuals are very high quality, even with their ageing engine. It's a shame TTG is no more. I don't like their QTEs, and wish these were just interactive movies. With their departure there are no more games like this, and that's a damn shame.

Datman: Ace Detective
I realize putting an inside joke as the title is a risk, but I'm willing to take it. Everyone who's anyone is aware of who Batman is. However I feel a lesser known thing is that more than a vigilante, Batman is one of if not Gotham's best detectives. This game does a wonderful job of showing you that important perspective. Sure Batman has a lot of gadgets, but he's also very smart and accomplished. You get to be the vigilante detective Batman and also handle Bruce Wayne's life alongside it like Batman would really have to. Sometimes both Batman and Bruce are needed somewhere or to intervene with someone, being Bruce has its own set of advantages. The renditions of some of the characters of Gotham here were a bit questionable at first. It doesn't take long for it to come together and the greater nuances to shine through though. It does a wonderful job at taking characters capable of and currently committing jaw dropping cruelty and shining an amazing light of humanity on them so that you not only fully understand them, but also want to help save them as they're also victims of the world around them. Unlike many Telltale games this one actually still saves your decisions between chapters, compares them to others and actually does you an additional solid by giving you an overview at the end of what kind of Batman you chose to be which I think is a super cool edition to an already engaging game. There's also the unique option to leave Batman/Bruce's decisions to a kind of voting system so you and some friends can cooperatively see where your decisions take Batman. Honestly though I almost wish there was an ingrained cinematic version of your playthroughs that you could watch after because the story on this is fire. It just sucks you in almost a little too well, lolPros:
+Story too good to miss +Great handling of the Batman character and the balance between Bruce Wayne and Batman +A good take on classic characters +Collaborative play capabilities +The Telltale decisions functions are still working and so is the ending condensed profile overviewCons:
-A lot of the quick time events seemed unnecessary, many of them were good, but some almost felt like filler to fill in dead space so it made the action otherwise good action feel choppy in some places -It left me wishing they did more with certain characters that became loose ends, but there is a second game so hopefully that one clears that up

First Impressions
We’re so used to Batman being in action games that it was surprising to hear that he’d star in an adventure title. I was skeptical about Telltale Games’ player choice-driven adventure game formula as means to bring Batman to a new audience, for it was starting to get tiresome and show its age. So even if Telltale Games were the right developers to deliver a Batman adventure game, it might have been too late. Just when I decided to finally take a chance on Batman: The Telltale Series, Telltale Games collapsed. With their entire library of games gone on Steam and GOG, there was nowhere to get them. Most of their catalogue eventually returned, and I picked up BTTS and its sequel (Batman: The Enemy Within – The Telltale Series) soon after. Man, am I ever glad this game came back because it’s simply incredible. What BTTS Did Well
Despite not being an action game, BTTS offers an exciting, engaging story that reimagines the Batman mythology. Telltale Games held no punches in discarding what is canon right from the start, so they could weave a unique narrative that stands out among its many peers in comics, movies, cartoons and video games. The changes the writers made, some of which would likely ruffle some feathers, resulted in a game that is full of surprises, even for long-time Batman fans. To my knowledge, BTTS is the first Batman game that shines the spotlight on both Bruce Wayne and Batman with equal measure. Players are used to being the fearsome Batman, fighting their way out of sticky situations. Playing as Bruce about half the time in BTTS means being exposed and more vulnerable. This can be jarring at first, as there are no Batsuits and gadgets to offer protection. As Bruce, players will need to learn to take verbal jabs and stinging accusations with composure, and retaliate with wit and charm. Since this is a Telltale game, players can also forgo diplomacy and respond like a jerk. As it turns out, juggling dual personas, balancing relationships with the same people as your alter ego (e.g. Lieutenant Gordon, Harvey Dent), and navigating social and political situations using only your guile prove to be highlights of BTTS. I’d argue that in video games, it’s easier to play as Batman than as Bruce Wayne. What BTTS Could Have Done Better
Despite the refreshing take on Batman’s story, BTTS has a slightly uneven start. Right after an exciting introduction, you quickly get thrown into talking about depressing and serious topics like your parents’ deaths, Alfred worrying about you, and politics. Thankfully, the game does recover from this bumpy beginning, and the remainder of the series gets more thrilling and emotionally charged. Still, for a Batman adventure game that had much to prove, it could have used a stronger introduction. BTTS does have its share of cinematic action sequences, which players participate through quick time events. They weren’t particularly thrilling to me as the fight scenes were pretty much scripted. Because I couldn’t anticipate what keys to press, I found the whole process more reactive than proactive, which didn’t make me feel that much like a strategic crimefighter. I would have preferred the game allowing me to direct my own action (e.g. direction keys to dodge, Q for left attack, E for right attack) on the fly within a fight scene of various prescripted possibilities. As an adventure game, BTTS is the ideal platform to highlight Batman’s abilities as a detective. There are a few moments in which Batman can investigate crime scenes to gather clues, and then link appropriate clues together to reconstruct the crime scene. While this is nowhere as easy as finding crime scene hotspots and letting the game solve the entire mystery for you as in the Batman: Arkham series, the detective work in BTTS is still quite effortless. It would have been nice to have the crime scenes requiring more work to solve. What BTTS Did Poorly
There is a Shadows Mode DLC that players can get to play BTTS in black and white, with accent colours on select characters. I found this DLC to be a gimmick because the game’s visuals were not designed to being presented in this manner. Films like Schindler’s List and Sin City, both of which are black and white films with accent colours, were lighted and shot with this form of presentation in mind. BTTS, on the other hand, was designed to be seen in colour, and it doesn’t work as well when it’s in black and white. Furthermore, simply stripping the game’s visuals of its colours and throwing in accent colours on some characters takes away the power of colours in telling a great story. Besides, the villains
(i.e. Harvey Dent, Oswald Cobblepot, and Lady Arkham)
are simply not colourful enough in their designs to warrant having accent colours used on them. The combination of weak contrast of light and shadow, and distracting accent colour use makes the Shadows Mode effort amateurish. Having said that, I found Shadows Mode uninteresting. You also can’t switch from playing the game in colour (Classic Edition) to black and white (Shadows Edition) with a simple press of a key for quick comparison. You’d need to exit your current game and restart it in Shadows Edition, which is absolutely annoying.Final Thoughts
Despite a slightly shaky start, BTTS eventually finds its footing and delivers an exciting Batman game with refreshing, surprising twists. It really delivers in giving a unique and novel Batman gaming experience, in which you get to play as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Because of that, I am surprised to find myself saying that BTTS is the first game that made me feel like the complete Batman. While it may be hard to believe that a non-action Batman game can be engaging, Telltale Games wove a strong narrative that challenges many preconceived notions of the Batman mythology. Although there are a few bumps in its storytelling and gameplay, the overall game is very enjoyable and exciting. Now that it’s back on Steam, I highly recommend all Batman fans to get BTTS to treat themselves to a great adventure game.Bonus: Spoiler-Filled Reflections
Telltale Games really laid it on thick with the parallelism between Bruce/Batman and Harvey Dent, Oswald Cobblepot, and Lady Arkham. All these characters struggled with the darkness within them, as well as with their families. So while the story is engaging and surprising, there wasn’t any subtlety in its delivery. At times I felt it’s almost too much to have three villains to go up against, but the developers juggled the three villains deftly. At one point, you’ll need to decide whether to confront Cobblepot or Dent first. Your decision will have major consequences to how the final episode unfolds, making the game highly replayable.
BATMAN!!!!!!!!!
Telltale, while it existed, created to us many entertaining, interactive movies, like this. If you played any Telltale game before you will know what you expect in this game, but if not, let me summarize to you what you can experience in this one: -lot of text/narration, this is a story oriented game after all -during conversations you always have multiple choices as answers. Your answers have some minor impact on the story. Please be aware, these impacts are not significant. If you plan to replay the game with different answers, then these are not going to lead to different endings or to serious differences. - QTE, quick time events. What does it mean? In different situations you need to press specific buttons and these actions usually need to be done multiple times in a short period of time. Usually used during combats, “platforming”. QTEs in this game are a bit more interesting than in other Telltale games. -point and click content. While investigating areas the gameplay is like playing a point and click game. Conclusion
I bought the game during Summer Sale of 2020 for like 6EUR together with the other Telltale Batman game. What should i say? No regrets! Story: 6/10 Watched already many Batman/Joker movies and will play the game after those? Then the game feels a bit out of context, with a story not fitting with the story of other batman stories. It is still good and enjoyable. Replay value: 1/10 “your decisions influence the story”. Well, that impact is very minimal. You are not going to see a different story if you replay the game, just different characters will have different roles. The game is not worth replaying. Atmosphere: 9/10 nananananana BATMAN! Visuals: 7/10 Telltale gone bankrupt because of some bad decisions, but some also say because they did not upgrade their engine and offered the same style of graphic. However, i think this graphic is still quite good, a bit more cartoony so aging more slowly than “realistic” graphics games. Gameplay mechanics: 7/10 nothing new offered, QTEs while you literally watch a movie, but still enough interactions. Execution is good tho, no bugs. Music/Sound effects: 7/10 quality music/sound effects, suitable for the game. Voice Acting: 8/10 Telltale games have decent voice acting. Batman - The Telltale Stories isn’t different. Game difficulty: 2/10 quick time events not really hard. You might die once or twice sometimes, but that is all.Hey, I am an achievement hunter!
Perfection time: ~8 hours. You don’t need to care about anything, just playing the game. All achievements are awarded for progressing on the story, nothing missable.

Batman - The Telltale Series
When it comes to Batman The Telltale Series my thoughts are very conflicted. Let me run you through why. Most of my positive opinion of this game comes from the game’s story. Batman has obviously been around forever in many forms of media; TV, comics, books, movies, and games. It’s very rare that we come across a brand new Batman story. Hell, even in Batman Arkham Knight the “new villain” they promised was essentially just Red Hood. Batman - The Telltale Series truly creates a brand new Batman story, featuring a new villain, and presenting both the Bruce Wayne and Batman sides of the vigilante’s life in a new light. Additionally, Telltale wasn’t afraid to create versions of classic Batman characters that are very unique to the game. Alfred, Penguin, Harvey Dent, Vicky Vale, Lucius Fox, Jim Gordon, and Catwoman, are all characters that fit that bill in one way or another. I truly applaud the game’s writers for the risks they took in writing these characters, and how well they utilized the characters to create a new Batman story. Having the choice of approaching different situations as either Batman or as Bruce Wayne is an awesome concept, and it’s truly challenging to have both looked upon kindly by the public eye. However, these same interesting decisions are unfortunately the weakest parts of the game. I say that because it honestly feels like none of your decisions matter in this game. For example
Harvey Dent is an important character, and Telltale gives you the opportunity to be extremely helpful and friendly to him. I literally did everything in my power to stay on his good side and be the best friend possible, Hell, I even said no to sex with Catwoman just so his bum ass wouldn’t get hurt. But no matter what you do, no matter what decisions you make in the game, Harvey will eventually become Two-Face. Another example is the Penguin. Regardless of your decisions he will seek to destroy you.
Ultimately, if your decisions don’t matter, or make any real impact on the story, then should this even be a game? I really enjoyed the story that was here, but why pretend that our decisions matter? This game might as well be an eight hour movie, or a five episode TV show, because at the end of the day none of your decisions affect the story in any relevant way, and
only one or two decisions from this game actually effect the next game in the series (and one of the effects is purely cosmetic).
There are also one or two instances of bogus plot armor which were semi-annoying. I’d love to say this is one of the best Telltale games, but it’s not. It’s one of the best original Telltale stories, that’s for sure, but the way in which the story ultimately plays out is far more akin to a movie or TV show than a game. Regardless of my complaints, I still got hooked and beat the game in two sittings. Batman fans like myself will enjoy the story, and might get sucked into the experience just like I did. However, if you really want your choices to mean something, and aren’t just here for the caped crusader you might want to skip out on this one. At the end of the day, this certainly isn’t a must play, but it’s worth the price tag, and Batman fans will enjoy the story, despite the lack of impact decisions have. Recommended
