J's body comes equipped with multiple rocket launchers, giving his prey almost no chance of escape. When designing J, we envisioned a bounty hunter with an aggressive edge, so we gave his ship a menacing look, reflecting his dangerous, battle-hardened nature.
We took a similar approach when designing the other bounty hunters you’ll face throughout the game. Their sole mission is to kill their targets because there’s no “capture alive” option on Neterun. Bounty hunters use their earnings to upgrade their gear, and many of them are ex-convicts, guilty of violent crimes.
We wanted their bodies to reflect this ruthless mindset. The bounty hunters roam freely throughout the Imperial colonies of Neterun, hiding in the shadows before attacking their targets as a group. Bounty hunters are still raiders, and they often use these hunting parties to settle personal grudges or simply to prove who’s the strongest.
While they may not all have J’s rocket launchers or his recovery abilities, they are still a serious threat to any raider. Whether you’re heading into a dark, dangerous corner or trying to assist another raider, you may suddenly find yourself ambushed by a pack of bounty hunters, ready to tear you apart and scatter your brainwaves across the cosmic void. Yours and those of their rivals.
That concludes the first dev diary for September. We can’t wait to share more with you in the next one. Thanks for following along, and we hope you stick with us on this journey.
Farewell, raiders!
