Welcome to the first ever Campfire Checkpoint!
Hi Fellows,
Welcome to the very first Campfire Checkpoint! This is our new place to gather updates, teasers, and interesting tidbits so you do not have to jump between a million channels and socials to figure out what is happening.
We want this space to be flexible and fun. It’s not just updates for everyone; it’s also where we can:
Host community events
Highlight things that might only matter to some players but are still cool
Collect all the little updates so we don’t have to make a slew of tiny posts
Let’s be clear right from the start: nothing in this post or any future Campfire Checkpoint is written in blood. Game development is messy, unpredictable, and full of late-night caffeine-fueled experiments. Things may change, features may evolve, and some of the ideas we share might end up in the “never gonna happen” pile. That’s life.
This is not patch notes. Patch notes will stay as their own thing. Think of the Campfire Checkpoint as a peek behind the curtain, a snapshot of what is happening, a place to share highlights, updates, and a few teasers that we think are worth pointing out. It is meant to show you that we are actively working on the game, listening to feedback, and keeping things moving forward. We hope it will become a reliable way for you to check in on the project. Our intention is to keep these updates regular, so you can consistently see what we are working on and stay connected with the process. That said, we want to set expectations from the very first post. Length and content may vary between Checkpoints, and especially in the near future, it may feel like there is very little to show.
The reason for this is simple: we are still fine-tuning the next season and working on very early, rough concepts. Because these ideas are in the early stages, there may not be much tangible to share yet. Patch notes and Campfire Checkpoints may feel lighter than usual, but this is part of the process. As development progresses, we will be able to share more concrete updates and exciting details.
So grab a snack, maybe a mug of something warm, and settle in. Welcome to the Campfire Checkpoint.
First things first: We have started a new Content Creator Program
This program comes with perks and opportunities for creators to get involved, share their work, and connect with the community in meaningful ways.
If you are interested in joining, you can apply here: Creator Program Application.
Even if you are not a creator, this program will bring more exciting content and community highlights your way. We are looking forward to seeing what people make and sharing some of the best creations in future Campfire Checkpoints!
UPCOMING: Axel and Hamish Video
Second things second… well, you get the point by now.
Soon, we will be releasing a new video where Hamish sits down with Axel to talk about the game and our plans moving forward. The video is meant to highlight our intentions behind certain decisions and bring a little extra clarity on some points. I wish we could give you more concrete specifics right here, but for now you will have to wait and then watch the video or check out the TLDR on Steam once it is released.
Sylvie "Yummification"
Sylvie is getting some yummy new VFX updates in the future, and we’ve got the go-ahead to share a little sneak peek. There are several changes in the screenshot below. See if you can spot them all!
Check it out below:

We know many of you are hoping for balance changes for Sylvie and we want you to know that we hear you and are aware that she is currently severely underperforming compared to Vigour and Aeona. Right now, those two can add a lot of total health to players, Aeona being the biggest culprit. Vigour does this with his Shields and Aeona with her Stagger ability, which helps prevent one-shots and makes them very strong. Sylvie is mechanically different and her toolkit does not allow her to provide that same level of protection and playstyle.
The buffs we applied to Sylvie and Vigour were band-aid solutions to help bring them a little closer to Aeona's effectiveness. They are not the final answer nor how we intend to keep them. In Early Access Season 3, no healer is intended to function exactly the way they do today.
To bring Sylvie fully in line with Vigour and Aeona it would require fundamentally redesigning her, which we want to avoid in order to keep her identity intact, which is why she has fallen so far behind as of now.
Server Issues Communication
We have added a new error message on the main screen that will appear whenever we experience an unexpected server outage. This is meant to help keep you informed and make it clear when such issues are happening.
We also want to take a moment to thank everyone for being patient during the last server outage. Your understanding means a lot to us.
Queues and Servers
To avoid getting too technical, we want to share that a lot of important work is currently happening behind the scenes with server architecture and infrastructure. This is a major focus for the backend team right now and plays a big role in why you have not yet seen larger changes to the queue system.
Up until now, the way queues have functioned has placed real limitations on what we can safely change or improve. Because of that, our priority has been to strengthen and modernize the underlying systems first. This type of work is not always visible from the outside, but it is essential if we want to make meaningful improvements later on.
Since this work happens under the hood, it is not something that naturally shows up in patch notes. Campfire Checkpoint gives us a place to share these slightly more unsexy but very important parts of development, so you can understand what is happening even when changes are not immediately noticeable in-game.
We want you to know that queue improvements are absolutely something we care about and are discussing ad nauseam internally. The infrastructure work we are doing now is specifically meant to make those improvements possible. As this foundation becomes stronger, it will open the door for more impactful updates that make the overall experience smoother and more enjoyable for everyone.
We will share more about these improvements at a later time as the work progresses, so you can see how the pieces come together and what to expect in the future.
