AN EMPIRE AT WAR

Recent happenings have changed this, however; a conflict is brewing at the heart of this Empire, their religious doctrine the very core of the issue. [/p][p][/p][p][/img][/p][p]The Empire is in the midst of a religious civil war in which Thélème is heavily involved. Though the nation has followed their religion for centuries, a faction calling for reform has emerged advocating for equality for men before the light, whether they wield magic or not. [/p][p][/p][p]This call for equality is not only supported by the people, but also by a large portion of the non-magic-wielding nobility who are seeking to regain their lost power against the Thélème clergy in the political sphere. [/p][p][/p]SUBFACTIONS
[p][/img][/p][p]The subfactions warring within the nation are split in two: one is named the Carminists, supporters of the reforms, the other the Originalists Matheists, who follow the original teachings transmitted by Thélème. [/p][p] [/p][p]The Carminists wish for the equality of all before the Enlightened, regardless if they’re capable of using magic or not. With the support of those who view the Matheist hierarchy in a negative light, many of its members come from old aristocracy who were deprived of their ranks and the privileges that come with it. [/p][p][/p][p]The Originalists Matheists want to continue down the nation’s current path: that is, adherence to the original teachings and placing value on those capable of using light magic. Politically close to Thélème, they have the religious nation throwing the full weight of their support behind them. [/p][p][/p]RAVAGED LANDS

Yet despite losing the Free Cities and the north of the Congregation, places which were liberated some time ago, their influence remains strong there. Constant battling has ravaged the lands, skirmishes an all-too common sight on inhospitable parts of the Empire as the war endures. [/p][p][/p][p]Hopelessly divided, their border regions have served as a battleground for Thélème and the Bridge Alliance for decades – it's also within these border regions, not far from the battlefields scattered across the land, that the malichor first appeared.
