Hey, survivors! ❄️
Welcome to another development update for Winter Survival. First of all, we’ve been working hard in order to deliver to you some quality stuff that many of you have been eagerly waiting on. Secondly, our minds are still blown away by the amount of feedback we’ve gathered since the release of Winter Survival: Prologue. We’re so thankful for your continuous support - if you still have any ideas regarding the game itself, make sure to leave your answers in the comment section below.
As for today’s devlog, we’d like to focus on active hunting and adaptation systems in the game, and thus we'd like to showcase to you the progress we’ve made so far. As these were some of the most requested features, We can guarantee that you're gonna love this one. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Hunting System ????
First things first – since the release of Winter Survival: Prologue, many of you have been asking about some sort of combat/active hunting system to further enhance your survival experience. We analyzed plentiful comments from our community and right now, we’re ready to kick things off. To extend your ability to fight with the environment a little bit, we’re already working on a spear combat system. The main purpose of a spear is still protection and hunting-related stuff, as well as more of a defensive and tactical approach to it. Also, please keep in mind that it’s still work-in-progress, so what you currently see might be different from the final product.
However, if you think that you're gonna be running & jabbing everything that is moving, well… that’s not the case. In Winter Survival, hunting even a deer might be a challenge. Check the video below to see what we mean by that.
Apart from the melee attack, we’re also preparing an impelling animation as well. Thanks to it, you’ll have a chance to survive a wolf attack. Let us know in the comments what you think.
What is more, we're also working on a wolf mini-game, which will basically allow you to defend yourself with your bare hand. This will take a little health out of you, but in return, you will get another opportunity to escape. Let us know in the comments what you think. Keep in mind that it needs more polishing, and additional work is required.
As you progress through the game and find even more valuable resources, you’ll be able to craft better spears. This will make your life easier, but you’ll still need to carefully analyze whether it's worth using it or not. Check the screenshot below, and let us know what you think about it.
Adaptation System ????
In Early Access, we will implement the adaptation system. Every time you do something related to survival – whether it’s crafting, cooking, chopping trees, exploring, or gathering materials – your character will adapt.
By doing such actions, your character will adapt over time. This will make your fighting to survive a little bit easier.
While your character adapts, you'll be able to unlock new recipes, gain better stats, and even new game content. All of that combined together will highly increase your chances of survival.
