Call of Duty 2
Spielesammlung

Turns out I'm super right and Call of Duty 2 is actually fun. I'm the best, give me money.
Call of Duty 2 takes place during that war in COD:WW2 who's name I can't remember. You play as several characters from three different nations including Private Vasili Koslov of the Russian 13th Guards Rifle Division, Sgt. John Davis of the British 7th Armored as well as Tank Commander David Welsh of the same division. And Cpl. Bill Taylor of the American 2nd Ranger Battalion, Dog Company.
Bet you're super impressed I remembered all those names.
All of these men are unstoppable war gods that push bullets out of their bodies and sew up their own wounds with the sheer force of will, move like sleepy Quake characters, and suck up ammo into their body from the floor to use in their own weapons. Save for David Welsh, who uses his powerful tankomancy to heal his tank from any damages occurred during his missions.
Call of Duty 2 is the first game to introduce regenerating health to the series, which many, many, many people do not approve of, but I feel like it helps the flow of the campaign mode, at least in this case, since you spend less time looking for health and finding yourself in no-win scenarios, especially on higher difficulties. But secretly, its because it gives credence to my belief that all the mute American characters from future COD games are also Bill Taylor, immortal war god and humanoid American cryptid, revealing himself in great times of need to dispense patriotism and bullets wherever he is needed.
Being one of the earlier games in the series, Carl on Duty 2 is much less violent than future games, not relying so much on the series' now trademark shock value and “Controversies”. There's this reverence for the fighting forces on both sides, missions are cut together via documentaries from the Military Channel (Now called the American Heroes Channel, take that how you will) that just take the time to explain to you whats going on and why you are there. Other than, you know, fight the other guy I mean.
Some people have called it propaganda, it might be, I see it more as a kind of respect for the people that went through that. The game is still meant to be fun, and its still exciting to play, but the triumphant trumpet music, mixed with the historical quotes between missions and when you die, it hits different in 2020. The tagline at the time was still “No one fights alone” mind you.
The weapons in Call of Duty 2 were a big sigh of relief after playing it's mumpy, short-bus riding 2017 counterpart. Every weapon fired has this nice oomph to it, with punchy recoil and loud crisp audio. Hitting your target rewards you with puffs of bloody smoke and immediate reactions from whoever just got shot. It looks nice and feels nice to fire guns here, so COD 2 has actually done what other CODs struggle to do, good on them.
I can't think of a mission in this game that I didn't like, even if they have some weak parts in them, they're all generally nice in some way. Like Red Lobster, you know the fish is old, but they cook it so you can't taste it.
From fighting street to street in Stalingrad, hiding behind tanks in Africa, BEING the tank in Africa, to doing D-Day a day earlier than the actual D-Day in France, every mission's environments stick out in some way.
They also managed to be memorable and exciting without relying on in-game cutscenes, instead just going for the whole “War game should have a lot of people” approach and fitting a hell of a lot of people on screen on both sides, sometimes reaching well over a hundred. When you see your allies charging into trenches and returning fire from the other side of an area, it gives this feeling that you're fighting in a war, rather than winning a war on your own.
My only problem is that the Ranger missions rely too much on time-defense objectives, but other than that, I can't really think of a mission I disliked.
The multiplayer is still there...Kind of. COD 2 has been around for so long that splinter-communities have stayed and taken over the game. Zombies is the big server, but I did find a CTF game going on clan-made maps, but all of the TDM games were basically bots only. Its weird now, but its probably someone's comfort game so I don't really know how to talk about it. They seem to be friendly enough.
I don't know how to end this review. Game good, guns nice, shooting fun, online weird.
several 8's out of 10.
Orange used to be known as red-yellow.
Guess what, you're drafted into the curator.

Well you sure won’t believe what I have to say next. Listen for what I speak is truth, but in this odd age of bad television and even worse Star Wars movies, the series known as Call of Duty actually made some of the best games ever conceived!
The children cry, women faint, and I am banned from the village for heresy.
As my long winded introduction might have given away, Call of Duty 2 is the biggest surprise I think I’ve had in gaming since Spec Ops the Line. I bought this game when it was on sale after watching Raycevich’s video on “How Call of Duty Lost Its Identity” expecting what would be a passable, but in the end bland WW2 shooter.. As for years I have flown the flag that the series only ever peaked with the original Modern Warfare… but after playing through the game and beginning a second play-through within the same week I bought it, I can definity say… I was completely wrong. Call of Duty 2 is not only the best WW2 shooters ever made, but also one of the best shooters ever made. Each level is open ended with multiple objectives forcing players to explore the environment for cover and flanking positions. Gun play is ahead of its time, feeling just as good as the games made today. Enemies are really intelligent, constantly pushing trying desperately to get the upper hand in battle. And the atmosphere is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.
The best part of the game is the level design. As stated before, each mini sandbox allows a multitude of ways for players to achieve objectives. There is just enough cover to allow players time to collect their thoughts, but never so much that the game becomes Gears of War stop and pop style shooting galleries. Buildings are tight forcing players to be slow and tactical while entering, but have multiple entry points, allowing for some decision making from the player. And vantage points are always found when taking these buildings giving players a gameplay incentive to fight for them. Whether it be pushing up the cliffs of Normandy, fighting in the deserts of Africa, or partaking in the battle of Stalin Grad, each level provides the most it can with its setting.
The gameplay is just solid enough to be fun, but a few weapons do display some vintage levels of jank. Rifles and machine guns all work to do specific jobs making players have to constantly search environments and switch weapons to continue their attack/hold out their defense. Sometimes weapons (mostly handguns) feel like pea shooters, making players usually decide to switch them out with a bolt action rifle, but besides that, combat is engaging and as stated before the expert level design and intelligent enemies do most of the heavy lifting when discussing player interaction.
Enemies are able to lay down suppressive fire, flank allied soldiers, make strong offensive pushes, and hold down defended areas. The AI helps keep the action up and the player thinking about their next move, as well as keep the immersion from ever breaking. Ometimes their scripting can be a little stupid (like mortar teams refusing to leave their positions when under sniper fire) but 9/10 I found myself surprised at just how well the AI holds up today.
As one can see from the reasons listed above, Call of Duty 2 is one of the greatest games I think I have ever played. Though I have no intention of taking part in the multiplayer (as that quickly opens up the possibility to toxic and annoying communities) I can definitely see myself replaying this game throughout the years, and with me being locked inside due to the CoronaVirus, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
So if Raycevich is reading this review I have two things to say to him… please do an “X” years later on the Bioshock franchise, and thank you for the recommendation.

Starting multiplayer requires a few minutes wait on a black screen but eventually the menu appears. Go away, make tea and return. Key code is already inputted for you. Great classic game with many hours of fun. Most of the sniper servers and gobrats are still alive with a handful of players.

Call of Duty 2 is the pinnacle of the series, and in my humble opinion, the campaign has not been beaten since. The level of immersion at the time was unbeaten in the gaming landscape; soldiers would chatter, the Germans would scream and the weapons sounded great. There are so many moments of pure awe in the campaign, the atmosphere and little details made it feel real. The graphics still hold up well today, which is a testament to the passion placed into this game by Infinity Ward. The variety of different campaigns and war fronts was its greatest strength too, from the Russians, Brits and the American forces.
This game comes from a time where games were made with soul, no micro-transactions and corporate jargon to be seen, where developers poured hard work and love into games they would play themselves. Call of Duty itself has become a shell of what it once was, If you have never played this Call of Duty before, I wholeheartedly give it a recommendation if you are a fan of the series and are interested in some of the older titles.

Campaign includes russia, england, and US side of the war in Germany. There are no Japan missions unlike COD world at war. The missions make you feel like you really are in WW2, especially the US campaign gets intense during the D-Day mission. Any fan of WW2 simulator games would love this version of COD.
Game sounds and sound effects such as enemy noise and bullet shots are the same as COD modern warfare 1, and guns/animations are the same as COD world at war. No issues or bugs, and graphics are surprisingly good for such an old game. The movie during the credits is also worth watching.

The game is still excellent and holds up quite well after all these years. Towards the end of the game, the game starts to get quite a bit samey in my opinion without enough elements to shake up the gameplay.
But the game is still very intense as I remember. Horrific constant bombardments, very loud gunfire, constant battle chatter. The thing I enjoy the most about CoD2 has to be the feeling of distress from all the loud noise and activity around you, and times of brief confusion about the situation around you.
The price point for this game is atrocious though, for such an old game. Do not buy unless it's on a big pricecut. No more than 10 dollars.
